On Yelp, we had found Le Palais de Raja Maharaja and it was one of the best decisions I made in France. Actually, I believe that it is one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to in my life. If you don't speak French, they are very accommodating. When we walked in the restaurant, we were greeted and sat right away. The host and the owner was very friendly and inviting. He made some great recommendations on the menu. For a free starter, we were offered some papadum with some nice chutneys. It was all very tasty and fresh. We ended up ordering some vegetable samosas, butter chicken, and a lentil chicken soup. The samosas were fresh and crispy with nice flavors! Be careful, these things come out hot. The butter chicken did not have overcooked chicken which is a huge plus! It was savory, rich, and creamy. Sometimes, excess oil is a problem in butter chicken. But, not here! This dish was great. I have no complaints about the lentil soup, but it is pretty standard. Although it was quite good, it definitely wasn't the star of the meal. To end the night, we ordered halva dessert. It is a very sweet, dense confection dessert. It was absolutely delicious and will fulfill any sweet tooth. If you are looking to take a break from all of the French food in France, this would be a great option. Especially if you are staying at a nearby hotel.

You can tell it is made fresh, and it has a family-run atmosphere. There is an older gentleman that is a delight and sits down and plays the sitar during interludes. Everyone is very nice, and I'm pretty sure everyone speaks English if you need it. I can confirm the older gentleman that is always present definitely does. Admittedly, it is a little pricey compared to other Indian food I have tried (about 55-60 euros for 3 people), however the food is definitely worth that price. The chicken tandori was fresh, well spiced, and cooked to perfection. The spices, in general added distinct and delicious flavor to the food, without ovewhelming the palate and did not make them too hot/ spicy. Examples of excellent vegetable selections include all the classics (dal, gobi, and the spinach-cheese plate that is different and better than any other I've every tried). I'm sure you could ask for the plates to be prepared hotter, but I never do- I feel they know what they are doing in the kitchen and do not want to deviate. The nan (regular) is light and fluffy and baked on the spot. The samosas are better than average, especially the vegetable samosas, but I think the real prizes of the establishment is in their main plates. Highly recommend it if you are in the mood for Indian food- I have convinced people from the right bank to make the trip down, they all leave highly impressed and agree this Indian food is the jam!

Superb Indian food in the Gaîté area near Montparnasse…read more I was craving the flavors of my homeland tonight, and convinced the family to stop by after a memorable Bateaux Mouche River cruise on the Seine. We got to Aasman a little after 10 pm, but they're open till 11:30 so they seated us without a fuss (another family came half an hour after us!). Our teen, who is learning French, enjoyed seeing the Indian dishes she was familiar with described in French! We made her order, and between her French and my Hindi, we managed spectacularly! We started off with lassis (mango for the kids, sweet for the missus and I), followed by appetizers - Chicken Tikka and Onion Bhajiya, which were served with delicious chutneys and pickle. For entrées, we ordered butter chicken (served with basmati rice), and a lamb tikka plate - chunks of lamb pieces with basmati rice, palak (puréed spinach), and the most delicious baingan (eggplant) bharta I've ever had. Their baingan bharta was so good, we ordered another full plate of it a la carte! The other dishes were enjoyed as well, all four of us soaking up every last morsel with our butter naans and basmati rice! We were so full that we decided to order one small dessert and share it. The server recommended a warm halwa with cold kulfi, which was an excellent choice! As I polished off the last few bites of the dessert, I could not help but think that it was the perfect ending to a memorable meal!

It was 3/4 full of Locals at 8:30pm. Restaurant kitchens start to close in Paris around that time. The staff was very nice. I spoke with them in Hindi. The baingan bhartha eggplant was very good. 16€ for a chicken tikka thali. The other option was a lamb tikka thali, or a la carte off the main menu. Naan is 4€, which is kind of pricey but also normal in major cities. I guess it's tourist district prices.
