*Avoid Core CrossFit / Fit PHX* Phoenix has ample fitness offerings that are better. Trialed gym for 1 week, then committed to a membership. It took Coach Fredo over 1 month before he said that I could no longer deviate from his prescribed warm-up routines. I was surprised because I'd tweaked each warm-up routine since my 1st class and I wasn't sure why this wasn't addressed sooner. Notably, there was a distinct lack of empathy, as I'm well attuned to my body and make daily adjustments based on a variety of factors. Had this been addressed sooner, I wouldn't have committed to a membership. Two other aspects made me feel uncomfortable at Core: 1) A Latino woman who attends the morning sessions made me feel unwelcome when she asserted ownership over a squat stand...her and her friend stated that that was "her squat stand," forcing me to move after I had already set-up my barbell. In all my travels, I've never encountered such rude and territorial gym members...not very welcoming for my 2nd day. 2) Coach Fredo snapped at me during a workout because I didn't add weight between one of my power clean sets...very unprofessional. I've since canceled and the owner, Kim Flores, has been unsympathetic with how the behaviors of her coach and members have made me feel uncomfortable. What's worse, is that she's forcing me to pay for months that I'm no longer using. read more

I've always just worked out at a corporate-owned gym. In joining Core Crossfit I discovered a real sense of community. This isn't one of those intensely competitive and mean-spirited Crossfit gym scenarios you hear about - members are sweet, supportive and the gym does a great job of activating and building their community with events. The trainers here have pushed me to accomplish things I never thought I could do. One of the best places to keep you motivated! The trainers for sure know what they are doing from being so welcoming and ensuring that your form is correct so you don't hurt yourself. Pleasant Surprise I have to admit going to the gym can be intimidating . I never know exactly what to do and probably stop in the middle of what would be considered a "full" workout. At CrossFit gym you will never have that problem. The staff makes a program for you. The trainers at CrossFit want to see you succeed and they truly care about your health and nutritional needs. The philosphy and attitude at CrossFit is very motivating which helps you get through your workout. A very unique box! Clean, retrofitted old German mission church with a lot of charm. The coach was welcoming and kept an eye on us. The space was a little small but we made it all work. The regular athletes were friendly and willing to share the equipment. For an East Coaster, the lack of air conditioning was a bit warm but once I got into it I forgot all about it. The programs there are really good too, with a wide variety of different programs for different ages and ability. If you're out of town and staying nearby, drop into Core CrossFit. Great place to workout. I was in town for a conference at the convention center. I chose this gym because it was a true Crossfit Affiliate gym. I was not disappointed. Great programming, included a good warm-up, strength work and conditioning WOD. Coaching was spot on, focused on technique. Regulars were very friendly and helpful, made me feel at home! Liked it so much I went back the next day. Varied their workouts so again good warm-up, skill work on a variety of things (all of which I need work on) and then a tough 5 round WOD. I would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone looking to drop in or for a gym to call home. $15 for drop in, high tech with their iPad credit card swipe system. Oh, and it's in an old church, converted for Crossfit complete with Olympic lifting platforms in the basement. read more

I love this place. The first time I came in I was super nervous, and totally on the fence. I was so freaked out about what I was getting myself into, but Tom helped me chill out and my assessment went pretty ok. And then I started going to classes. Great for visiting CFers! :) The staff is attentive/friendly and the members are also welcoming. The gym is clean and well-organized with more equipment than you'd find in a typical Olympic gym (there were also treadmills). They make their own workouts and focus on strength for the normal ones; at their free 9am Saturday classes they adjust the workout to be more accessible for those who don't do CF regularly. If you buy a shirt (for $25), you can drop in multiple times. That was a little pricey to me since I could only go twice, but I wanted a shirt anyway. :) Thanks for the great gym-away-from-gym workouts guys! read more

Visiting any box as a drop in from out of town should always be a fun, exciting, challenging experience and this is exactly the type of atmosphere Core CrossFit has to offer. The community here is beyond welcoming and the coaches and staff are full of encouragement and aren't afraid of stepping in to help you improve/correct your form during the warmup, strength, and WOD during your workout. I would absolutely recommend visiting this box to become a member or visit as a drop in! I started a program at this club almost a year and a half ago and I feel amazing! I was hesitant on joining for about a year and then I pulled the trigger and I'm really glad I did. At 51 years of age, I am feeling muscles in my body that I haven't felt in almost 25 years. It is unbelievable how my body feels during the week with just 2 1/2 concentrated hours of classes. My trainer Nate is very patient, fun to be around, and extremely talented at his profession. I own a business around the corner and it's nice to support small, downtown, family-owned organizations! I've never done CrossFit in my life, and thanks to Core, I am now obsessed. Everyone that works there is a BAMF. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable, friendly and patient. It surely is an intimidating thing at fist sight - everyone is in beast mode throwing massive weights around like teeny tiny babies. But the whole staff makes you feel immediately welcome and unafraid. Prior to Core, my strength was equivalent to that of a small child. But in just 2.5 months I'm faster, leaner and stronger. I can now confidently fight children. I know there's a lot of incorrect lifting and shitty "trainers" out there, but Core does not fall into that category whatsoever. Megan will roundhouse kick you if you deadlift incorrectly. Santana will answer any questions you have with great accuracy and swiftness whilst providing killer workout music. Preston, who is in fact the human version of Gumby, teaches core, stretch, mobility and HIIT classes that will make you sweat out of your eye sockets. Tupac is straight-up the nicest person in the history of people and Kristi makes you feel like you can tell her your deepest secrets during the brief 10 seconds it takes to sign in for class. I could say a lot more, but like usual, I'm waxing poetic for absolutely no reason. I've never been to any other CrossFit gyms around town, so I don't really have a slew of opinions to give. But when something clicks, there's really no need to go elsewhere. A concept my ex-boyfriend never seemed to grasp. read more

I started working out with Core Cross Fit five months ago. In that five months I have dropped 15LBs and 2 sizes. Prior to Core Cross Fit I had a personal trainer for five years - with little to no results. This is far less expensive than a personal trainer and much better results. A no brainer. Of all the gyms I have been a member, this is by far my favorite. The coaches are knowledgeable, friendly, fun. They took a genuine interest in my fitness level when I started as well as my limitations and are very attentive to provide specific alternative exercises to reach my goals is a safe progression. Besides the coaches, the other members make this feel like a bunch of friends gathering rather than random people showing up for a class. The combination of programing, coaching excellence and community make this a top recommendation from me.
