I arrived at Core Performance (CP) Irvine location with a severe medical injury and was greeted by an attentive warm group at the front desk who I came to know as Amanda and Nikki. Both always engage whoever enters the building with a smile, genuine laughter and seem to know everyone by name. They are multi taskers managing calendars for all PT Therapist, coordinating schedules, treatments, finance, insurance and answering frequent questions as the phone rings incessantly. My care was administered by Dr. Matt (Matthew Shihab PT, DPT) who reviewed my many images and assessments (MRI, Xray, Ultrasound, Vascular, Nerve and Muscle) and with ease explained in very simple details the severity of the injury and gave me a plan to get me back to a normal pain free life. During my visits I found Dr. Matt to be knowledgeable about anatomy (muscles, nerves, bones), how they connect and how the body moves. He is patient-focused, although the facility is an open format he is attentive to the individual while knowing what's going on in the room. He maintains a volume of privacy in discussions with each individual although someone is on the table next to you. I remember one day I came in for my appointment in a lot of pain, and fighting back tears because I did not want to be there. Dr. Matt came over for my session and asked how I was doing and he noticed my tone did not align with my words. He stopped, leaned in and asked again what was wrong, how's the injured area, did someone hear do something. I finally responded it's not anyone I just don't want to be here, I'm tired of being in pain. He took the additional time to talk to me one-on-one and said I'm glad you chose to come in today that was the hardest part and continued to explain that the road to recovery can be long and everyone heals at a different rate even if it's the same type of injury. He gave me his assurance that he and the Core Performance team were here for me as long as I need them. Then he took the extra time to gently stretch and massage the injured nerves and muscles to relive the pain. I occasionally remind him that on that day he put on his psychiatrist hat and talked me off the ledge of quitting by helping me to realize I was not in this by myself. I've been treated on occasion by a dedicated team of Physical Therapists to include Alex and Kelly and both provided high-quality, patient centered, excellent care. There is an army of aides available to support the Physical Therapists of whom I've had the pleasure of being cared for by Samantha, Cole, Janela, Michaela and Caitylyn who engage the patients with fun exercises and stretches (just kidding about the exercises being fun). They are truly a committed team many are continuing their education in the medical field as a pathway to enhanced patient care, career advancement and personal fulfillment. Occasionally I get to work with Moon and Herman who might start my stretches or cover for someone if they're engaged with another patient. Had severe discomfort on my neck and lower back that prevented me from doing my regular calisthenics routine. This was really hard to diagnose, as there was no particular event or evident part of my body that was causing the pain. I had seen several doctors before trying with Dr. Mathew without much of a permanent solution. Dr. Mathew did a really good job at diagnosing, giving care recommendations including modifying my sleeping position, and putting together a recovery plan. The whole team was amazing at helping my recovery over several months. During my recovery I had sessions with several of their PTs (Dr. Mathew, Dr. Kelly, Dr. Taylor), and all of them were outstanding in their own way, patient, resourceful, and helpful. Amanda at the front-desk was always super helpful, professional, and friendly. She always found a way to accommodate my constrained schedule. I am especially grateful to the knowledgeable and amazing assistants in the practice, Sam, Kenny , and Rose - they are the ones who make a difference day to day, and they do truly care. I'm so happy my doctor recommended Core Performance! I had been struggling for almost a year with frozen shoulder, and also pain in my knees that kept me from hiking, biking, and doing many daily activities without pain. Matthew Shihab did wonders on getting me back to exercising again, and I now feel like I can live life without the worry of pain coming back or re injuring. He worked hard on loosening my shoulder and knees, and gave me exercises to strengthen the areas so that I could continue to experience a pain free life after PT. I appreciated his tips on the little things too, like how to do my exercises while traveling, where to buy good supportive shoes, how to listen to my body to avoid further injury, how to move with good body mechanics and how to progress my exercises to strengthen further. There is so much that could be said about Dr Matthew Shihab and the entire staff of Core Performance in Irvine. Matthew directs each staff member and patient with a single set of guiding principles that respects and encourages all who are lucky enough to cross his path. The Irvine staff at Core Performance Physical Therapy are absolutely on top of their game. Everybody is friendly, professional, and on top of their jobs. Dr.Taylor Sillekens has helped me figure out what was wrong with my left knee following a work injury and has come up with a treatment plan that has led to an incredible amount of improvement. As Physical Therapists they listen to my concerns and take that into account when assigning exercises and providing treatment. The Aides, Elizabeth and Fabian are incredibly helpful at making sure I am doing my exercises correctly and helping me to get the most benefit out of the exercises to help my knee recover. I have been going to Core Performance for about 15 Weeks and have seen major improvement thanks to the hard work and guidance of Dr. Sillekens and the Aides Elizabeth and Fabian. I was walking around with a stiff knee and a limp when I first came to Core Performance, and honestly wasn't feeling very optimistic about being able to walk normally again. It has been close to a year since my injury, and two surgeries later, but I am finally close to being able to walk and return to my active lifestyle! I first started going to core in 2018 for a UCL strain and it was by far the best decision I made during my recovery process. The people are excellent, friendly, and professional. And the therapy I received was top notch. The best thing about core is that they heal not only the body but the mind. The people I primarily worked with, Dom and Adam, got me through some rough patches during my recovery process. I honestly don't think I would have made it through if it wasn't for them. Taylor and the whole team were awesome and very welcoming. I was convinced that I needed surgery and the I was going to PT to check the box before getting getting cut on. In just a few visits I had considerable improvement and reduction in ankle pain. A custom plan was truly tailored for me and a home plan was also designed. Taylor is an exceptional PT. He helped me heal my hamstring from a hamstring tear through his professional exercises and pushed me to become better every time I stepped into the arena.
