I was referred to Pete by my functional medicine doctor back when I was a professional golfer dealing with a mysterious leg injury. He helped me recover completely, and I've been seeing him ever since for pretty much everything. Pete takes a whole person approach which is what makes him so different. I came to IPA Physio about 3 years ago on a reference from a friend. I worked with Dr. Peter Rumford at that time for once a week for approximately 4-5 months. I appreciated the testing to specifically address my issues and the exercises to remediate that I did in office on each visit. However, the difference for me were the practical functional new ways he practiced with me that I could do the things I regularly needed to do, while protecting and supporting my weak lower back. Since my insurance was not helping, I paid out of pocket. I can honestly say that was the best investment to my future health than any therapeutic PT I had done prior to that time. read more

Jessica has been my physical therapist for a couple years now and she always delivers great work! She's able to get to the source of my pain and issues, and point out things I had noticed before as well. In a recent visit, she noted that I was literally lopsided and my right shoulder was way lower than my left shoulder. It's not something you pay attention to when you look in the mirror, or what a normal bystander would notice but she caught that right away! Jessica also gives great stretch homework to follow up on after the visit so you can work on things even after the appointment. When our orthopedist recommended IPA Physio for our daughter's rehab I called and talked to the office staff about the options available. They were very courteous and helpful. Not long after that conversation, Kevin called us and walked us through how they would evaluate and treat our daughter's injury. His philosophy of a wholistic approach to not only heal the injury but teach our daughter about her injury, how to rehab properly, and most importantly how to develop a regiment that she can take with her for the rest of her life to avoid further issues, is exactly what we were looking for. Our daughter had a Pars defect (stress fracture to two vertebrae). This is a very common injury caused by repetitive loading and hyperextension of the lower back. Very common for high level athletes. She played through pain for almost a year until the back spasmed to a point that she couldn't participate in soccer. This was a very stressful time for her as she is a committed D1 soccer player that needed a "return to sport" plan that would get her back stronger and better than before the injury. I cannot say enough about Kevin Hartsough and his commitment to helping get our daughter back to soccer. After a structured regiment of PT with Kevin and IPA she is playing full speed and reporting that she feels better than ever. Having three kids that all play high level sports in high school and college, I have seen a lot of PT rehab. Before going to IPA Physio we always went to an in network facility and paid a small copay for the treatments. This was our first experience in non-insurance based treatment. Does paying out of pocket make that much of a difference over in network insurance based facilities? The answer is a resounding "yes." The main difference is that with IPA Physio we got a full hour of one-on-one treatment by Kevin. With insurance based treatment, typically there is only a small interaction between the physical therapist and the patient before the assistant takes over to conduct the exercises and treatments. If you are looking for a simple treatment plan and don't feel like you want that added level of connection directly to the physical therapist then maybe insurance-based is enough for you or your young athlete. But if you want the best treatment and education on how to build a routine for future injury prevention and the quickest path to safely return to sport, then IPA Physio is a "no brainer." read more

Both my husband and I have seen Pete Rumford at IPA for years and he is whip smart and excellent at his job. Thankfully, I only deal with a random tweak or knot, but every time I've been for therapy, he has great insight that I've never even considered in regards to stretches and exercises that relieve the discomfort. Pete makes you feel comfortable, generous with his knowledge, and he's creative in offering solutions, which is generally lacking in healthcare. My husband struggles with more chronic pain and injury, and comes home from a Pete appointment, just amazed at his expertise and treatment and most importantly, encouraged. 2 weeks ago, Kevin did a great job diagnosing the causes of my knee problems. Earlier in the summer, I started practicing Krav Maga. Within weeks, I was developing knee problems that kept getting worse. It came to a point that walking up hill was painful and my afternoon runs were directly impacted. I came into the clinic with a simple thought that a massage around the tissue would clear the problem. However, Kevin took a thorough look at my movements and positioning. As he had me walk around the studio, he noticed that I wore Orthotics and that my flat feet was the contributing factor. He then questioned whether I was wearing my orthotics during my exercises. When I told him no, he figured that was the root cause. He was absolutely correct as my knee problems immediately went away. Furthermore, he corrected me on some of my hip exercises that I undergo to prevent tendinosis. Not only did he correct me on these exercises, he applied pressure on my knees so that the soreness would go away. When I asked him what distinguishes his clinic from other physical therapists, he noted that the company focuses less on insurance bureaucracy and more on patient experience. It should be noted that Peter treated my tendinosis surrounding my knees in 2019. Since then, the problems never came back as I took his recommendations to heart. I recommend this clinic over any other physical therapist because you will get focused attention on your focused problem. They are my new choice for physical treatment. read more

Dr. Spencer Lee at IPA changed my life! I have suffered from hip pain for several years that was debilitating my lifestyle. I had been to two physical therapists prior with no improvement. After an MRI, the doctors recommended surgery. I was about to schedule surgery, until I was recommended to Spencer. When I first heard the cost per session, I was a little hesitant to make my initial appointment. But my chronic pain had gotten to the point where I was desperate for any kind of treatment that might somehow get me back to the health, active and happy life I used to lead. In a way, I'm sort of glad I had gotten to that point of despair because I otherwise might not have made that leap of faith and started going to IPA Physio. I understood that they were different from other typical PT offices in that you got to work 1-on-1 with the PT for the entire hour, but I wasn't sure what to expect otherwise. Well, almost immediately into the first session I saw that these guys, in my case specifically Dr. Spencer Lee, were way different than what I had been used to. He examined my posture and explained that I had a tendency to keep my weight on my heels, and that my upper body was leaning or "swaying" back. This is definitely something that can cause dysfunction and pain in the body. You might say it's typical for PTs to address posture but no PT office I had ever been to had explained this to me and that's when I started believing that these guys were the real deal. I knew that based on that observation he made about my posture that he approached the problem of pain differently than most PTs. After that first session I was pretty confident that they would be able to find the root cause of my pain and systematically work towards helping me create permanent physical changes, rather than "band-aid" solutions that were temporary. I had a lot of problems with my neck muscles and cervical (neck) spine and Spencer frequently did manual adjustments and manipulations during the sessions which I noticed made me feel better just a few weeks in. Now, again, other practitioners do these kind of adjustments but I have not come across anybody who had both the knowledge and physical skill to understand exactly what area needed to be manipulated and why. He did a lot of work on my C1 vertebrate, which was shifted towards one side. That is a very specialized kind of treatment that again, I'm sure other experts may do, but I don't think its very common. After about 3-4 months of weekly treatment I was feeling way better. I could exercise again lightly, whereas before I started treatment I could barely walk around the block a few times. With some other lifestyle changes along the way, I am now exercising pretty much as hard as I want, and my quality of life has improved so much. And just as a human being and friend Spencer is really a great guy. I enjoy getting to catch up with him every time I come into the office. He is invested in the well-being of his patients and cares a lot about improving their lives. read more

Inexpressible thankfulness for this clinic... hey PT's out there check this out!! -after 1st visit I could breathe better, kick my right foot as high as my left (they didn't even touch my leg/hip ) -after 3rd visit I could sleep deeply on my right without this deep huge stretch along my entire back (have NOT been able to more than 5 years) -had a concussion hitting the back of my head on concrete, weeklong headache fixed in ONE session -2 wks of vertigo started after the headache from the concussion, they fixed this in ONE session, mobilizing my skull and scalp (amazingggggg) -in the beginning my right vocal cords were hoarse compared to my left, now they are even in strength and sound (SO COOL) -head to toe nerve problems (had for more than 10 years) are FINALLY getting fixed I'm also a DPT, been working on myself for years, stretch/exercise/run/travel regularly, snowboard 20yrs, went to a couple PT's, an akinesiologist, who were all only able to fix my problems temporarily, was told by other PT's that I was FAKING all my head to toe nerve problems... I met Greg and his therapists at a conference last October, took all these courses from them and was just mind blown! My physical therapy journey started in April 2022 due to multiple injuries that occurred around the same time. I had never been injured and was clueless about healing & recovery techniques, so physical therapy was totally new to me. For the next 9+ months, I worked with a total of 4 separate physical therapists and saw a multitude of doctors in the pursuit of recovery. While most of my injuries were a struggle but did improve very slowly, an issue I was having with extreme tightness down the legs was proving to be un-diagnosable, and all specialists I was seeing were essentially playing guessing games in the pursuit of getting me better. Eventually my legs grew significantly worse, and doctors went so far as sending me for a brain scan and running dozens of blood tests to try to determine the source of my problem. Luckily all of my tests came back clear, but I was still fairly clueless as to the source of my leg problem. I heard about IPA Physio via my wife, and booked an appointment trying not to get my hopes up about the result. Upon meeting my IPA PT Spencer for the first time, I was immediately put at ease with his level of knowledge and the detailed way in which he treated me and explained the likely source of my issue. Just over 2 months later, I am now well on the road to recovery. The care and professionalism I have received from Spencer is second-to-none, and the results speak for themselves. Despite my problem being nearly a year old now, the progress I am seeing is more rapid than the progress I made with traditional PTs when the problem was new. Highly recommend --I am currently having a great experience with IPA. I have had chronic varying issues with my hands and wrists for over 9 months that have not been resolved or given much hope or any real answers. I have had x-rays and MRIs that showed no issues. I was sent to occupational therapy, which was minimally helpful but had no real outcomes and left my therapist and my primary care doctor scratching their heads. As a hail mary, I took the advice of my sister and brother-in-law, who have had incredible experiences at IPA (my sister avoided having major back surgery from her time with IPA therapies), and I started with Kevin a couple of weeks ago. From my first session, I felt an immediate change in my condition and was given hope for the first time in months. Rather than focusing on my hands themselves, he wondered if it had more to do with tightness in my forearms, and after a very intense deep tissue working of my forearms, I was in awe of the difference. I have been a patient at IPA for 9 months. I have been a PT patient for over 10 years, for various injuries and rehab post spine surgery. Let me tell you the IPA philosophy and approach is the only way to go. Standard PT treats the part, not the whole system. IPA treats the whole system, the whole person. Because it is ALL connected. How is your stress level? Your sleep? Your diet? AND.. unlike regular PT, they don't put pressure on you to perform exercises and hit goals like a trained monkey. You go at your pace, your comfort level. It is about continuous progress, not perfection. If something doesn't feel right, there is no push thru mentality, it's let's back off that approach and attack from a different angle. Unlike most PT factories, where you are 1 in room of 20 tables, getting 15 minutes with the therapist. At IPA you get a full 1:1 60 minute session. I can't say enough good things about IPA physio and Ryan and Pete. I came to IPA desperate for some relief. After an urgent care visit and a weeks dose of prednisone I needed some help and guidance. Pete and I knew one another from our time in SF and we had a mutual friend who said, "you are so close to Pete's office go to IPA!" I called on a Monday morning at 9am and was being seen by 11am. I got to see Ryan Johnson and he was so careful and thoughtful about trying to figure out what my body was doing and why it was feeling the way it felt. He told me I should get an MRI so we had a baseline of what was going on. I started going twice a week while simultaneously seeing an Orthopedic surgeon to get my MRI. The MRI showed I had a herniated disc pressing on a nerve. Based on all my symptoms and this diagnosis the Orthopedic surgeon suggested I have back surgery or I might have a lifelong limp. Even though with Ryan I was improving everyday. Ryan and Pete immediately got in touch with a second opinion surgeon and I was able to see them the following week -he did not recommend surgery. 3 months later I have zero symptoms and I just completed my last session with Ryan. In a situation that felt extremely despairing and unclear IPA Physio and, Ryan specifically, helped me know what my next steps should be and made me feel supported and advocated for. I have been suffering from chronic sciatica and lower back pain for past 6 years and recently had a severe flare up which left me unable to walk and unable to work. For the past 6 years, I have tried everything- physical therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic care, and oriental medicine but was still struggling with sciatica and lower back pain. This last flare up led me to IPA Physio-OC where I met Dr. Pete and Dr. Kat. And they have changed my life. On the very first visit with Dr. Pete, I walked out of the session being able to walk more balanced and with less pain. Over the course of the last year or two, I have been dealing with a variety of physical problems related to muscle tension, nerve pain and more. It's been really frustrating trying to get a handle on what's been going on and get straight answers. Kat is amazing! After having multiple kids/pregnancies my abs were non-existent and my lower back was compensating for posture to the extent that my back was often sore from a compressed spine. Started going to IPA physio a few months ago to address shoulder issues stemming from a surgery over 20 years ago. I had almost given up on living pain free and having a full range of motion. IPA Physio is incredible! As I was training for a marathon, I worked with the team to ensure my body was in tip top shape. They helped me with preparation, stretching, and injury prevention. Without IPA Physio, I'm not sure I would have been able to accomplish my lifelong goal of running a marathon! I was an avid weightlifter who stopped exercising due to chronic lower back pain.
