I've probably taken close to 100 classes at Core Burn between the Greenwich Village and Upper East Side locations, and I can't say enough great things about both studios. The instructors are consistently excellent, each brings great energy and really knows how to challenge you. The classes can be as easy or as hard as you make them, but over time I've found them increasingly effective as I've learned how to properly engage my muscles. I highly recommend Jennifer's classes, they are the most challenging! The Upper East Side studio has a few nice amenities in the bathroom and is always a comfortable space. If I had to mention one minor downside, it's just that the waiting area is a bit small and there is no changing room. This is so minor, I wouldn't let that impact the rating. Overall, both locations are fantastic, and I highly recommend Core Burn to anyone looking for a great Pilates studio! read more

Great classes! Have had group classes with Jennifer and Talissa. I took up pilates to help my cycling. I wanted to strengthen my legs and core, while improving my flexibility. Rode my first 100 mile course today and feel great. The Pilates classes at E 79th have really helped and been a great addition to my training program. read more

THE WORST PILATES CLASS EVER - AVOID JENNIFER BECKER! I was only two minutes late, and the instructor, Jennifer Becker was awful, rude, and condescending from the moment I walked in. Instead of a simple acknowledgment, she practically yelled, "Have you ever taken Pilates before? You have two minutes to get into the studio. I'm letting you in, but you're late." The attitude was completely unnecessary and set the tone for the rest of the miserable class. Then, she went into my jacket without my permission (!) to turn off my alarm--something no one else could even hear. Who does that?! Later, my arm slipped into a reformer well, and instead of showing the slightest bit of concern, she just walked over and snapped, "Have you taken Pilates before? Do you know what this class is all about?" No empathy or professionalism, just hostility... To make things even worse, she marked me as absent on ClassPass, blocking me from leaving a review and charging me an extra fee for a class I honestly wish I had skipped. Throughout the class, she kept complaining about almost going to the hospital yesterday--repeating it over and over, as if trying to guilt the class for her being there. I have no idea what she was trying to imply, but she should seek professional help before taking her issues out on paying customers. Was really excited to take this class but was so disappointed by the instructor and her teaching style. She actually started the class off by telling us to "shut up!". As a relative newcomer to Pilates, but frequent fitness class attendee, I've never felt more judged by an instructor. She was snarky when we made mistakes (tbh her instruction wasn't always clear in the first place), even going so far as to laugh at us when we were confused. While constructive feedback is important and we all need support on our form, what you say is just as important as how you say it. In this case, it was said rudely to a never ending Taylor Swift playlist. TLDR: If you were a mean girl in high school, you'll find yourself right at home. If you are looking for a respectful, positive environment... look elsewhere. read more

I've been working out consistently for over 25 years but NEVER tried Pilates. Because it's around the corner from my building, I figured, why not....Core Burn on 79th st. I started with a private with Jennifer Becker...and what a GREAT start. She explained everything, didn't make me feel like a total klutz and gave great feedback. After a few more privates, which were really good, (including how our personalities meshed) I added classes. Jennifer is great with the classes as well. She explains and demonstrates everything, while at the same time, making light of our struggles and "mistakes." The room, even when full, never feels crowded. The equipment is in perfect shape and the cleaning protocols are specified and followed. The people who attend the classes are dedicated and attentive to the teacher, yet we still find time to bond and laugh. New friends from new exercises. GO! read more

By way of background, I'm a former dancer and have tried dozens of studios on ClassPass. I live in the neighborhood and pass by this studio all the time so figured I would give it a try on ClassPass. I've only taken reformer classes, but I've seen tower classes and mixes reformer/tower classes on the schedule as well. The studio itself is immaculate and reformer classes are limited to 9 students, ensuring lots of personal attention. There are no mirrors on the walls - I know some people prefer this but I personally like to have mirrors to check my alignment. The reformer area is separated from the rest of the studio by curtains, so it can be distracting if there is an individual session going on at the same time. The classes are not as challenging as SLT but are a good alternative for a low-impact workout that won't leave you too sweaty. I run a lot so this is a nice cross-training option for me. I did not enjoy Ryan's classes (no personality and a few rude comments) but have liked Tamara, Ardella, and Catherine's classes. Also, I feel like I have to mention that the studio is offering an incentive (a free water bottle) for positive Yelp reviews. As someone who relies on reviews when I'm deciding whether to try out a new studio, I really don't like when businesses do this. So I guess take all the 5 star reviews with a grain of salt. read more

Honestly, if I could give zero stars I would. I signed up for a class here in my journey to find a studio that suits my needs best and was sadly disappointed. I had a whole conversation with Rosaly before any of the other participants showed up where I informed her that it was my second time trying Pilates and I was in no way proficient in the craft. As the session went on I found myself constantly belittled and embarrassed by Rosaly as I wasn't as fast and knowledgeable as the rest of the class. I understood it wasn't an intro class but I was not expecting to feel this poorly. I felt picked on especially when she was standing next to me and said, "someone doesn't know what 2 inches is" in the rudest tone as I was getting my instrument positioned in between my legs above my ankles. Mind you I'm not the most athletic or in shape person, so her quick demands or cues were stressful enough. As I was getting myself adjusted in one position I started to get teary eyed when she asked us to look forward mainly because she was standing right next to me radiating her judgment directly at me. I kept my head down hoping she wouldn't see me cry and she proceeded to put her hand on my face and pick it up to look forward. At that moment I was DONE! One, if you are a stranger to me don't ever put your hands on me especially my face and two UMMM COVID! I was extremely uncomfortable when she put her hands on me and quite honestly contemplated walking out. Her snarky remarks and jabs continued throughout the whole session. When I heard her say the words "you're done!" I couldn't get out of there fast enough. I will absolutely never step foot in that studio again or speak to that woman again my life. Worst Pilates experience EVER. Maybe because I signed up through ClassPass she thought I would probably never show up again so she thought to treat me like shit for the hell of it, I don't know? I am a huge fan of CP Burn - both their UES and Midtown locations. Not are clean, new, gorgeous studio. Fun, well-priced classes. All of their instructors have solid backgrounds, and many have professional dance backgrounds. I always feel better as soon as I walk into this studio, and then I feel anew when I leave. read more

I was a very loyal customer who spent THOUSANDS of dollars at this studio. I had a package that was not fully used up yet and then got pregnant and was not medically cleared to perform this type of core-intensive workout. Upon learning I was pregnant, I asked for my package to be frozen for this medical reason and was denied. This is mind-blowing... every other fitness studio and gym will freeze memberships and packages for medical reasons. I reached back out to them after I gave birth and after I received postpartum clearance from my doctor and they refused to release the three classes that I HAD BOUGHT AND PAID FOR. They claimed that it took me "too long" to follow-up with them. Whoops, sorry that biology mandates a baby to grow for 9 months and then another 2 for postpartum clearance. THEY THEN WENT ON TO SAY THAT I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT PRIVATE CLASSES ($125+ per class!!) TO ACCOMMODATE MY PREGNANCY. They have lost a customer for life and I hope everyone who reads this will now know their discrimination and harassment towards pregnant customers. read more

While the facility is nice, this review is about the total experience. I have been a customer since they opened and have touched numerous employees where I have had inconsistent messages, all pointing fingers to each other and taking zero responsibility for the studio has previously committed to. They are not customer focused, not helpful, not flexible - specifically the new manager Tara, who is not taking any ownership for the way the studio has been ran prior to her, adding new rules to the mix daily. I had never been to a tower or reformer class before CP Burn and now i'm hooked! I enjoy both group classes and privates. The instructors are all very upbeat and knowledgeable making it a comfortable studio to visit. The small group class size makes it so that the instructors can give modifications and work on form.
