Best gym in Athens AND Watkinsville... They have all the standard gear plus a whole bunch of other toys you don't find at the other gyms.

I joined Core Blend two years ago, and in that time I have seen more progress than in all the other years combined.

The trainers get to know you personally, they take an interest in you as a person, and they even check in on you to ensure that you at continuously progressing towards your fitness goals. Creed is more than a place to work out. It is a community of fun, fitness-minded friends!

Tribe Fitness has changed everything I ever thought about working out. Honestly, it's changed my…read morelife. I know that sounds crazy, but let me explain. I've dealt with injuries my whole life. I love running outside, but it seems that my tendons and joints weren't able to handle it. I would end up with knee pain, Achilles' tendonitis, or a hamstring tear and have to stop running for a few weeks. Every time I would lose all my momentum. I could never succeed in a consistent running program, now matter how slowly I progressed through it. And of course, running indoors on the treadmill or elliptical is SO BORING! Trying to go consistently to the gym was impossible for me. I'd either end up injured or make excuses not to go. The solution to ALL of my problems was Tribe. I've never been to a gym that I've been EXCITED to go workout in with a staff that cares so much. Here's a few reasons why I love it. 1) Matt and Ruthie are absolutely AMAZING trainers. They always take the time to teach us how to do the workouts with proper form, and they watch us every second to make sure we maintain it. They constantly give helpful tips and tricks on how to lift safely (which is incredibly important). And the best part is that they're always so encouraging through the workout. They genuinely want you to succeed! 2) Tribe workouts are SO MUCH FUN!!!! Every time I finish a workout I can't WAIT to go again. Yes they're challenging and kick my butt, but you're only there for 45 minutes and the WODs are no more than 25 minutes. It makes it possible for you to push yourself for the entire workout. We do something different every day, so that means I'm always learning something new or improving on something. It works your brain and your body. I've never gotten bored in a Tribe workout! Plus nothing can describe the happiness I felt when I mastered kipping pull ups and double unders. 3) Tribe is for everyone. Seriously. The workouts are hard, but the trainers will scale down the weight or technique so it's just right for you, and you can progress and build as you get stronger and more comfortable. The first few weeks are tough because you're challenging your body in completely new ways, but once you get adjusted it feels AMAZING. I haven't run in 6 months and I was able to run an 8:47 minute mile (my fastest before was an 11:30 after 2 months of running, and then I got injured). Yowza! The workouts are always hard, but as you gain strength it becomes quite bearable and now, I absolutely love the intensity! 4) Finally, my favorite part: no injuries!!!!! I'm getting stronger every week, lifting more weight and reaching PR's, gaining muscle. It's made a huge difference. I've never been able to work out for 3 months straight, 3 times a week without getting injured. And now, I'm finally there. I'm never going back to a regular gym. Ever.

I was attending a conference hosted at UGA when I discovered my hotel gym couldn't begin to meet my needs. I Yelp'd my nearest WA and found this facility; THANK GOODNESS!! This gym is one of the cleanest & has all the equipment an athlete needs. I don't know when the next time I'll be in the area but whenever I am, I'll skip the hotel gym altogether and come straight here.

(And please remember this is coming from an older individual)…read more I was one of the first members 5 years ago. Apparently management has changed since then. There was once a mature gentleman at the front desk and now there are, um, several teenagers at the front desk But don't look down because the floor is filthy and there's a couple of roaches. It is obvious that the equipment when cleaned is cleaned by those who use it not the entire piece of equipment cleaned by staff.. There are three Fox News screens and only one CNN. The music is abrasive and loud (I listen to the 90s and grunge and the music is worse than that.) it is so loud that with both earbuds in it is difficult to hear my book. Could we at least turn it down to the point that the young girls at the front desk don't have to yell and screak and scream at each other to have a conversation? Because of my age and familiarity with gyms I purposely go on weekdays, midmornings. That way I assume I won't interrupt young people's music and screaks of laughter etc. but the abrasive music is the same regardless of the clientele at that particular time. Why do I continue to go? Because it's only 3 miles from my home.

I've lived all over the country and have done Crossfit off and on for years. I relocated back to…read morethis area & joined a "normal" gym. It was overcrowded & I was constantly waiting for machines. I then tried their group fitness weight training class & the coaches/trainers were not engaged or motivating. THEN, I found Crossfit Oconee and I'm so glad! I tried the free trial just to see if I still had it in me. I won't lie, it was HARD & I was super sore but it left me wanting more. I was super impressed with how welcoming the community was. The athletes introduced themselves & I felt very welcomed. There are a good mix of people and fitness levels there so if you're a newbie - believe in yourself & stick with it. They offer a one on one class for new members to go over the movements & form. You will also get access to the Wodify app which shows you the daily workouts with videos so you can be prepared & practice your movements at home. The During the actual workouts they have more than one coach roaming the gym to offer you help on your form. They will offer you alternative movements if you can't do handstand walks or handstand pushups. The fellow athletes are very inspiring. Every one I've met has said "I stared 6 months or a year ago..." They look amazing too. The gym itself it top notch with the best equipment and it's kept clean. This is hands-down the best CF gym I've been been to and I started off at the original box in San Diego. It may seem pricey but the coaches really are creme de la creme & always make me feel inspired & motivated. I paid the same for a personal trainer & this is way better. They also offer nutrition coaching & serve as a pick-up location for a local meal prep service. Another athlete spoke highly of the nutrition coaching so I may give it a try. The sign up process was simple & easy. The gal at the front desk was super sweet & you get a nice cup & CFO T shirt when you join. They really have a good thing going!!

I started attending classes at Crossfit Oconee in July 2017. I had just turned 41 years old and…read morereally thought that "being in shape" had passed me by. Sure, I worked out every now and then at a big box corporate gym, but never saw any progress whatsoever. So yeah, let's just say I felt like a lot of husbands, dads and professionals out there. Same goes for the wives and moms, you know what I'm talking about. The ones who can't run a mile without keeling over in pain but rationalizes it as being over the hill. The ones who can knock out 20 pushups but inside are questioning why that is so hard. I could go on, but I digress. Payton Owens, the owner of Crossfit Oconee (CFO) is very personable and caring and so are the other coaches who run the classes. However, you get out of it what you put into it. First off, it's hard showing up to a gym, moreover a Crossfit gym as that out of shape dad or mom. But engage with the other gym members, scale your workouts to develop confidence, proper form, strength and endurance and your experience will probably be similar to mine, which is a great one. I'm now entering my 16th month as a CFO athlete (yes, they refer to members as athletes and I like that). When I think back to those first few weeks and even months, I remember how hard it was to complete a workout. But I scaled when needed and just kept showing up. Now, I feel proud and fulfilled - like I've taken my life and fitness back from the years of #dadbod and feeling weak. Not to mention my nutrition and overall physical wellbeing has improved dramatically. Am I where I want to be physically? No way, not even close. Now, I keep wanting to hit a new strength goal or endurance goal. (Isn't that how it should be?) But, it's a lifestyle and mindset change when you go to Crossfit. How many times did you do power cleans or farmer's carries at your box box gym? My overall strength and core strength compared to how I was 16 months ago is 1000 times improved. I have energy for days and my clothes have never fit or looked better while I'm wearing them. Give CFO a chance if you're in the Athens/Watkinsville area. But remember, it's a two-way street. You get out of it what you put into it. That goes for attitude, willingness to learn, asking questions, doing workouts that make you feel like you're going to fall over, etc. And, I say that regarding the couple of negative reviews seen here on Yelp. Come in with a positive attitude and don't be nervous to ask questions or to meet people. It's okay to feel intimidated for the first few trips. I know I did. None of the instructors or fellow CFO athletes have ever made me feel marginalized. As for it being kid-friendly? Sure, it's kid-friendly. I bring my kids with me from time to time, but it's not a nursery. Take a pack n play and put them in there, bring an iPad and have them watch a movie if they're small or get a babysitter for your kids and then go workout. If they're a bit older like mine. Tell them to not act a fool and if they act right you'll take them to Dunkin' Donuts afterwards (but only the kids can have the donuts, not you :)
