Georgia Strength is one of best facilities I have visited. The coaching is top notch. The workouts are fun and challenging.

I've lived all over the country and have done Crossfit off and on for years. I relocated back to…read morethis area & joined a "normal" gym. It was overcrowded & I was constantly waiting for machines. I then tried their group fitness weight training class & the coaches/trainers were not engaged or motivating. THEN, I found Crossfit Oconee and I'm so glad! I tried the free trial just to see if I still had it in me. I won't lie, it was HARD & I was super sore but it left me wanting more. I was super impressed with how welcoming the community was. The athletes introduced themselves & I felt very welcomed. There are a good mix of people and fitness levels there so if you're a newbie - believe in yourself & stick with it. They offer a one on one class for new members to go over the movements & form. You will also get access to the Wodify app which shows you the daily workouts with videos so you can be prepared & practice your movements at home. The During the actual workouts they have more than one coach roaming the gym to offer you help on your form. They will offer you alternative movements if you can't do handstand walks or handstand pushups. The fellow athletes are very inspiring. Every one I've met has said "I stared 6 months or a year ago..." They look amazing too. The gym itself it top notch with the best equipment and it's kept clean. This is hands-down the best CF gym I've been been to and I started off at the original box in San Diego. It may seem pricey but the coaches really are creme de la creme & always make me feel inspired & motivated. I paid the same for a personal trainer & this is way better. They also offer nutrition coaching & serve as a pick-up location for a local meal prep service. Another athlete spoke highly of the nutrition coaching so I may give it a try. The sign up process was simple & easy. The gal at the front desk was super sweet & you get a nice cup & CFO T shirt when you join. They really have a good thing going!!

I started attending classes at Crossfit Oconee in July 2017. I had just turned 41 years old and…read morereally thought that "being in shape" had passed me by. Sure, I worked out every now and then at a big box corporate gym, but never saw any progress whatsoever. So yeah, let's just say I felt like a lot of husbands, dads and professionals out there. Same goes for the wives and moms, you know what I'm talking about. The ones who can't run a mile without keeling over in pain but rationalizes it as being over the hill. The ones who can knock out 20 pushups but inside are questioning why that is so hard. I could go on, but I digress. Payton Owens, the owner of Crossfit Oconee (CFO) is very personable and caring and so are the other coaches who run the classes. However, you get out of it what you put into it. First off, it's hard showing up to a gym, moreover a Crossfit gym as that out of shape dad or mom. But engage with the other gym members, scale your workouts to develop confidence, proper form, strength and endurance and your experience will probably be similar to mine, which is a great one. I'm now entering my 16th month as a CFO athlete (yes, they refer to members as athletes and I like that). When I think back to those first few weeks and even months, I remember how hard it was to complete a workout. But I scaled when needed and just kept showing up. Now, I feel proud and fulfilled - like I've taken my life and fitness back from the years of #dadbod and feeling weak. Not to mention my nutrition and overall physical wellbeing has improved dramatically. Am I where I want to be physically? No way, not even close. Now, I keep wanting to hit a new strength goal or endurance goal. (Isn't that how it should be?) But, it's a lifestyle and mindset change when you go to Crossfit. How many times did you do power cleans or farmer's carries at your box box gym? My overall strength and core strength compared to how I was 16 months ago is 1000 times improved. I have energy for days and my clothes have never fit or looked better while I'm wearing them. Give CFO a chance if you're in the Athens/Watkinsville area. But remember, it's a two-way street. You get out of it what you put into it. That goes for attitude, willingness to learn, asking questions, doing workouts that make you feel like you're going to fall over, etc. And, I say that regarding the couple of negative reviews seen here on Yelp. Come in with a positive attitude and don't be nervous to ask questions or to meet people. It's okay to feel intimidated for the first few trips. I know I did. None of the instructors or fellow CFO athletes have ever made me feel marginalized. As for it being kid-friendly? Sure, it's kid-friendly. I bring my kids with me from time to time, but it's not a nursery. Take a pack n play and put them in there, bring an iPad and have them watch a movie if they're small or get a babysitter for your kids and then go workout. If they're a bit older like mine. Tell them to not act a fool and if they act right you'll take them to Dunkin' Donuts afterwards (but only the kids can have the donuts, not you :)

THE COACHES, they push and push you some more, they encourage you, they work so hard! You walk into the doors of the Junkyard and you can expect consistency, you can expect to work hard and you can expect to walk out feeling like you got your butt kicked but wanting to come back for more! I walked into this gym two years ago and about 50lbs heavier. I didn't really know what to expect, I just knew I wanted to make a change, I was happy with myself and I wanted more. My previous work outs had been at the YMCA and I would just kind of go through the motions, never really saw any results. My first workout at the JY was hard, so hard I thought I might quit but then the coaches are there motivating you, pushing you, telling you that YOU CAN DO IT! And you know what? YOU CAN DO IT and do it again! This gym has built a community, one I'm proud to be apart of! If you have heard about how hard the classes are and you are thinking I'm not in shape enough, I can't go..Or it's too hard for me..Or I'm not a college student, I couldn't keep up.. None of that is true, this gym is for all ages, all body types, all fitness levels. You start on your level and you work to improve yourself, you get faster, you get stronger..at your own pace! The person beside you on the treadmill might be faster than you but let that motivate you to work harder! There's no excuse to not try one class because I promise after you go once, you'll be coming back for more! Don't let the fear of walking through the door stop you from trying it && if you need someone to go with, I'll go with you! I want to say thank you to this gym, the employees and coaches for all you do! I see all your hard work and I appreciate it. I am better because of y'all, I want to work harder because of what you all do! I appreciate everything!

I don't recommend being late though (I am working on that.) idr my coaches name but Gracie at the front was super cool. And the owner of the food bar was super sweet too. So all around good vibes. I died. I recommend it. Super cool inspirational video in the beginning ;) I dig it. I'll be back.

He's a very knowledgeable person not only about fitness and he seems to actually care about your fitness journey. He's an excellent trainer as well and very personable. It's a fairly small place, but it's got what I need: treadmills, bikes and elliptical trainers, and a nice selection of weight machines and free weights. Daily classes for those who want them, along with a tanning room and individual showers/changing rooms. Dan and Gisela, the owners, are there daily, they'll greet you when you walk in, and they work hard to keep the place nice. I see a lot of the same people there from day to day, and it's a nice change from the slightly cheesy meat-market atmosphere I've encountered at some other gyms other the years. Like I said, no BS here -- just the stuff you need to stay fit, in a safe, clean, welcoming environment. One last comment: I usually visit in the mornings, and there is never a crowd or a problem accessing equipment, even when school is in. It's a bit more crowded in the evenings, but I have never waited more than a couple of minutes for a treadmill. There's 24 hour access by key card, too. If you need a pool, a sauna, a country-club locker room, or some exotic piece of high-tech fitness machinery, this isn't the place. Otherwise, give it a try!
