Long and shotgun straight, from entryway to the kitchen in back, Corbo's Bakery stuffs the space at 12210 Mayfield Road with the sort of scene recognizable from the streets of New York or Boston while eschewing the high prices and recognizable Bronx accents, the same family still in charge after 50+ years, though the staff on this particular day was mostly comprised of CWRU students that were perfectly pleasant despite audibly being heard throughout the visit describing late-night shenanigans from the previous evening. Taking time to peruse the options, bakers from the back filing out with cookies, cakes and more to replenish store shelves, it was after some deliberation that a total of thirteen items were selected and taken to one of two small high-tops for indulgence, a few repeats and leftovers saved for later and eventually shared with visiting family. Priced slightly higher than Presti's when compared item-for-item, but making up for the hike by focusing on small details like filling Cannoli to order, it was with a loud crack that the lengthy cylinder gave way to smooth Mascarpone filling, the Sfogliatelle an equally shattering experience with springy coils launching Confectioner's Sugar skyward as teeth plunged into the Citrus-scented Ricotta center. Famed for its Cassata Cake, essentially a Strawberry Shortcake upgraded by a rich layer of Custard, it can only be assumed that the Crocs-clad Celebrity Chef visited during the height of Summer when he deemed the item "best I have ever tried in the USA," several not-yet-ripe fruit slices marring an otherwise decent cake-slice while an Italian Cookie collection proved far more compelling, the Buckeyes and Butterballs a throwback to Childhood while the freshly made Rainbow Cookies were perhaps the best *I* have ever tasted. read more

This is absolutely my all time favorite bakery in Ohio! The Cannoli's are seriously the best. The taste, the texture and of course, I love the chocolate dip on the ends but, you can get without as well. Now, we can talk about the Cassata cake. It is simply, amazing and is asked for by every person in our family for their birthday cake! Fresh strawberries, amazing home made custard filling, not overly sweet whipping cream and the flowers that they add even taste amazing. Everyone always wants a flower on their piece. We visited the bakery last Saturday- all excited to get the famous Cassata cake. We've had it in the past so we knew it was good- well, something has changed. It was more like a cake gone wrong and made into strawberry shortcake. The cake was liquified from the strawberry sauce and then doused with whipped cream. Very disappointing! I won't be getting that there again! The other bakery we got was delicious! So, yes, I recommend going but don't get their cassata cake. read more

I should start by admitting that I spent many a college night pigging out on elaborately flavored cannoli from Mike's Pastry in Boston's North End. How could anything compare to Mike's, with the spectacle of those classic white and blue pastry boxes, the stamped tin ceiling tiles, and the hordes of people lined up along the block just waiting to get in? Nevertheless, back in Cleveland...I'm not sure why everybody talks about Presti's, because the cannoli at Corbo's are pretty darn good. The shell is fresh and crunchy, and the filling is delicious - smooth, sweet but not too sweet, and with just a hint of...(up to you to figure it out). tldr, Presti's versus Corbo's: - cannoli: Corbo's, hands down - tiramisu: Presti's, hands down - cassata cake: Corbo's, possibly...the jury is still out. The food is great but I wish I could say that about the service. The lady that's always there named Courtney was rude to me and gave me short answers. Maybe she was having a bad day but then I noticed the way she interacted with other customers and turns out she was only rude to me! She told me she cannot warm my pizza up because she because she is the only one working there but when I was waiting for my Uber to arrive, she started using profane language and talked to the other employee in the back kitchen. I can't tell you how many times I've picked up a cassata cake from Corbo's for a party - their cakes are truly a part of the Cleveland culture and are super popular at any party! The cake itself is light, the cream super decadent, and the fresh fruit a wonderful complement to the existing flavors. I haven't gotten many other sweets from Corbo's, but their cases are always stocked with a wide variety of cookies and cakes and other delicious-looking confections. It was absolutely delicious. I am fully converted to Corbo's Bakery. The day after my birthday, I found myself eating cake for breakfast (still moist), lunch and dinner. I ate cake all day. Prior to going to Corbos, I ordered several cakes from a bakery in Lyndhurst, in which the cakes were dry, and the last one I ordered was nothing but 50 pounds of icing and dry. NOT AT CORBO'S! I have been getting pastry from Corbo's for about 30 years. The Cannolis are incredible. Sweet ricotta filled in the shell when you order. I've ordered Casita cakes over a dozen times and they are consistently incredible. The Sicilian and traditional are delicious. I was in Boston this weekend and went to the north end which is the little Italy of Boston. Both places did not stand up to Corbo's though came highly recommended by locals. Has anyone who works at this bakery tasted a cannoli in Sicily or a sfogliatella in Naples? Has anyone who gave this high-priced tourist trap four or five stars ever been to a pastry shop anywhere in the south of Italy? The $1.75 each mini cannoli were meh. Cannoli filled with chocolate chips and ricotta? Not in Sicily, paesano. The sfogliatelle were filled with grainy, lumpy gloop that was supposed to be delicate pastry cream. The sfogliatelle we bought were tough and chewy not light and crispy. The food of Neapolitan aristocracy sold in this bakery is little more than an insult to Napoletani who've made these pastries famous. I just moved in the neighborhood about a week ago and I've probably already gained 5 pounds from eating here. There are so many delicious things here. I highly recommend their donuts. I don't know the exact name of these but it's like a straight croissant shaped pastry that is glazed and stuffed with walnuts and only $3. Another thing that is phenomenal is this pretzel looking pastry that is glazed. I've only scratched the surface of their menu and I look forward to coming here again. Their cake is also amazing. Yum! Maybe I just picked right on this one? Maybe it is the best? But the tiramisu won my heart! I visited during the Feast of the Assumption and even though vendor food is sometimes subpar, the tiramisu was a little piece of heaven! I was with a few friends and it was hard for us to share. We also ordered some of the famous cassata cake, which was yummy, but as best as I can describe, it's like a muted sweetness. This was my first time trying the cake. It wasn't what I expected. The strawberries were big and juicy, the cake and cream light and fluffy. But that tiramisu. Oh that tiramisu! Mmmm. I forgot how much I love that stuff. Located in the heart of Little Italy, even though parking could be a bear they are definitely worth checking out. Corbo's is a classic Italian bakery. The specialize in there cannolis, and they don't disappoint. There are two varieties, chocolate dipped and traditional. The filling is clearly made fresh, and has the classic taste of fresh creme. Along with the cannolis people come for small specialty cookies, and cakes too I believe. I date a Carbone, a member of an old Italian family in Cleveland. Rumor has it that in the past if you went here for a wedding cake, and weren't Italian you were turned away. It was a strictly Italian American only business. I find history fascinating so the history behind this practically historic bakery is breathtaking. I almost wish I had a time machine just so they could tell me to take a hike for the novelty. Ok! Enough history, you walk in, and like any bakery work your way down a line ordering items you see passing by cases as you go. I love this format personally! One other gem here my boyfriend pointed out was the pepperoni bread, it's irresistible. The Cannolis are also the best in the city, if not the United States. I love this Bakery if only for their cassata cake! Seriously that cake is the bomb you really really need to try this. Generally avoid Little Italy and East Cleveland primarily because well it's East Cleveland. Little Italy generally is way overrated as the majority of the restaurants there have not evolved with the rest of Cleveland. It's almost as if they're stuck in time which is kind of cool. Corbo's Bakery is rather well-known and they do a great job filling your confectionery dreams. We stopped in to Corpus after getting some dinner at Max's Tavern down the street and got our fill of Christmas cookies and cannoli. It was Winter and snowing cold and all I wanted was a nice cappuccino. They were able to oblige, but they made the coffee just like you would do yourself at the machine in the gas station.
