By far one of the worst experiences we have ever had at a bakery. We ordered a cake, prepaid, and went to pick it up... They didn't have a name with the cake and couldn't even find the cake. Attention cookie lovers: if you prefer the brightly-colored, sweet, soft cookies, like rainbow ones for example, or those pink or green leaves with chocolate in the middle, then go to Corbo's instead of Presti's!! I went to Presti's the other night in search of some sugar. While that bakery was populated and fun in its own way, with lots of coffee drinkers and "designer" looking pastries, it's not what I was craving. Went to Corbo's, and I knew just from the smell walking in that I had found what I was looking for. Everything was fantastic, from the chocolate drops to the raspberry-filled. My favorites are always the rainbow cookies, though, and I was so happy they had them here! My husband loved the cannoli too, and said the shell was light and airy and the filling was smooth and not overly sweet with a great texture and crunch overall. Would love to come here for a big-ass cake sometime. read more

Of the 2 bakeries in Little Italy, Corbos is by far, the best! The cookies are super fresh and they melt in your mouth. The creamy cassata cake is the best I've had (Mario Batali apparently agrees). The chocolate fudge cheesecake is to die for! I'm not a fan, but I've heard the cannolis are the best...getting their sweet tasty filling AFTER you buy them, which is a necessity. People come from all over for the pepperoni bread. It truly is, ALL THAT. Don't forget to try the spinach version! I think I like that one better. I haven't had anything I didn't like and I've tried just about everything at this point. The prices are definitely high, but that's to be expected. Try finding pastry this good anywhere else! Corbos used to be on the corner of Mayfield and Murry Hill. They recently moved next door, which just made sense. The old place, although charming and old school, was too small and was falling apart. The new place is huge, complete with tables and chairs and large cases full of goodies. My one big complaint is the ambiance (which is why I'm giving a 4 star rating). It's so bright, it feels like a grocery store. There's nothing warm or inviting about the place. I feel like I'm on display when inside. There's no need for the stark lighting for the pastry cases are well lit. It's a shame because the place could be really nice. I go in and I get out quick. You won't find locals hanging out with their laptops here. When it's warm, you can sit outside, which is nice. If Corbos were to get wise and soften the lighting, maybe adding a drop fixture or two, they'd be a really be a force to recon with. read more

One of the best Italian bakeries in this region. The cannoli's are filled while you wait. The cream filling is creamy and decadent. I purchased several that were dipped in chocolate. I also purchased some strawberries dipped in chocolate and I have to honestly say they were the best dipped strawberries I ever had! I also purchased some tiramisu and that was also good, but the strawberry cake (not sure what they call it) was unbelievable! Stopped in during the Feast of the Assumption after picking up a few bowls of handmade cavatelli at their stand outside the bakery. The bakery smells like a dream--namely, a fragrant, vanilla-scented, ice-cream-y dream. They sport a dazzling array of cookies and cakes, of which we sampled their tiramisu and cannolis. The tiramisu was hands down the best I've ever had: the filling was rich but fluffy and infused with an intense mocha flavor, paired with a crumbly chocolatey bottom layer. Good thing I don't live near Little Italy...I'd have it every day if I could. The cannolis were pretty good but the filling, which is embedded with chocolate chips, had an odd, custard-like--super smooth yet dense-lumpy texture. Colozza's in Parma still has the lead in the cannoli category, at least for me. I'm not sure if they carry this all the time, but their cavatelli was excellent, with the creamy-al-dente texture of fresh pasta and stick-to-you-ribs heaviness that's characteristic of Italian comfort staples. The only drawback: our cavatelli bowls each came with an enormous meatball, just a tad smaller than a baseball, and while the flavor was good, the texture was disappointing. 60% of it must have been comprised of some odd filler that resembled bits of wet paper. In short: Corbo's makes killer tiramisu and cavatelli (pasta only). They'll definitely be on the top of my list when I'm looking for a cassata cake or any cake, really. read more

The people that worked here provided easily the worst customer service I've ever received. If you want to have a good day just avoid this place altogether. I was visiting Cleveland for the weekend, and my hosts took me to Little Italy for dinner. Being Sicilian, I was loving this. After dinner, one of my hosts wanted lemon ice and wandered into Corbo's. I was ecstatic to discover that Corbo's had Italian sesame cookies! Sesame cookies were a staple of my childhood...and something I haven't had in at least 20 years. They are not made en masse like they used to be, and there is no Italian bakery in Raleigh (something that should really be rectified, but I digress), so I was so happy to see this. I had to buy half a dozen cookies. And they were just like I remembered them--dry and crumbly, with just a hint of extra flavor. (I always taste lemon, but I'm told it's actually anise.) I was a happy camper. Thank you, Corbo's, for returning me briefly to my childhood. :) My Cleveland hosts are coming to Raleigh in a couple of weeks and have promised to bring me more sesame cookies from Corbo's...I hope they do! read more

I first went to the bakery down the street and left as I felt it wasn't "authentic"... thankfully, while strolling I happened upon Corbos and am so happy I did. I knew when I walked in it was a true Italian bakery based on the products they carried. It was as if I were in the Bronx. (Where I'm originally from). I ordered a svogliatelle,plain cannoli and just had to have an impromptu chocolate Italian ice. The svogliatelle was light and crispy and savory and amazing. The cannoli was stuffed as we waited...(the proper way to avoid a soggy shell) ... and the chocolate ice reminded me of my childhood. The service was warm and welcoming! Corbo's has the BEST cannoli in town, and it's not even close by a long shot. Every time I go in there I can expect attentive service and an all around pleasant experience. In addition to the cannoli I'm a huge fan of their rainbow cookies and peanutters. I do have to try their cassata cake, as they advertise that as best in town as well. One of the other added benefits of going to Corbo's is I know they will get to my order efficiently whereas other bakeries you can plan on being there for a while. A little on the cannoli: Regular and chocolate dipped, has hints of cinnamon and the perfect shell/crust. The crust has some good crunch to it, others I've tried around town are a little too chewy. This is definitely my favorite place to get a cannoli! It's the perfect treat for any time of the year. They are sweet but not to sweet. They taste fresh. They have plain and chocolate dipped cannolis. All have little chocolate chips mixed into the filling. I go to the Feast almost ever year and I always go to Corbo's for my cannoli. They also have a lot of other dessert selections that never disappoint. Such as cassata cake and the 7layer/rainbow cookie. This year I also went to their tent for Cavatelli and meatballs and let me tell you it was AMAZING. Definitely beats "ma's" meatballs. 10/10 would always recommend this bakery. read more

I've been to Corbo's and Presti's a couple times and find that the pastries taste much fresher and better at Presti's. The cassata cake tasted somewhat dry and heavy at Corbo's while at Presti's it was fresh and moist and blended together with the layers of custard. I'm not sure what to make of the cookies at Corbo's. They had a a somewhat unfresh aftertaste that made me wonder if they were baked with margarine. I suspect that everything is fresh at Corbo's but the consistency and flavor don't prove it. read more

These are great because not only do they come in different sizes, but they are filled to order. Delicious & fresh! Now here is the reason I can't stay away: I wanted something different so I randomly ordered a piece of the orange torte. Oh. My. Goodness.. Is this real life? This is the BEST dessert I have ever had. It's tart, incredibly moist & layered perfectly. They also have a raspberry torte that is equally amazing. I have purchased an entire torte for family parties & it's always a hit. It's also very reasonably priced. These are both available frozen if you don't plan on being home for awhile (the single pieces & the entire torte). Last but not least, their biscotti is perfect with your morning coffee. I love that they have the broken pieces discounted as well. If I am not near the Eastside, I will make a stop at a Marc's location since they have many of the items there & they are always just as good. If there is any type of competition between the two bakeries, Prestis will impress you with their cafe feel (coffee, breads from Stone Oven), while Corbo's will impress you with their BAKERY. They have these chocolate chip cookies with fudge in the middle, and every time I bite into these little bits of heaven I die all over again. They are soft, and almost taste like raw cookie dough because they are served cold. IT IS A MUST TRY. The lemon bars are almost as good as my own - truly homemade. no gimmicks. I ate 3 under a week - yeah, that good. I prefer prestis for the raspberry linzers, but honestly this place has its niche in my heart! The cannolis are perfection because of one key difference between Corbo's and other Italian bakeries; they keep the filling in the fridge in piping bags, and only fill each shell as the cannolis are ordered. The result is a perfectly crunchy shell that hugs its creamy riccota filling without sogginess. The staff on duty the day I visited the bakery had no idea how to prepare espresso drinks. This normally would have irritated me enough to knock off an entire star from a review. What an adorable little bakery! Comapred to Presti's, it's worth pointing out that they put the filling in their canolis at Corbos after you order it, which is neat. They are also much more anise-flavored. To me, that's not appealing, but most people seem to prefer it so - there you go. It's up to personal preference on that one. This place isn't going to have anything really savory like Presti's - it's all cookies and cakes, basically. But they know what they're doing. The cookies are always awesome and the staff is always friendly. I have yet to be let down by the food here. Like I said before, it's just a bakery, not a cafe or lunch spot, so they seem to put a good amount of focus on making the sweets authentic and awesome. I still like Presti's, as well, and basically go back and forth between these two places. I love them both! Definitely worth a trip. read more

Leave the gun. This place is the gold standard for cannoli. I've now eaten cannoli in the Little Italy areas of Cleveland, Boston and Providence - and by far, this is the best of them all. Good shells, filled fresh, and a wonderful, flavorful filling. Side note: They are not open on Mondays. I made the mistake of going to Little Italy on a Monday, and was sad to find that they were closed. While I was walking away, someone else walked up to the door, tried opening it, only to realize that they were closed, and uttered an incredibly loud expletive.
