Came here with my wife and bestfriends and were impressed by how delicious the food was! I ordered the chilaquiles verdes and it was one of the best chilaquiles I have ever had. The portion of the beans could have been better as it was probably two spoonfuls of beans. I also tried green chicken tamales and corn pancakes and were soooo good!! The taco options come with a side of rice and cabbage salad. Of the tacos I've tried, I recommend the mole chicken and the rajas. Although I didn't order them, the tamales they were dishing out looked great! I would love to come back and try them. Tables are close together and every time a server walked by our table, they had to squeeze between tables and were kicking my friend's chair. She was pretty annoyed at this. Really slow service. Our drink order (1 beer, 1 mojito) took at least 10 minutes to get. The food took about 45 minutes. We had a 5:30 reservation, and at 6:30, we still didn't have our food. Otherwise, the service was dismal. We had to flag down the waiter for everything. They give you a tiny complimentary bowl of chips (with about 6 chips) that have a tiny bit of mole sauce on top, along with a tiny sample of 5 salsas. I used my knife to spread the mole and salsa on my chips. When we were done, they took our little plates, which meant having to put our utensils, of which my knife was now dirty, on the table. yuck. I was so hungry, I asked for more chips. When the bill came, there was a $2.50 charge for the chips. And no, they came without any more salsa. The ceviche is the worst I've ever had...ever. Really small portion, and it had sliced carrots on top, which I thought was very odd. The chunks of white fish were not only tasteless, but they were just super mushy. Just awful. I sent it back and told them to take it off my bill. We also ordered the Enchiladas del Mecado, which were just ok. Weird that they were shaped like two flat sections of a quesadilla, and not like an enchilada at all. Smothered in some kind of bright green sauce that had absolutely no flavor. Since we'd sent back the inedible ceviche, we shared the Enchiladas del Mecado. So that was 1 small piece each. I paid for the one mojito and for the enchiladas. With tax and tip, came to almost $50. ugh. And yes, I tipped. Even though the service sucked, the restaurant was busy and the poor guy was working his ass off. Never again. Top three favorite Mexican restaurants! I came here with my husband on a Tuesday night, without a reservation, and were seated right away. This feels like an authentic Mexican restaurant - they had chiles en nogada as a September special to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. We also ordered the chile fundido which was delicious, one of the best I've ever tried. We also ordered the ceviche, another special, which was fresh, citrusy, and delicious. Fantastic experience. Felix was an excellent server. We had the potato flautas, guacamole with chips, the full line up of salsas, the Comedor salad, and several tacos. Loved all of it. Spicy Paloma was delicious. The jamaica was reminiscent of a homemade batch. We were lucky enough to watch a bride and groom greet their family for an afternoon post ceremony brunch. This is an honest review regarding only service because we didn't even get to try their food. We're both Mexican-American and wanted to support a local Mexican restaurant. I'm currently pregnant and was starving when we got there. I was a server for 5 years, so I get it and give restaurants the benefit of the doubt. We arrived morning of 6/23/24, were greeted right away, and sat at the right table in front of the windows (literally in front of the restaurant). There were only two other tables who were finishing up their food, and at least five workers walking around. A party of two showed up, a party of six showed up, and finally another party of two showed up. Mind you, we are still waiting to get greeted by our server. The other parties got their drink order taken and were having their food order taken. Our server walked towards us and then turned around to get the bill from her other table. I distinctly heard another lady say "faltan ellos" which means "they are missing" in regards to our table, our server looked at us and turned around to her other table. We got up to leave, our server walked towards us, noticed we were leaving and said "oh" and then cleaned up our plates and utensils. Not even an apology, just "oh". These servers appeared to be rude (no smiles), unorganized (walking around, going to the wrong table with drinks), and just not a welcoming environment. It's a complete shame. It was our first time in Santa Bárbara and we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and baby moon. Fortunately, they have plenty of other restaurants around the area to try :) read more

As a person who has had lots of home cooked Mexican food, personally it's not as good as your mama makes it but I think that's often expected when you go out for Mexican. Despite making a reservation, our table wasn't available for 30 minutes. The table next to us didn't get their appetizer until they were done eating, and therefore had to get it boxed immediately. A waiter mistakenly gave us two dishes, and after correcting him, he didn't know whose dishes they were. The service was slow, confusing, and disorganized. We found this little gem while visiting from out of town. Coming here for breakfast was such a great idea. Apparently, the place is pretty new (4 months or so). It's very nice and clean inside, with great decor. The service is great, everyone is friendly. I had the enfrijoladas and they were delicious. Nearly 20 minutes after we ordered our food the server informed us that two of the dishes we had ordered were out of stock. We then had to wait an additional 40 minutes to be served our food and even then, they had forgotten bring out the appetizer we had ordered (which we ended up cancelling). The food and drinks themselves were delicious (even after we had to reorder half of our meal). As a newer restaurant I absolutely understand that they have yet to find their footing but look forward to coming back in a few months and seeing if there is any improvement in their customer service. read more

Hands down the best customer service from any restaurant I've ever been to. Female Manager?? Hostess, today Feb. 10, around 6ish, sorry I didn't catch her name, this woman was exceptional she definitely makes the place flow. She was everywhere, from greeting customers, explaining the menu and how the seating works, from cleaning tables, delegating here and there. They just worked so well together and busting their asses. Ok front/back house, hands down yall had a great team today! We ordered the totopos,4 quisados--cochinito pibil,champenoñones chipotle, rajas, y bistec, out of all we really enjoyed the cochinito and mushrooms in chipotle. I ordered Todos Santos, shrimp tender with rajas, in a sauce. I wasn't a fan of the cabbage and nopales side, it just had a weird after taste not sure what it was, but I didn't like it. Doesn't matter. the place gets 5 stars. Definitely come down, it's worth the wait and the drive. We will be back soon! read more

I've been following Chef Ramon's career since the Three Pickles popup series. Corazon in the SB Public Market is our go to restaurant whenever we are downtown and when guests are visiting. So of course, when Comedor opened, I had to go. I've been three times now and think I have a pretty good idea of the experience. First of, not surprisingly the food is great It's similar to Cocina but also distinctly different. It was advertised as family or homecooking - which doesn't really say much. What I will say is that you can expect everything to be very wet (or moist or soupy, however you want to call it). Now this isn't super surprising if you are ordering a dish like enchiladas or chiliqules but is surprising when you are ordering something like flautas or quesadillas that are deep fried. This is really not the fault of the restaurant. It took me three visits to understand everything revolves around "guiso" which means braised. So every single dish, even if it started out grilled, crispy, or fried, will become soggy as it's served in a pool of sauce. Just keep that in mind when you decide between Cocina or Comedor. The real issue I think I have with both locations is how incredibly slow the ordering process is. These problems I am about to describe exist at Cocina as well but some Comedor is newer and has (what I think to be) a much more confusing menu, each customer takes 3-4 minutes to order. The staff doesn't help the situation, and in fact slows it down. Most of the time, it's one person behind the counter who needs to act as a order taker, translator, verifyer and bartender; stopping the ordering process to make drinks by hand. On a visit before a show at the Granada, we got in line at 6:16 PM and finished paying at 6:44 PM. Nearly 30 minutes to place an order. During that night, the restaurant was so busy but the staff were proactive in some ways. For example, a manager went through the line and assigned seats to people. They also put out water at each seat. But despite having our seats 30 minutes before ordering, we had to ask for our totopos and for the salsa platter. In the previous two visits, they were much more on it. So my conclusion is this - go to Comedor for delicious Mexican braised dishes swimming in sauce but don't show up hungry or on a schedule. Even if you are 100% ready with your order and all possible questions, you're going to be at the mercy of other customers and staff. read more

Sopecitos were lots of fun and we didn't take a pic of the Queso we got but it was probably the favorite part of the meal.
