High protein bowl - carne asada and al pastor
    Pierre C.

Ordered a high protein bowl and it was delicious. Had a split of carne asada and al pastor. The would say my favorite was the Al pastor bc of the mix of the sweet pineapple and savory meat. There was plenty in n my plate and I got full halfway through. Definitely could be shared, but why would you want to? lol the beans could be just a tiny bit less salty, but beyond that a great meal! Thank you for the delicious food and tasty salsas!

Never been here before, but I just saw some people raved about their food. Their food is a beautiful presentation. Much better than a lot of other Mexican places they're ambience is great withdrew it to me. Was the the Muto papier-mâché figure outside I've been wanting to try this place but never have money. I would say as far as the salt go the red sauce is good if you don't like hot stuff, they're salsa. Verde is really good too. Their menu has really good options for food depending on what you like.

Casa Comal was yummy. The tacos were delicious but a little pricey. The service was great and I went a little early but there was music and good vibes at the restaurant!

    Taco nopales

We went on a Tuesday for lunch. We were the only customers there, but for some reason the service was extremely slow. The waitress was very nice. There only appeared to be one cook. Each item came out individually as if the chef was making each plate one by one. It took 45 minutes from the drinks arriving until our last dish arrived. The portions were small. The food was bland. Presentation of food was good. Nice outdoor patio on State Street.

A must-visit spot for Mexican cuisine on State Street in Santa Barbara! We tried four tacos--shrimp, chorizo, birria, and norteño--and the shrimp taco was easily one of the best in the area. The margaritas were perfection--flavorful and strong enough for a nice buzz. The service was prompt and welcoming. The cozy outdoor seating added to the experience, and the complimentary chips with creamy, spicy green salsa were the perfect start.

Amazing tacos with flavorful meats and handmade tortillas! I tried the Al pastor and quesabirria with the two taco combo, which was a great deal. The rice it came with was delicious with a sort of creamy consistency and I got lemonade agua fresca which was nice and refreshing!

    Chicken tinga protein bowl
    David L.

Their chicken tinga protein bowl is so flavorful. I've also had their lemon chicken bowl which is also good but the tinga is mouth watering. Ask for the side of spicy salsa.

A two taco combo is about $15. But they forgot my extra mole taco

If you're looking for a spot this summer with all the vibes, killer margaritas, and delicious food,…read morelook no further than Santo Mezcal in Santa Barbara. My bestie (and yelp elite) Imo brought me here for a girls day after raving about it for months, and now I completely understand the hype. We grabbed seats at the bar (which is honestly the place to be, especially since this spot gets busy on the weekends). Hint hint: make a reservation or get here early. But overall the bar was the perfect place to people watch and to catch up. When it comes to service, impeccable. Despite being busy everyone was attentive and the drinks/food were well placed despite it being a full house. And can we talk about the bartenders? They were so welcoming and even let us film while they worked their magic making cocktails. Watching them crank out cocktails with so much flair was half the entertainment and they couldn't have been nicer. Service was definitely a 10/10. We enjoyed a few margaritas but my favorite was definitely the Hibiscus Margarita. It wasn't overly sweet and was just refreshing. I also had the tamarind Marg which was good too. Extensive cocktail menu and mezcal if you like it. The food absolutely lived up to the drinks. Santo Mezcal takes classic Mexican flavors and gives them a slightly elevated twist while still keeping everything comforting and approachable. My friend couldn't stop talking about her Pork Belly Tacos and I fell in love with the Shrimp Enchiladas. They were loaded with fresh shrimp and covered in the most incredible creamy chipotle sauce (same as their sister restaurant Los agaves for reference). Definitely one of my favorite enchiladas around, 10/10 also. One thing I wasn't expecting is that their chips and salsa might be some of the best I've had. The tortilla chips were fresh, warm, perfectly salted, and paired with a salsa so good I probably ate two bowls before our food even arrived. Honestly, you could sit at the bar with a basket of chips, salsa, and margaritas for hours and be completely happy. Make sure you don't pass up on the chips and salsa. As noted, this is a more elevated Mexican restaurant so prices are slightly more $$$ but you get what you pay for. Just worth noting because if you equate good Mexican food being $2 tacos and a bucket of beer, this spot won't do it for you. But if you want something for more of a special occasion where the food, vibes and service are A+ then this spot is for you.

Los Agaves On De Lavina St. -- A Rare Review from Someone Who Hates Writing Reviews…read moreI spent 25 years owning a business. I know what good service looks like, and I know what entitled looks like. I never write reviews -- I watched Yelp destroy good people over bad nights, and I swore I'd stay out of it. Tonight changed that. I sat at the bar. It took the bartender over five minutes to acknowledge I existed. Another five to ten to deliver a Coke. I ordered dinner and waited forty minutes -- which I might have forgiven, except getting his attention was nearly impossible the entire night. No eye contact. Body language that made clear I was an inconvenience, not a guest. Every interaction felt like I was interrupting something more important. When I finally got him to check on my order, he went to the computer and discovered he'd never placed it. I walked out. I noticed the people around me weren't faring much better. The slowness wasn't just my experience -- it was the room. Los Agaves appears to be a popular place, and maybe on another night with another bartender it earns that reputation. But entitlement has a way of spreading when nobody checks it. I hope management is paying attention -- because a beautiful restaurant dies one invisible guest at a time.

I love pozole - Cc's rendition is top notch and comes with all the extras to put in the soup including avocado, chopped onion, a whole fried tortilla to break up into the broth and Mexican oregano (the small is more than enough for one hungry person or to share with two).Homemade chips come with a four salsa selection ranging substantially hot to a delicate tomatillo green. I tried my tablemate's tacos, all three varieties were very very good. This is a Michelin-recognized spot in 2021 and I came in with pretty high expectations. Unfortunately, the seasonal fish ceviche was a major letdown. The albacore tasted overly fishy and had a stringy texture. The combination of watermelon, cucumber, and avocado was creative and refreshing, but the fish itself was disappointing. We ended up picking around it and eventually threw away all of the albacore because we didn't feel comfortable eating it. Thankfully, the tacos were a completely different story. We ordered the skirt steak taco and the octopus taco, and both were fantastic. Great flavor, well-balanced, and easily the highlight of the meal. The other downside was the service. The guy taking the order was dismissive and turned away when we told him about the quality of their fish in their ceviche. Between the disappointing ceviche and lackluster service, it was the tacos that were the saving grace.

That said, the service experience really brought things down. We arrived at 3:00 for our reservation but weren't seated until 3:20. Once we were seated, it took a while to get settled -- some guests in our own party were slow to get moving and had clearly had a lot to drink, so there was a strong smell of alcohol at our table for a bit, which added to the chaos of getting everyone situated. On top of that, the staff seemed overwhelmed the whole time. There was a fiesta event going on, so the whole restaurant was using plastic cups instead of glassware, which felt a little unfestive for a place at this price point. The music was also very loud, which made it even harder to flag anyone down for service. Despite it being clear the staff were short-staffed and stretched thin, no one offered any acknowledgment, apology, or gesture of care for the wait or the overall experience. The food quality (minus the steak) makes me want to come back, but the service needs real improvement, especially during busy events. The steak in particular didn't match its price -- it tasted more like a $35 steak than what we were charged.
