Ordered a high protein bowl and it was delicious. Had a split of carne asada and al pastor. The would say my favorite was the Al pastor bc of the mix of the sweet pineapple and savory meat. Casa Comal is located among lots of other eateries on State St. It's a small place with an open kitchen and both indoor and outdoor seating. My friend and I came in around 4pm on a Friday and after each ordering a taco combo plate, our server returned to our table to let us know that their rice wasn't cooked yet, offering us a side of chips and guacamole instead, which we accepted. The guacamole was fresh and the salsa was tasty. I went with a Taco Sonora, prime steak with a cheese-stuffed Anaheim pepper, and a Quesa-birria Taco. The Taco Sonora was lacking some seasoning, the Quesa-birria was tiny and not served with any consumé for dipping, and the refried beans seemed like they had been sitting out for a while. The plate didn't feel like it warranted the $19 price tag. We had to request salsa which took a while to come out and our server didn't seem quite sure if they even had any. As the only ones dining in, she also left us to wait quit a while for anything we needed. Compared to the myriad of Mexican food options in Santa Barbara, this one was lacking. read more

Each item came out individually as if the chef was making each plate one by one. It took 45 minutes from the drinks arriving until our last dish arrived. The portions were small. The food was bland. Horrible! The guac was soupy and bland. I ordered a veggie burritto and it was like brown slop. There was no sour cream or guac as advertised, unless they mix it in with everything else and then it's indistinguishable . It was also incredibly slow to get our meals and everything came out at different times so two people were done eating by the time the other meals came out. Amazing tacos with flavorful meats and handmade tortillas! I tried the Al pastor and quesabirria with the two taco combo, which was a great deal. The rice it came with was delicious with a sort of creamy consistency and I got lemonade agua fresca which was nice and refreshing! read more

Definitely would not recommend this place. Charred carne asada tacos that tasted like crunchy rocks lol. The lengua tacos tasted more like pulled pork in a taco. Margaritas that tasted like they came from a pre-mixed bottle where they barely put any alcohol in it. There was almost no ice in my glass once served and it was warm. While I paid for an extra taco, (mole chicken) which they forgot not give it to me, I'm still giving 5 stars because the tacos are excellent! Ordered three two taco combos (plus an extra because I love mole). The beef tacos are shredded beef and a large portion. The horchata is good, the refried beans nice and smooth. The rice is good. Maybe a little salty bit still very good. The cashier was a very sweet lady who doesn't speak English, but I got to practice my Spanish! read more

The customer service was awesome--seriously, the guy who took my order was so nice and didn't make me feel weird at all when I asked for the Calabacitas con Elote without cheese (so basically just zucchini in a tortilla). I really appreciated that! The food was amazing. The margarita was delicious, and the tacos were my favorite! I got the Toca Norteño, Baja Fish Taco, and the Calabacitas con Elote, and they were all so good. But the green salsa? Oh my gosh, it was incredible! I wish they sold it by the bottle because I would've bought a ton of it. Honestly, my only regret is not taking pictures and not buying extra food to take home. First time visitation. Upon first glance, it looks like a fast food joint. Whether it is or not, the food is absolutely delicious. My wife enjoyed the taco norteña, carne asada and deejed it super delicious. The small bites let me have, makes me agree. I had the taco queso birria. Super flavorful! My wife agreed with that. We each stopped at one taco with the idea that we try some different things. We're going to walk for a bit to get some exercise, but I don't think we're done eating. We might Circle back. We got chips with salsa and beans while we were waiting for our tacos. We got the shrimp, octopus, carne asada, and pork tacos. Everything was delicious. Excellent quality. The prices were great and affordable. They have a great taco Tuesday deal as well. 2 tacos and a beer for $11.00 For parking, it is best to park in the Cota parking lot. Tacos are like $5.75 each and you'll probably want three (they're bigger than street tacos but not huge). I got the mole, the norteño, and the calabacita. Tortillas were thick and handmade, in white or blue corn. Flavors were good but less intense than I expected. There are shareable apps and stuff available too. While it's good, I wouldn't go out of my way to visit here like I would Corazon Cocina, but it's right in the heart of the action on State Street, and you could do worse (koff koff, Hana Kitchen, koff). read more

I was pleasantly surprised with this find for dinner while I was in Santa Barbara on a day trip. I wanted to originally eat at the Palace Grill but they unfortunately did not have outdoor seating that evening (which by the way is very odd considering sooo many restaurants in SB has outdoor seating). It got good reviews on yelp so decided to give it a whirl. You order at the register- I got the octopus and Al pastor tacos and an horchata. The food came out fairly quickly and it was fresh and hot- I really loved the tortilla as well as how tender the octopus was (you know that's a good sign). However I still didn't get my horchata which I thought was odd since I'm sure it's already pre-mixed...that's the reason why I took off a star because of the service. The guy at the register was solo but when I ordered, it was just myself, some old dude that was already eating and a lady who ordered takeout. Not sure why that would be confusing or hectic for someone, but I asked him if I can get some water when my food arrived- never got that. And then I had to ask him about my horchata which finally came because I had asked, after I ate most of my food...a bit slow service which is unfortunate! Perhaps they need one more server to assist during dinner time?? Aside from the slow service, I thought the food was pretty good and it tasted fresh- my tab came out to about $20 for everything including tip. I was surprisingly pretty full after too which is unusual for me since I get the munchies a few hours later. I would definitely recommend this place! read more

I was excited to try this place out because of the positive reviews but my tastebuds were left disappointed. The food that I ordered lacked flavor and salt. The food was just bland. I ordered the tinga tostada and Birria tacos with the consume. I has originally ordered the shrimp empanadas but they were out. Birria and tinga are known for having explosions of flavors, these plates here did not. The salsas that they provide lacked spiced. The food overall lacked flavor and presentation, as well it was cold. The tostada was overpriced for what it was. The Birria tacos I have had better, only positive is that the consume's portion serving was generous. I will probably try it again, but I expect explosion of flavors especially when it comes to Mexican cuisine. read more
