Step back in time while visiting the oldest hotel in Arizona! Rich with mining town history and funky art vibes! This hotel is an experience to put on the list. It's right in the middle of the town so walking to coffee, shops, eats and the mine tour is very convenient. We had two sets of guests; one in the second floor above the bar that wasn't as nice as the more quiet and spacious 4th floor room we had. There were a few things we saw that needed attention, but for a small town & last minute booking, it wasn't a deal breaker. The room was comfortable and simple, beds on the 4th floor were nice for the night. I recommend exploring all the floors to see the pool, balcony and sitting parlors that are historically decorated. The restaurant was closed during dinner, but the bar was open - although it was too crowded for our family & party of 6. The continental breakfast is served in the restaurant week day mornings; simple coffee, yogurt and English muffins. Check in to obtain "real keys," is easy. The town of Bisbee itself is bustling with tourism right now, but the small city seems to have been hit hard with pandemic struggles, as many places I visited just two years ago are now closed. Tid bits: There are going to be things in a century old rural area hotel that are not like staying in a new updated hotel. The elevator in the Copper Queen Hotel has been taken out of service and this fact is not well known without a detailed search of booking site reviews. The hotel's lack of transparency in this regard is troubling and probably an ADA violation. Additionally dining service was lengthy and tedious (1 1/2 hour wait for dinner). Desk staff on the evening shift were inhospitable to say the least. This is so disappointing as we have been guests many times over the years - and to see the quality of this unique property decline is sad. read more

I stayed there with my boyfriend in November and the heater/air conditioner window unit kept switching from warm to freezing the entire night! I was rubbing my legs together so hard in bed, trying to create friction to get warm ,that I ended up pulling a hamstring, SERIOUSLY! Recently stayed a night at the CQ hotel, believing it was an upscale historic hotel. It is old, for sure! First, a couple of safety concerns: No phone in the room. No desk clerk after 11 pm. If there is a fire in the hotel, how do they notify the guests? Water from the faucet was dangerously hot and the faucet took two hands and quite a struggle to turn on and off and adjust the temperature. Our room had 2 nightstands and a queen bed (original mattress?). No chairs. I asked a young man working on a room down the hall for chairs. He had to call and get permission from a boss - involving a very long call probably discussing his next work schedule, while I waited for an answer. He was able to get me 2 folding chairs. Classy! Trudged downstairs to the desk to inquire about bottled water. None. Even Motel 6 gives bottled water! One hangar in the closet. Trudged back downstairs to ask for more hangars. Desk clerk (with a face full of shrapnel and an attitude) grudgingly brought two more. I pointed out that the dogs across and down the hall were barking and she claimed not to hear them, rather than dealing with the owners. A small window unit provided the only heat and drowned out the TV every time it came on - at least every-other minute. The TV remote barely worked. No wash cloths in the bathroom. The floor and walls at the trim were dirty. The shower was dirty. The window in the bathroom was cracked and leaking very cold air. No clock. Cracks, peeling paint, dirt everywhere. Icing on the cake came the following morning when we tried to eat breakfast in the dining room. No menu to view outside. No hostess. We asked the people seated inside if they had been given a menu. They had, had ordered and were waiting a very long time for their food. We sat at a table. A waitress (very nice, by the way) came and told us to "sit anywhere", brought us coffee, took our order. She returned later to inform us that -even though she had taken our order for eggs, they in fact had NO eggs. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN COPPER QUEEN HOTEL. The Copper Queen Hotel is a stunning landmark and a trip back in time. We loved everything about our stay: the room, the staff, the lobby, the food... all excellent. We are paranormal investigators and we requested the most "active" room in the hotel. Crissy, the manager, promptly gave us room 415 (Billy's Room). After a wonderful conversation, she also offered to let us investigate room 315 (Julia Lowell's Room). Both locations have a tragic history as well as reputations for hauntings. These rooms did not disappoint! We experienced activity big time. We ate dinner in the bar- one of the best French dips I've ever had. And breakfast in the restaurant, also tasty. The decor is art nouveau all the way, and gorgeous. The staff- from the front desk to the servers- were wonderful and friendly. The rooms are clean, and although modernized, have kept their Old West originality. We highly recommend booking some nights here. We will be back! read more

Honestly this place doesn't even deserve one star. Stayed at the copper queen hotel for 3 nights, at no time did we receive any type of maid service. We had to hunt down the maid to get towels and toilet paper. Garbage cans were full and never emptied. Their so call restaurant is usually closed and if you want to talk to someone at the front desk, you won't find anyone there because they are usually out on the patio socializing and smoking. The place is filthy, unkept and honestly disgusting. I stayed here 30 years ago and absolutely loved it. The staff were amazing and very attentive, they took pride in the hotel and it showed. Sad to see this grand Hotel turn to absolute Sh;@,t. We paid $100 a night, for what? They couldn't even offer a continental breakfast, or perhaps even a cup of coffee. Upon check in they could not find our 2 night reservation and blamed us for booking it through booking.com. Seriously?! But they had availability so gave us a room. The room however was in rough shape to say the least with blood dried on the walls!! We asked them to clean the blood but they did not. The next morning we asked the front desk if we could leave instead of staying the second night due to the room condition and they agreed and said we would be refunded for the night we did not stay. They NEVER refunded us and NEVER returned my calls to find out where our refund was. This hotel is run by thieves!! Wow. Just wow. No working tv. Horrible non-committal wifi. Internet was described as "wonky" by the hotel staff. Spot on. No hot water and no working bathtub drain stopper. I stuffed a towel down the drain so I could take a lukewarm bath. The toilet handle felt like it could break at any moment. Towels were at one time white, I imagine. It's an old hotel, yes, but I've stayed in other old hotels with less issues. I'm going to say hard pass. read more

My friend and I wanted a little get away. We had booked a room for March 10-11 we had checked in after 3, and around 4 we spent the day exploring Bisbee. We finally returned to the room after midnight. At around 4am? We wake up to a bunch of noises, and a really strong smell. I see fire trucks and ambulance outside. Didn't think much. And it wasn't until some girl down the hall knocks on a door and says they are wanting us to evacuate. My friend and I didn't get out of the building until 5.. as we walk down firemen are walking around the building. If it wasn't for me hearing the girl down the hall we would have still been in the room. No employee was around or informed. We sat in our car until 7 so we can retrieve our stuff from the room. We had plans and tickets to things in town. We waited for someone to show up they had no clue what had happened. We were over our trip and they said we could go back to sleep to be told to leave by 11..it was unsettling and uncomfortable, that smell was lingering and we couldn't take it anymore. Apparently what firemen said, they couldn't find anything and they think that a skunk got into the vents. Southwest gas did show up, so gas was cut through the whole hotel. They said they would contact my friend that day. Never heard from them she kept calling the hotel, and they purposely weren't answering calls because of the issue. And said we probably wouldn't get our money back. We only slept maybe 3 hours? Just so over our trip we canceled our tickets to tours and such and headed back home. When staff started showing up by 7, they were like oh whatever and not concerned with what had happened at all. It was very frustrating how staff treated guests! Do better! The fact that they are dismissive of the situation is pathetic! To add to it, the toilet was disgusting! And the tub was pretty dirty. Everyone should be issued a refund. Everyone just sitting at the little park or on the wall. They need better management and staff! Save your money and go to a different hotel. We had stayed at La More previously. ROOF LEAKED GREY WATER FROM ROOM ABOVE ON TO BED and was offer a $20 compensation 36 hours after leaving. At 2:18 am the roof began to leak, I called the front desk as soon as it happened, but no one answer or called me back. In the morning I went to the front desk showed them the video and all the staff was appalled. They barely apologized, and would not give me the management number to contact regarding the matter. Gone are the days of warm cookies and warm reception, dark ambiance and dark ghost stories. Unfortunately, the only thing ghastly is the current state of this hotel. Mr P and I have been patronizing the Copper Queen hotel for almost 20 years. We would come several times a year, especially on anniversaries and birthdays, where the staff would remember and slip surprise wine and snacks into our wonderfully manicured guest room. Those days have long since passed. The hotel is in a horrible state of disrepair, and it makes us very sad. We booked a King Special ($190/nt). The website, however, was not working and we had to use a third party website to book. Staff is very strict about check in prior to 3pm. There was a woman who was in some sort of accident, was tired and bloodied, requesting a room, since her companion was rushed to the hospital. They would not budge and give her a room prior to 3pm. Seems a little bit unsympathetic. We checked in a few minutes after 3. We were asked to wait so that they could make sure the room was ready. As the two desk staff laughed and chatted, turns out one of them was supposed to be the one checking! When we had initially tried to go in the hotel prior to 3:00 p.m., we found that the door was locked and had a keypad on the outside. We went in through a door in the bar to the front desk, where there was no one. So they just don't man the desk and then lock the doors so no one can come in. I don't understand it. We finally get in to the JA Jance room around 3:30. It is a refrigerator in there. Thanks for turning on the heat! Speaking of refrigerators, the small one in the room turned everything to ice cubes. The bed frame wheels were actively falling off. We would lie down and hear random thuds on the floor. There were holes in all the sheets and stains on all the towels. There was a hole in the wall that was stuffed with tissue, and leak holes and bubbles in the ceiling. The shower door was filled with mold, and all the furniture and carpets throughout the hotel were stained. I'm fairly certain that the blue vanity soap was the very same body wash and shampoo in the moldy shower. The staff did a whole lot of chatting at a very loud level with a lot of cuss words. I don't know that I needed to hear the very loud discussion about who was a worse character, Johnny or Daniel LaRusso. (The answer is Terry Silver). The Spirit Room restaurant was never open during our entire stay, not even for the promised continental breakfast. I'm not quite sure what amenities you pay for. The room rate was indicative of a luxury room. For $190/nt, you'd better guarantee that a ghost serves me breakfast with a serenade in the morning, given the state of the room. Speaking of restaurants and loud noise levels, if you want any semblance of quiet, do not stay in the JA Jance room. This room happened to be right over the bar, where we endured hours upon hours of loud bass and noise from the band. Pretty much everything rattled. Each floor has a shared common area. It appeared that the second floor had the wood floors resurfaced, but that's probably about it for renovation. The Christmas tree by the fireplace was actually done up very nicely. But everywhere else was really run down. There was a beautiful wood-framed velvet sofa that had stains that were either blood or juice, and I'd prefer not to know which. Surfaces were dusty. Carpets weren't vacuumed. Bisbee is one of our favorite places to be. It's really a shame that the proprietors of the Copper Queen Hotel have let it degrade into such shambles. It should be a historically relevant place that is kept looking as beautiful as it once was. read more

My friend and I booked this hotel for one night, March 10th-11th. We checked in after 3pm and left the hotel for the rest of the day until about 2am. When we got back to the hotel, it smelled like burning rubber. We couldn't sleep because it smelled so bad. We heard people running through the halls, rattling our room door, and yelling. Finally we opened our door and realized that we were being evacuated by the fire department. We spent the entire night in my car with all of our belongings that now smelled disgusting. The fire department and gas company spent all night and morning looking for the cause of smell in the hotel. Around 7am they decided a skunk was the cause. Our whole night was ruined, we hadn't slept at all, and decided to cancel our plans for the day due to exhaustion. The hotel refused to refund our one night stay claiming that it was not their fault any of this had occurred. Hotel staff admitted to purposely not answering phone calls because they knew people were calling about refunds. And the manager I spoke to on the phone let me know there was nothing I could do about getting a refund for my stay. I have never experienced such unprofessionalism from any hotel I've stayed at before. They want to keep my money for the three hours I spent in their nasty establishment. Our bathroom had hair all over the floor, the toilet was brown, and the tub had stains from peoples' dirty feet. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere! I don't know if this hotel has ghosts, but I do know that it doesn't have water pressure! We stayed in one of the rooms that is famous for being haunted. Nothing happened in that regard. Trying to take a shower was hard. We were not able to wash our hair due to the water pressure being so low it would be impossible to rinse shampoo out. The toilet wouldn't flush right away, you would try to flush, it would make noise, and nothing would really happen. I wouldn't stay here again, but I would possibly visit the bar area. read more

Where do I start.... I booked through expedia and need to cancel my reservation due to my wife getting sick. Based on the confirmation email from expedia (hotels.com) I called the number to speak directly with the hotel at 520-432-2216. Despite calling three times, leaving two voicemails because no one answered, I never rec'd a callback. I then contacted hotels.com directly and asked that they cancel and after trying they informed me they could not get in touch with the hotel either. I next called the number for new reservations (888-898-3299) and was hung up on. Once calling back I finally reached someone that told me the number I was calling was incorrect. I should be calling, instead, 520-432-3819. Now, when trying to reach that number I get a recording stating that the verizon call cannot be completed as dialed! read more

One star is giving this establishment too much praise. I booked two rooms for my daughter's 16th birthday last summer as she's always wanted to spend the night in this Arizona landmark hotel. Unfortunately, my plans changed and I canceled my reservations six weeks in advance. When I checked my credit card mid October, I was still charged for the two rooms. I figured it would be no big deal if I called and spoke with the management and we could resolve the issue. It's been two months now and multiple phone calls......to no avail. I requested to speak with the general manager, Tyler, and every time I called, I was told he would call me back as soon as possible. I have yet to hear back from Tyler or anyone in management. In fact, I just called and was told I will not be seeing any credit issued and that there has been no record of me calling over the past two months. It's sad that any establishment in the customer service industry operates at this level and to say I am disappointed as a severe understatement. This issue has been grossly mishandled and it appears my only course of action is to come here and post a warning to everyone who is looking to do business with the Copper Queen Hotel. In the process, I've read the reviews from others, and it looks like this hotel is being run into the ground. Between the deplorable filth throughout this hotel and the atrocious customer service, the Copper Queen has seen better days. This place is literally being run into the ground. I know I will never visit this establishment again and will go out of my way to warn others of how management at this facility chooses to conduct business. Couldn't go swimming. Then the Wi-Fi was out so no tv. Mentioned it to the desk, The girl tried to fix it. But no. Mention it when I checked out "oh the guy's here to fix it now haha". The only thing spooky about this hotel is the uncleanliness I stayed 1 night here and will not be returning. I had no complaints about the price until I saw the quality of the room. It was disgusting. For starters, the room smells weird and we had to wear shoes in our room just because the floor was so filthy. There was dust and dirt in ever crevice in the room and bathroom. The sheets had hair and lashes etc on them. The pillows had several stains. Our shower curtain had something disgusting on them as well (pictured.) I'm honestly nervous that I am going to take home bed bugs. It is so gross. The staff was nice but clearly not nice enough to clean in between guests. I really would not recommend staying here. I did not enjoy it and now I feel as if I need a shower lol. It is a beautiful historic hotel but a simple tour would have pleased me, staying here is just gross. Very poor customer service experience at the bar on Sunday 12/27/2020. There was only one bartender present and she handled herself in an unprofessional manner. Complaining about the customers coming in, venting to myself and my wife about other customers, rude, and it just ruined our experience because we felt really uncomfortable and unwelcome. What did I learn from staying at the Copper Queen Hotel? I learned the term "historic" is a euphemism for old and run-down. Was it worth the $110 we paid for a closet sized room and a moldy shower? That's debatable. The pictures attached to this review show the deplorable conditions in the room and shower. The wooden side table with the cigarette is the veranda if you want to sit outside by the swimming pool My recommendation? Find any other hotel in Bisbee. We have bern visiting bisbee and the Copper Queen Hotel for 23 years, now when we come there is no one that answers the phone at the front desk so when we call to see if their restaurant, "The Spirit Room " is open for dinner (everywhere on the internet it says its open) no one answers the phone, there are limited restaurants open here so if your from out if town you can get kinda hungry. I went down there to the hotel since no one picks up the phone, i told them that everywhere on the internet it says your open, they acted surprised. All i can say is people will stop visiting when there are no amenities, this town could be flush with money but no one seems to want to work. read more

We drove from Scottsdale to Bisbee for a Wedding. When checking in @ 3:00 PM. The staff was unfriendly and unprofessional. We dropped our luggage and went to the wedding. Got back to our room around Midnight, and the odor in the room was unbearable. It was some sort of Air Freshener covering up some other type of odor. My wife has Asthma and was not able to breathe while in the room. The only window in the room would not open due to the Air-conditioning unit in the Window being screwed into the frame. We tried the air conditioning to see if that would improve the air quality. After about 2 1/2 hours we had no choice but to leave the room Of course there was no one at the front desk, so we dropped the key in the key drop box and left to stay with some friends that happened to be in town as well. When our situation was brought to the attention of the Hotel, we were told there would be no refund, and that my wife's health issue was not their problem. They did offer a one-night stay in their best room midweek, but there is no chance we would ever go back to this Hotel. read more

We stayed at the Copper Queen and had a great experience. There was a little glitch at check in and Chrissy provided the absolutely, most amazing, customer service. She was so helpful and she really cared about making sure everything worked out..which it did. With Chrissy in charge, I had no doubt it would. She was just the BEST. And she has the cutest dog! We spent a fair amount of time at the Saloon and the bartender and "doer of all things", Robert (I may have his name wrong due to a fair amount of vodka), was the best. When we got there, he was the only one working the bar and it was busy. He rocked it. He was also working when we had breakfast there on Sunday morning and he entertained us with some great ghost stories. We got to the hotel at 1:30pm only to find a paper sheet taped to the desk saying NO early check in before 3pm. We went to go eat. At 2:30pm I received a notification from the hotel stating my reservation was cancelled due to THIER overbooking!! What kind of service is this?? 30 minutes before?? We call immediately and there is NO answer. Must have tried 10 times. We finish eating and go to the hotel. After a long drawn out excuse...come to find out they KNEW back in August the hotel was ALREADY overbooked for October!!! No communication and NOT the experience we drove 8 hours for!!! read more

Stay elsewhere please. Normally, I don't leave reviews unless the experience was either really good or very poor. The check-in and out processes at this hotel are very problematic and the manager is unbelievably rude. I own several businesses, and if I saw one of my managers talking to clients like he did, he would be terminated immediately. His mannerisms and tone are very passive aggressive, hostile, and condescending. People make or break any business, and this business, if it doesn't find better management will continue to flounder. The property itself is in a great location. The hotel has potential as it is a historical building within walking distance of lots of little shops and restaurants. Even though the room was very dirty (bathroom tub and floor were very dirty, the bathroom light was cracked, the carpet hasn't been changed for about 15-20 years and there was dirt on the walls, light switches, and celling), I wouldn't have cared. But the rudeness of the "manager" was the last straw and prompted me to leave this review. We checked in on Friday. Saturday morning, we got up and left to do some sightseeing. Upon return there was a note on the door. I just grabbed the note and laid it on the nightstand as I assumed it was the check-out paperwork as we were leaving the next morning. My husband and I laid down to take a nap and fell asleep. We were awakened at about 4:30 and it was a young girl who asked, "Didn't you get my note?" I said "Yes, but I didn't open it as I assumed it was our check out paperwork." She explained it was a note asking us to call the front desk because they had no record of us being in the room and didn't know who we were. I immediately tried to call the front desk. I called multiple times. It was busy for 10 minutes straight. Finally, someone answered and immediately put me on hold. I sat on hold for another 10 minutes. Then it sounded like someone answered and the line went dead and was disconnected which was frustrating. I redialed and it was busy again. After about 25 minutes, my husband said, "Forget it, I'll just go back down and talk to them in person." We were on the 4th floor. The hotel has an elevator; however, it wasn't working on multiple occasions when we had gone up and down the stairs because the maids kept blocking it and leaving their carts in there. This wasn't a big deal for us because we are both mobile and have no issues walking up or down stairs. However, if I were elderly, had an injury, etc. it would have been a super big inconvenience because I wouldn't have been able to get a hold of the front desk (since the number was busy for over 25 minutes) or get down using the elevator (a safety issue). My husband went down and had to explain who he was, go over his check-in process again, etc. The manager finally realized that whoever checked us in gave us the wrong room key and listed on their paperwork that we were in a different room. So, the mistake was on their end, but they treated my husband as if he was the one who made the error and seemed offended that my husband didn't offer to move. The manager also explained that they were made aware of the mistake because they gave the same room key to someone else, and those people came down to report there was someone already in the room. So, not only were we woken from a nap, unable to call, unable to use the elevator, treated like we inconvenienced them, but then we were told someone else had been allowed to enter our room (which is another safety/security issue). When we came down for dinner a few hours later, the "manager" said, "Oh yeah, you are the ones that were in the wrong room." My husband then said, "You gave us that room, and I didn't appreciate being woken up from my nap." The manager then responded, "Well we already dealt with that. I am aware you were woken up. We don't need to revisit that again. Mistakes happen." We just let it go and left for dinner. The next morning, we got up and went down to check out. We stood at the check-in counter for about five minutes waiting for someone to return. We knocked at the counter and said, "Anyone there?" Nothing. There's a large metal box next to the check-in window that says, "Key Return". Not wanting to wait any longer, we dropped the key in the box and heard it hit the bottom of the box making a loud clinking sound. We figured it was the only key in the box by the noise it made. About six hours later, my husband got a call from the same unfriendly manager stating that because we had not returned the key, they were charging us $50. We told him we had returned the key and explained we waited there for 5 minutes, and the desk was unattended. He told us they couldn't be at the desk at all times because they had lots of other work to do like cleaning bathrooms. He said they would review the video footage and if they saw us return the key, they would refund the charge. This is a business that does not pay their debts. Additionally, the lobby of the establishment is dirty and dingy. The front desk staff is rude and equally as cheerless and shabby as the dusty decor and soiled carpets. The owner and her family who run the ill-managed hotel are less than honest. If the Copper Queen is the only option available, consider sleeping in your car. read more

Nice hotel in amazing Bisbee. Good location easy walking to many cute shops and restaurants. Only had breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Great deals and good breakfast but had slow service. Waitress was great but breakfast sometime. Nice saloon right in hotel. read more
