Lots of bike trails. Lots of Picnic Tables. Nice playground area. Good washrooms. Good Parking. Lots of trees. Lots of wasp's in late summer. some mosquito's during summer months. There are quite a few business's right in the immediate Scotch Creek area. Nice , big super market. Its easy to find. very family friendly, and flat. However; our experience this time around was frightening due to a new Manager on site. We were a family with 5 sites booked for a family reunion. On Saturday at 9:50pm we were asked to turn our radio off by 10pm. We did turn off the radio and continued to chat around the campfire while some played a card game at the picnic table. There was the odd "cheer" when someone won but otherwise a very quiet, normal evening. There was no constant hooting and hollering, no excessive drinking and no music. At 10:30pm we were approached by Colin (Manager/Security Guard) who said to us "What's it going to take"? Many of us were confused by his question and asked him what he meant? Again Colin said "what's it going to take?" He quickly got irritated when all of us were asking him "what the problem was"? And then he said "you know what I mean, the next person that has to come by here will have a gun!" We were all so shocked... some of us very frightened and looking over our backs walking back to our sites at 11pm and again the next evening. The following day we addressed our concerns with the owner Lisa, she was more concerned that her employee was having a bad night than for our safety. Apparently, Colin had a stalker (unknown women) and the RCMP had to be called in to remove her. After returning home a few of us addressed the problem again with letters to Lisa asking her how she was handling this situation. But unfortunately Lisa only addressed the fact that we were too large a group for her campsite (which was odd because she knew we were all there together for a family reunion more than 5 months in advance) In hindsight this incident should have been reported to RCMP. And because the owner of this campsite has been unwilling to address the severity of a threat from her employee we felt it would be best to make an honest post to warn others and keep people safe.

As it was a long weekend during COVID times, campsites were hard to find, and we were lucky to snag a spot at Ross Creek, near Shuswap Lake. The last time I went camping was nearly 20 years ago, so needless to say, I am not a camper (it didn't even occur to me to bring an air mattress, which is something people do now -- I have never camped with an air mattress, but I had no issue sleeping directly on the ground). I don't *hate* camping, but I can't say I *like* it, the main reason being people -- the people I'm with, and other campers. The last camping trip was with my ex-husband and his friends, and it was an utterly AWFUL experience (long, long story), and while the people I was going with were not an issue this time, I was worried about other campers -- I like peace and quiet, and when camping or spending a day at the lake or beach, there is always at least one asshole who BLASTS their music. Regardless of my previous experiences camping and my (realized) concerns about noisy neighbours, I was excited to go -- it was a mini vacation with people I liked. (Plus I didn't have to set up or take down the tent, or do any cooking.) My husband wasn't too keen on Ross Creek at first, as it was a family campsite with a general store (in addition to being a pretty well stocked grocery store -- they even had Patak's butter chicken sauce -- you could order full breakfasts and meals) and showers and proper toilets, which, in his opinion is "not camping", but it ended up being a pretty decent campsite (my husband went to the general store several times for various items). Despite the campsite being fairly full, it wasn't crowded, and each lot was a fair size -- we had more than enough space for three tents, a truck, and a table (in addition to the picnic table at each site). While it wasn't totally private (each lot wasn't surrounded by trees), it wasn't bad at all (it also helped that one of the lots beside us was empty), and the washrooms and shower stalls were clean (and I appreciated that the shower stalls had hooks and a chair and enough space so that your clothes and towel didn't get wet). Overall, a pretty decent campsite, and the location was fantastic -- right across from Shuswap Lake. However, there were two things I wasn't please about: the noise, and the washrooms/showers being locked up between the hours of about 9pm and 7am. As I had feared, people from other campsites blasted their music (thankfully during the day), and the first night we were there, a house located beside the campsite (and just behind our lot) was having a raging party and blasting their music until midnight. While the campsite can't control noise coming from private property, it was still very fucking annoying, and it would be nice if other campers didn't BLAST music. Regarding the washrooms -- the men's and women's showers/toilets were locked up during the night, and there was ONE handicapped/private toilet open during the night for the entire campsite -- NOT COOL. I guess I should be grateful that the campsite even offered proper toilets and I didn't have to shit in the woods, but ONE toilet for a busy campsite is misleading. That, and the noise, put a sour taste in my mouth. But despite these two major issues, I am still giving the campsite a generous three stars, because I did have fun, and if it were quiet and they didn't lock the toilets during the night (WTF?!), I would probably give Ross Creek four stars. Plus being right across from the lake was awesome.

The campground has a beautiful view of the hills across the lake (beautiful sunsets). The lake is calm and warm most days. Loved the location -- easy 8 minute drive to town to pick up groceries, wine, or just go out for dinner and a movie. I found the campground nice and quiet at night. We will be back next year for sure!

The current new owners are very mean and abusive and controlling. Reservations for a family…read moregathering were made Oct 2014 and I asked for all the costs. A month before they said they were going to charge $10 a head for everyone coming for the hour of the memorial. This was not told before and if it was we could have found a hall for free since my family knows so many kind locals and our family has been living at and going to that campground since the mid '80's. The man (Jiri) told me to call him (I was corresponding via FB messages). I knew how controlling they are so I said no and then the owner contacted my grieving father and told him lies about the conversation making him very upset just weeks before his wife's memorial. Without going into personal details, it was very hard on his emotions and health and we had been trying to keep what he had to do to a minimum. When I got to the campground the owners had given away my cabin reservation and put me in one of the rustic cabins. When I was upset about that they told me to leave 2 hours before the memorial!!!! I had food for feeding my family, it was our first reunion in 20 years and the first time my dad had been with his siblings for over 40 years. These people ruined it (well we still enjoyed seeing each other but the owners made at least 3 of us cry and more upset). In the rustic cabin it was so cold and I had to use a wood fire and almost died in there due to no air. There were no bathrooms and no kitchen.I ended up with bug bites, maybe from the beds. The next day the owners got mad at my brother and family because the dad was sistting on the tramp with his baby and they said only 1 person on the tramp. He was 'sitting' with a baby.They then made them leave at 6pm and there were 2 motorhomes to move somewhere at the last minute. There's more.... but basically, these people made the entire weekend miserable. They only take cash as well, so people had to run into the local store and use the bank machine.
