When we first walked in the restaurant and it was hot and humid, we should have left. Food was bland. Service was terrible. No one had masks on. The waitress handled money and then food without washing her hands and her thumb was in each plate she delivered. Our food was cold because it sat in the window. I give this place 4 stars due to its service. I'm from out of down and was looking for a place that has good beer and a menu that had a good variety of items to satisfy the palate for every level of hunger. While I may agree that some prices for food is too high for what they offer, yesterday I had no problem paying the price for a delicious mushroom burger and choice of made on site potato chips. I came back today to try the lobster mac & cheese and this is where I was disappointed about the price I paid. While delivered to me hot and flavorful, it was lacking in lobster. It was four bites before I got a small chunk about a quarter inch in size. It seemed less than a quarter cup of lobster with a large plate of pasta and cheese. Relaxing atmosphere for a family, group of friends, date night out with the significant other or just sit at the bar and watch sports on the numerous tv screens that are placed around the interior. I had to dwell on the positive parts of our meal for a while in order to bump this up to two stars. We will not be going back. The summary: 3 star burgers, 5 star cheese curds, 1 star service, flawed menu. Highlights * When I asked our server what one of the tap selections was, she explained "It's local," and walked away. Super helpful, that. * I made the mistake of ordering pad thai. It was terrible: watery, bland, undercooked, and imbalanced. I've never had a dish that so obviously should not have made it onto the menu. It was significantly worse than what I'd expect a 24/7 diner to come up with if you were ignorant enough or drunk enough to order it there, and about twice as costly. * Pad thai is apparently a "special case" entree that doesn't actually come with the side salad or fries that the menu indicates it does. This wasn't even pointed out to me when I asked to upgrade my standard fries to truffle parm fries for $1 (using the actual phrase "one dollar upgrade"). The server apparently just assumed I misspoke and wanted a giant side of fries for $6 or whatever it was. * The cheeseburger my girlfriend ordered was fine. I wouldn't call it extraordinary in any way, and I'm fully capable of gushing about great burgers, but it wasn't bad at all. If I were forced to come here again, I'd order a burger of some sort. * The standard fries and truffle parm fries were both fine. * The cheese curds were awesome, even though we had to order them twice to actually get them. These were easily the best part of our experience here. Super crispy breading that was perfectly fried, and super hot, melty cheddar on the inside. * They had Toppling Goliath beer available in 16oz cans, which was a pleasant surprise. A nice little surprise in a very nondescript area of Dubuque. It looks like a 70s Chicago neighborhood pub from the outside but is quite trendy inside. The Scotch Egg is excellent and made me want order a few more. I got the pork tenderloin, my wife got the walnut crusted salmon and my daughter got the cheddar burger. Overall, the food was great and we'd go there again the next time we are in the area. Only downside is that it is a pub style restaurant so the noise level was a tad high, but didn't detract from the quality of the food. read more

Service was unacceptably slow. Food was very good to excellent. Beef dishes were the best of what our group ordered. Hamburger was well done but juicy. I would highly recommend steak bites. They were quite tasty and "melt in your mouth" tender. Caesar salad was delicious, but had peppers and onion which is not standard fare. I enjoyed it, but think the salad should have been named differently. Salmon was not overcooked. Side salad was really good and featured home made dressing. Stopped here on the way to Wisconsin Dells. My party tried the burger off the kids menu, the macaroni and cheese, and the steak tacos. Everyone was very pleased with what they ordered. I also tried the onion rings, which I thought were fantastic. The staff was very attentive. The pricing felt to be just slightly on the high side, but nothing extraordinary. Went here on a Sunday afternoon around 2 PM. Street parking is available all around. The interior is modern and stylish(resembles somewhere you'd see in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago). Everything was very clean and well-kept and there were TVs visible to all tables. There were just a few others eating at the time, so we just picked a table and sat down. There's about 10-12 tables in the main section of the restaurant and then additonal bar seating. The server quickly came over to get our drink order and give us a menu. There's a wide variety of somewhat unique items. Even many mainstay items have unique ingredients. i.e. instead of regular mushrooms, you get crimini mushrooms on the mushroom swiss burger. We ordered a scotch egg for the appetizer and then a mushroom swiss burger with fries and a pulled pork sandwich with homemade chips. The scotch egg arrived piping hot with a nice crisp crust and some really good mustard sauce. The yolk inside was soft and the flavor was awesome. Great job on the scotch egg. Next, the entrees came out and both were awesome. The hand-formed burger was perfectly cooked and was really juicy. The server brought me chips instead of fries, but quickly got me fries (which were also really good) and was apologetic. The pulled pork had strong pork flavor and was not overly drenched in sauce...the BBQ sauce comes on the side and was smokey, tangy and just right,. All in all the food was outstanding and the service was good. Single person bathrooms were perfect and clean. The servers were not very talkative and seemed to be making quite a few small mistakes while we were there, but nothing major. I would think with a bit of training, they could be top-notch. The price for two was $25 (with tax and the appetizer). This is very reasonable for the quality of food. Any pricier and it would turn people off. Next time I'm in the area, I will definitely stop at Copper Kettle to eat and you should too. read more

It needed more vinegar and salt. My daughter's mac and cheese was very bland and floury. The fries were very tasty and so was the roasted chicken. I think thst the tempura veggies we got to start were too greasy. And you were suppose to dip them in mayo based sauces which was just overload. Food has always been good but service.... I'll preface where I was a server for nearly a decade so I do get it that it's frustrating when people sit in your section without turnover. The concession is if there is a hostess and open tables then I don't care. What I don't like is passive aggressive females who can't find a voice asking people to move so do bullshit things like put a reserved sign on the table as a *hint*. Bout as subtle as a heart attack. Next time, how about ask nicely to move to the bar instead of saying "ok, you all need to get out because we need a table". There is no time limit to tables, I suggest you start making one if that's how you're going to play it but as for now, I would recommend customer service training as it teaches you how to find a voice and not being passive aggressive which fails you 9/10. My husband and I were in Dubuque for the day and we're looking for a good lunch. Thanks to Yelp, we found Copper Kettle. At first we weren't sure we found the right place. The outside of the building and sign is a bit nondescript and generic. It reminded me of almost every local dive bar. It just didn't look like the kind of place that would be serving the elevated food I read about in the reviews. Well friends, I judged a book by its cover and I was wrong. The atmosphere was great-- laid back with the bar and many, but not overbearing, large, blaring tvs. Service started a bit slow as we came at the end of the lunch rush, but our server was attentive and made good recommendations. My husband had the kimchi pork belly sandwich which was crispy and not overly spicy. The house made chips were tasty too! I had the pretzel-crusted pork which was very moist and crunchy. I had a side of the Parmesan truffle fries. Amazing! Worth a trip all on their own. We will be back! read more

The appetizers were the star of the show. The scotch egg was cooked perfectly. The cheese balls were fresh and lightly battered, they were not the frozen kind everyone else sells. They were very good. The fish taco (I know this sounds weird) was too fishy. A very strong fish flavor? Not what I expect in a fish taco. The avocado cream sauce on the tacos was good though. The Mac n cheese was tasteless. The chicken strips were good in my opinion, but they were for my 9 yr old. They were breaded in a corn meal batter that was not her favorite. read more

It's clear that the food is solid. I had the Pork Belly sandwich and it was good. My only issue with this hip joint is the beer on tap. Sure, I'm from Wisco and we have all sorts of fantastic options for beer. Potosi (pretty much mass produced light beer) Millerlite and Blue Moon on tap? They have multiple beers in can/bottles - I can by bottled beer at any store, but I can't buy great tap beer at any store.
