I have been going here for 7 years. 5 years before the fire and 2 after. This is where the Italians in the area take their families to dinner. The best place I can compare it to is E&V ( best italian / small restaurant winner in Jersey for the most part of the last 40 years)If you are from North Jersey like me then you know all about that place. At Coppa a family of 4 can have drinks + 3 courses and still be under 100$ for the bill. AND go home with a pound of leftovers. Thats true Italian style. I could give them 5 stars based on 2 dishes. They were pretty impressive. Maybe they deserve it after all there was a blessing from the Pope hanging above the hostess station. We arrived on a Friday evening and entered a noisy dining room. Parking lot was full, but they had a table for us. Thankfully, they led us to the quieter back dining room with a view of the kitchen and the large takeout beer cooler.(I had suddenly developed a raging headache) The menu is large and varied with pizza, sandwiches and pasta dishes. I had been here once before, about 20 years ago. My husband grew up here and I remember having the best Eggplant Parmesan I've ever had. Since then there had been a fire. How could they still have that same dish? They did! I started with the Screpelle Crepe Soup. This is the first time I have ever seen this on a menu, so I had to have it. Our waitress, who seemed to have an Italian accent was describing how she makes it to a neighboring table. Here, it consists of about 5 rolled crepes (I think they are dusted with parmesan before they are rolled and covered in a clear delicate homemade chicken broth). Eavesdropping is not easy. It was so simple and perfect. There are numerous variations. But my first experience was a rare treat. Then there is the eggplant parmesan exactly as I remembered it. It can be served as a side or a meal with pasta and salad. I opted for side. It is simply eggplant sliced as thin as a lasagna noodle, layered and covered in red sauce and mozzarella and baked into perfection. No breading, no frying. My husband had his usual chicken fettuccine alfredo. They didn't have Russian/Thousand Island dressing, so I ended up with his salad with the vinaigrette. It was pretty bland. The rolls were kind of stale accompanied by plastic mini containers of butter. Portions were generous, so we both left with leftovers. Recently dined here based on Yelp reviews. We had the little neck clams for an app followed by pasta primavera and eggplant parmigiana. All excellent and all generous portions. The homemade pasta was spot on. The atmosphere is very family oriented and homey. There seemed to be lots of regulars there ( always a good sign) the service was fast and efficient Some of the servers were obviously young and inexperienced but overall this did not detract from our experience We will be returning here for sure I can't wait to try the pizza! read more

We stopped in for dinner. We were promptly seated by a friendly hostess. The menu is large with many choices. It is almost overwhelming. I chose the baked eggplant and my wife chose the chicken marsala. It server warned us the portions are large. Huge is a better choice of words. My eggplant was great. It was not fried, which i really liked. The sauce was tangy and topped with just the right amount of cheese. I could only eat half of my meal. My wife's entree was also very good. The pasta served with the entree was made from fresh made, not dried. There is a difference and it is worth it. We were not up to having dessert. One thing to note is that this is a cash only restaurant. They do a have a surcharge free ATM inside. There is also a full bar too. Parking is free and plentiful. read more

We have been here a few times and the food is very good, reasonable and service is good. We do like to sit at the bar if it is just the two of us but they have the TV's up so loud you can not have a conversation. The bartender will turn it down but you feel like you are infringing on them. We do not understand the mentality of loud TVs during a meal. read more

We've been here quite a few times. Food, no problem. Decent Italian food. Good meatballs. Gnocchi is extremely good. Service? Tonight. Absolutely horrendous. We got our food. No one returned to see how it was. No refill of my wife's diet coke. Left alone for 20 minutes. Wait. It gets better. Our "waitress" came back to the table behind us 4 times. We were 7 ft away. Maybe because we're over 60? Maybe she was more interested in the two men who were flirting with her? Who knows? But we had to flag her down for the check. We would've had dessert but no way after waiting 10 minutes for the check. So. The check comes and 15 minutes later, I had to go up to the bar and ask for the check only to be reminded that this place ONLY ACCEPTS CASH. What a racket that is. I'm sure the Internal Revenue Department knows about that. Invisible money. It's the money that government never sees. God bless 'em. Now, back to our "waitress". Finally, we paid and realized we could've walked out without paying without anyone knowing. Too bad we know that now because we're never going back. 10% tip. And that is 10% too much. read more

I ordered a Sicilian pizza (square and thick) the other night after work and went to pick it up on my way home only to find out that they made me a round pizza instead. The guy behind the counter made no apologies and made no attempt to rectify the situation. I have been a customer here for years and would order food from here about two night a week on average. I ended up leaving and going to Wawa. A few nights later I called and placed the same order only to be put on hold. A few minutes later the guy who answered the phone came back and told me they were closed for the night. This was at 11:00 pm. They advertise and their take out menu states that they are open until 2 am. When I questioned the guy on the phone I was hung up on. I called back and asked for whoever was in charge. When I told him about the mix up the previous night and asked if they were no longer open late he stared cussing at me in broken English. I will NEVER...EVER order from this place again. The only reason I went there to begin with is because they were open later that any other take out place. If I want pizza that late ever again I'll stop by the grocery store and buy a frozen pizza or I'll just to get a sandwich from Wawa. read more

So my husband and I used to come sit at the bar and the food was pretty good. Our last visit, we took our son and sat at a table. My son and I both got the shrimp scampi. It was watery and oily. You couldn't even taste the garlic and and the shrimp didn't taste fresh. Also, they gave us moldy bread. My husband ordered a Stromboli. Though the size was good, there was literally only a couple pieces of meat it in; it was almost all cheese. Another restaurant off my list. Would love to see a nice Italian restaurant around here somewhere. People need to learn how to cook! Just because your place is busy doesn't mean you have to serve shitty food! read more

This is basic, blah, Italian food that you get anywhere. The restaurant's appearance inside (after the fire) is very nice. Granite table tops and a bit of a rustic Italian feel. There is a large and beautiful partition between the bar area and the tables that looks to be authentic and an antique. Both the hostess and our server easily overheard my comments about how beautiful and unique it was, but neither one offered up any information about it. The menu is standard, boring, uninventive, typical Italian. I was in the mood for some kind of seafood (maybe a piece of fish) but all they appeared to have was calamari (fried - shocking!) and shrimp (doused in alfredo). The specials didn't sound so special either. Oh, well, there's goes eating healthy at this place. I settled on the lasagna. It was good. I've had better. It came with a salad and bread. If there's one thing a restaurant has NO EXCUSE to screw up, it's salad and bread. However, Coppa 82 had awful, freezer-style, throw in the oven to reheat at 350 for 10 minutes, standard diner dinner rolls and the salad was wet greens plopped in a very unappealing wooden, cheap bowl that I had to hang onto the edge of to keep from flipping my salad onto my dining companions. The salad had 4 or 5 slices of cucumber and a very sad-looking tomato sliced into quarters. Oh, and they tossed BAGGED croutons on top for good measure. Yuck. So as I've said, the food was just 'meh'... but what really confirmed me never returning to this restaurant was the attitude I got from the bartender (the owner's daughter??) when I suggested my wine had turned punky. I know wine; I drink a lot of it and I've had all kinds from all over the world. I also know when a wine is bad. When I told the bartender the wine was bad, she told me, "I just opened it." So? And when I asked where it was from she replied, "Italy, where my parents are from." So? Does that mean a wine can't turn just because it was newly opened and from Italy? She looked down her nose at me and with major attitude asked if she should open a different bottle. I hesitated and then said yes. I am Italian myself and I really did want wine with my dinner. I was brought a mere spit of wine in the glass for me to 'check it'. And YEP, the previous, newly-opened wine from Italy where her parents were from had, indeed, turned bad. I highly doubt it was thrown away so I pity the patron who had to endure that punk after me. And finally, I do always scratch my head a little when a business only accepts cash for payment. I do wonder why they don't have a credit card machine and the cynic in me always feels like a business might be trying to cheat the IRS when cash is the only way to pay? Maybe that's just me, but that's how I feel. With so many other really, really delicious and amazing Italian restaurants within minutes of Coppa 82, I can assure you I will never return to this one. read more

This was the 2nd time going to Coppa - the 1st time (mid April) was a group of 8, we had several mix ups on the food, but it was corrected and food was ok. Today we were a party of 7 - wow they have too many rules. No sides of fettuccini - only can have red sauce unless you order a full order, we wanted to order a take out meal for someone who could not be there with us - no take out meals allowed. Our rolls very disappointing - hard - like they were leftovers from the previous night. 2 people ordered cokes - when they got the drinks they were clear----someone needed to change to coke bottles. Waitress not friendly, Dora, seemed like we asked too many questions and she was not happy. Being only cash --- seems a little sneaky!! read more

Once because it was chard beyond recognition even though it was ordered as medium rare and the second time because it was cold and raw. Our bill was wrong twice and the second time we overheard the manager saying we are not taking anything else off their f-ing bill. Kinda rude considering you had items on our bill we never ordered. The food is really good and the portions are LARGE! They are known for their mussels and homemade pasta. The service is friendly but slow. We were there on a Saturday night and it was insane. The place was severely understaffed and their seemed to be no rhyme nor reason as to how the waitstaff was distributed. It looked like all five waitresses had tables throughout the entire restaurant so they looked like they were running in circles. Busboys to clear tables, run food and fill water glasses would have helped the waitresses and the customers tremendously. Ok, so maybe the lack of organization and backed up kitchen slowed everything down but truly don't go on the weekend with kids or if you have a movie to catch. read more

Worst dinner I ever ordered. Linguine and clams in red sauce and salad with "house" Italian dressing. Pasta very swishy as were the clams. Virtually no red sauce and a lot of water. Huge blob of dressing which was creamy Italian and very very sour. Could not eat so much dressing . I eat out several times a week.i have eaten at many Italian restaurants in Philly area. Twas the Monday before Christmas and all through the town, we were scared to stop, we didn't want a beat down... Ha-ha... We came upon a restaurant clean, we stopped to get a closer look ... it was the best time I've had, I wish you knew what I mean... The beers were cold, the clams so nice and then the owners showed up to cap off the night... The Lemoncello flowed and then the mints, good God then he came out with espresso Pocket Coffee Ferrero. (I know, doesn't rhyme but Damn Good). I would recommend this place so highly that I am sending some kind of Christmas gift. They were so inviting and it made my year! Sorry, can't give this place more than 2 stars when they only have 4 different side options with a main course. One of them being fries for an EXTRA $3 - really??? They were horrible, btw. The others were broccoli, broccoli rabe, or pasta. Not much of a variety. My chicken parm was okay but would've enjoyed a baked potato or mash with it. The area we sat in was small and very loud. They do not accept credit cards- very inconvenient especially since there is no sign stating that and we were not informed by the server prior to ordering. What does one do without cash or a debit card for their ATM machine? Get a free meal? I certainly would not use my credit card in an ATM! They did have a little of a wine variety which was nice. Service was quick, efficient and friendly. The menu was extensive with a full wine, beer and cocktails section to match. Food was served promptly with ample, fresh and well prepared portions. I've never been to Coppa, even before the fire. Decided to try it out since it's been open again for a while. Thoroughly disappointed. First off, our bread plates were dirty, as if the dishwasher rinsed them for 5 seconds and the rolls were hard as a rock with that awful frozen packaged butter you'd expect at a $5 buffet. Got our side salads and they were excellent! However, our entrees came and they were absolutely awful. The shrimp scampi had no flavor; the sauce was melted butter with what tasted like shrimp juice/water mixed in. No spices and very bland, but it had one large clove of garlic sitting on top that looked like it was added to dress the plate; would have been better if the sauce had some actual garlic in it. The noodles were tasteless, as well. My stuffed shells were also bland. The tomato sauce was mostly water without much flavor and it was covered in mozzarella so much so that I couldn't even find the ricotta that was supposedly inside. Our waitress, however was pleasant and very thorough and made our experience better. Overall, very disappointed and won't be back. Pretty bummed! read more

This was my first time at Coppa and was hoping to be blown away because I heard great things. We sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive. I ordered chicken fettuccini Alfredo and was looking forward to a side Caesar salad. The bartender said they don't have a side Caesar but can do a regular salad with a side of Caesar. I opted for ranch dressing and the salad was good but missing croutons. The bread was delivered and we only received two pieces for three people. The bread was very disappointing especially for an Italian restaurant. It was a typical, frozen dinner roll with frozen butter packets. My entree arrived shortly later and looked delicious. The pasta was very salty and some of the pieces of grilled chicken had a rubbery texture. I look forward coming back in the future to try something else. I wasn't a fan of the cash only policy because even though the ATM is free, my bank still charges me to withdrawal money. read more

This was probably one of the worst dining experiences my husband and I have ever had. It was not very busy when we came it and it took over 10 minutes for someone to come greet our table and get our drink order. We ordered the fried mushrooms for an appetizer and when they came out the mushrooms were definitely old, watery, and downright gross. We asked for calamari in exchange and that was no better - very rubbery and over-cooked. The salad bar was decent but extremely difficult to get to because there was this large plastic cover on top and you literally had to bend over to reach in to get anything. The entrees were probably the worst part. I got the lobster ravioli in a "blush" sauce that had these tiny shrimps in it and my husband got the penne pasta in the same blush sauce. We both ate 2 bites, but couldn't stomach anymore because it was so bad. Then we go to pay and they don't accept credit cards! This is the 21st century for Pete's Sake! Who doesn't accept credit cards? My advice: Don't waste your time and money (we spent $50) on a meal that you will be incredibly disappointed with. We will not be returning to Coppa 82. read more
