We absolutely adore Copernicus, we could not have asked for a better or more caring environment for our child's first daycare/school experience. We have had a few waitlist spots open up at other schools and continue to choose Copernicus because our girl has loved each teacher and gets so excited when we drop her off. Bone dry truth. They target black children ( my child is actually Asian and West Indian but identifies as black) and make them feel bad about themselves. Yesenia complained about my child a lot. He was only two and had not been enrolled a full two months and had not attended a full week due to constant illness. There is no curriculum. My child often played alone and the staff did not help him develop any skills. They are his linch and told me he didn't eat. Km aware of this because when he came home and I would give him a similar snack he was say "give me that!" and snatch from me which was new behavior since he was entilled. He often came home with cuts and scrapes and one time a burn on his arm. Do not leave your minority child in their care. Not warm and fuzzy towards blacks. Period. read more

My 4 year old attended Copernicus for 1 year and we loved our experience! The school operates with love and care from the teachers all the way to the admin. I felt that the school was in partnership in raising my child which allowed my kid to thrive and explore all his curiosities. In one year my kid was able to pick up Spanish and began speaking it at home. I was so sad to leave Copernicus but I am thankful for our experience. read more

My daughter has been at Copernicus for nearly 2 years. She is absolutely thriving and loves going to school. The curriculum is engaging and all of her teachers have been so caring and communicative. The school has the most beautiful outdoor space where the kids spend a ton of time playing outside in nature. The most incredible bonus is the Spanish immersion environment. My family speaks zero Spanish at home, but my daughter is bilingual in English and Spanish...what a gift to give her in life. The owner, Amy, and the director, Yesenia, are engaged, enthusiastic, and attentive. We've had our son enrolled at Copernicus since August of 2022, and have been so happy with our experience. The environment is warm and inviting, with wonderful teachers who seem to really enjoy their time with the children. We love the Spanish immersion, and though our son has a slight language delay, he's done so much better since being enrolled at Copernicus. His speech therapists have even mentioned that having a bilingual environment has been very helpful for his development. We're so grateful to have found such a great spot and look forward to enrolling our younger children as they get old enough to join. read more

I can not say enough about this school. My daughter loves it here, and her teacher Ms. Gabby is just such a joy. My 3-year-old is speaking Spanish daily, learning leadership skills, making friends, and surprising us on a regular basis with conversations about what she is learning at school. We all love it here. They receive us with a huge smile every morning and in the afternoon when I pick up our daughter. Each morning she runs over to the teachers and the group to find out what project they are working on. Every day it is something new and creative. She once came home with a spaceship that had a battery and wires. With her little two year old fingers she connected the wires and it rattled. It blew my mind! There is a good balance between indoor and outdoor activity. They are incredibly patient with potty training and nap time. They have been accommodating with drop off and pick up hours. They send photos of the kids all day over email or an app. I simply couldn't ask for more. The two women who started the school have a wonderful energy and inspiration. They are the people who go above and beyond to do well and to stay in business. read more

We take our child here and it's embarrassing to say he excitedly jumps up and down the minute he wakes up in the morning yelling 'school, school!' They spend 50% of their time outside which was extremely important to me as we have a high energy toddler. It's not a Montessori school, but the kid's ages are mixed and there's no tech toys, a focus on creative play, with positive reinforcement. It is very in line with what drew me to Montessori teaching styles. I also love the themed weeks. Last week was safari. My guy loved it. He wore out his toilet paper binoculars ;) We got into it so much we decided to dress him in some safari shorts. It's just fun to know they're teaching and we can play along. They're focused on STEM learning which is great bc they learn biology and science and about the earth and the surroundings. And the arts and crafts are anything but normal kiddie art and craft projects. It's a combo of learning, exploring, creating and socializing at the same time. What more can you ask for? It's a growing little school (which was a plus for me as well) and the teachers are sweet and will talk to you about your kid- good or bad and work to improve the behavior. I also love that we bring our own lunch and snacks. I know what's going in my kiddos belly ;) And they are dual language. What else more do you want for your kid? I'd keep him home but he'd be bored.... read more

Had the opportunity to visit Copernicus before their grand opening. I was very impressed with all the hard work and consideration the staff had put into making sure that they meet the needs of the children who will attend. My husband and I both work and have been fortunate to have family to help with the care of our daughter. She has been with family since she was 3 months old. My daughter is almost 3 years old now and you can imagine a parent's apprehension in leaving their child at daycare for the first time. The staff at Copernicus treated her like family, made her feel at home and at the end of the day, she didn't want to leave. In addition to making her feel comfortable and tending to her needs, they have her participates in fun and educational activities daily. It's exciting to have her arrive home ready to show me what she has created at Copernicus. A pet made out of crafts, art made from recycled materials and much more. We are very happy with Copernicus. They do a great job of helping kids through transitions and learning how to socialize while also giving them a little room to work out their own problems. They do fun learning activities in a play based environment. My kid understands a lot of Spanish now! I also love their level of communication. UPDATE - Questioning professionalism Copernicus academy felt like the perfect fit for my son. He didn't do well in a traditional setting, like the children of several other reviewers, and after settling in at Copernicus he started to shine. The teacher told me he was the most inquisitive of the class and was always engaged in activities and asking questions until the end. He loved having ample outside time, and he particularly adored his homeroom teacher. When we first enrolled him, I inquired about how they dealt with tantrums, because my son's tantrums were intense and long in duration. He's big for his age, so the intensity feels even stronger. I was assured that they were used to dealing with kids' frustrations and were well trained for it (it is a preschool, after all). He had some pretty rough patches when he first started, and the director told me in the beginning that she was concerned about their ability to help him during their transition being short-staffed and hiring another teacher. She communicated with me regularly at pick-up, assured me that they were working with him, but never set up a formal meeting or behavior plan. After they hired another teacher, and my son settled in and had significantly fewer tantrums, and I stopped receiving any communication about concern over them being able to handle him....until the day he got expelled. He was feeling under the weather that day and there was a sub in one class (not a good combo for a small child). He had a tantrum in which he threw a toy at the teacher and it hit her in the face. I received a message during the day to reserve extra time at pick-up to talk to the director. When I arrived, she notified me that they felt unable to provide childcare for him. This was on a Thursday. The meeting was between the director and myself, and I felt blindsided. She told me how terrible she felt about it and that she really would look into other options for our family, but I haven't heard from her since, and my husband and I had to take turns going to work until we cobbled together a new childcare plan. When I told my son he couldn't go back the next day, his face broke my heart as he cried, "I promise I'll be good tomorrow!" At his previous school when he struggled, the director met with the teacher, my husband, and me, and we made a plan together as a team. They brought in an outside counselor to observe my son and meet with us, and we had the opportunity to try new things as a team until we finally decided that the school had tried everything, but it wasn't the right fit. At Copernicus we felt like it WAS a good fit, but were never offered the opportunity to meet as a team - both parents, teacher, and director - to make a plan. I didn't realize he was on the verge of expulsion. One day I had an amazing place to take my child while I went to work, and then next day I didn't, so I had to take him with me. I'm a special education teacher, and I don't give up on ANY of my students. Having someone give up on my child was devastating. I understand safety concerns when a child is having a tantrum, but schools should be equipped to handle behaviors that are common to the age groups that they serve. The expulsion rate in pre-schools in our country is higher than at any other grade, and this approach is detrimental. Unfortunately, Copernicus is only equipped to deal with the pre-schoolers they want to have in their program. Additionally, I felt like there was no care shown to my family after we left. At my son's previous school, they called to check in after we left, but I've heard nothing from Copernicus except for an e-mail regarding my efforts to secure the promised tuition refund. During my meeting with the director, I asked if I would be able to get a tuition reimbursement. My head was spinning with how I would be able to provide care for my child and make it to work on such short notice. She assured me a pro-rated refund wasn't a problem, but it took over a month and a few e-mail requests before receiving a check, and the email communication from the business manager included, "Please note that the Parent Manual is very clear about no refunds for partial months after the first month. I however, am overlooking that policy and issuing a refund." The program at Copernicus is amazing, but in my experience their focus is on their program...their passion lies there, not in the children, and they can pick and choose whom they want to serve. I do hope that this changes because those attracted to that kind of program will be our creative geniuses who aren't successful at traditional "kindergarten readiness" programs. I hope they work on increasing their professionalism in communicating with parents. read more

We moved out of state - so my son has not gone there in almost five months, but he STILL mentions Copernicus at least once a week, "I want to go to my old school." It melts my heart every time he says it, and I think that is the best indicator for the quality of a school. Our family loves Copernicus Academy, and are so grateful to be a part of this community. The teachers are nurturing and professional, and most importantly, my daughter loves them. Miss Rebeca and Miss Myrella communicate wonderfully, and always listen and respond to concerns that arise. I am utterly amazed at times with the activities and projects these little ones do. Creativity and art are woven into the STEM curriculum beautifully. There is also a lot of outdoor time, which is important to us. I feel my daughter is getting balanced and diverse experience in an incredibly caring environment. She is thriving, and Copernicus is a huge part of this. My daughter is on a restricted diet for sensitivities (dairy and gluten), and the Copernicus team has been very supportive of her dietary needs. They do a seamless job giving my daughter her 'special cookies' when others are eating cupcakes or other foods for special occasions (birthdays are big celebrations). This team and facilities are top notch. I did a lot of shopping around to find the right day care for our daughter when we needed to leave our previous day care. This is a wonderful program! We were simply looking for a safe and flexible daycare option for our child when we moved to Austin, but we've gotten so much more from Copernicus Academy. I honestly cannot believe we were so lucky. The head teacher of the school creates inventive and exciting STEM lesson plans for the children that attend Copernicus. Our 20 month old daughter is working on something new every week. One week she's digging for fossils, another week she is making a catapult. The focus on science doesn't come at the exclusion of art. Our daughter is frequently engaged in artistic activities at Copernicus - not cookie-cutter preschool art, but real, free-form, process art. How do I know? They send me picture updates throughout the day. All of this is provided in a dual-language (Spanish and English) environment, by an incredibly caring and gentle staff. They work very hard to encourage and participate in community. The result? My daughter plays more independently. She explores more readily. She refers to things like "shoes" and "water" in Spanish. It's obvious as you walk in that this place is being run by pros. The facilities are very nice and everything is always organized . It was difficult for me to go back to work after staying home with my daughter for her first 18 months. My husband and I were extremely anxious about putting her in care for the first time but our experience with Copernicus over the last few months has relieved any anxieties that we had. Copernicus is truly a school staffed by amazing educators and loving caregivers. Our daughter is excited to go to school everyday and runs to play upon arrival. My son loves planets, music, and colors. Rather than play with an electric toy, he'd rather play with wheels and boxes and see how things work. They cater to this attitude. My child has excelled and I wish that every child had the opportunity that my child is being given at Copernicus. The staff is made up of people who have serious goals and passions in the fields of history, science, culture, education, and children. The administrators have created the best possible learning environment for our children. Even though it's unlikely, I only hope my son will always be able have the same level of love and attention he gets here. The price is right. The staff is better than any staff at any daycare in the area and the children appear to be very well behaved. The parents are also very pleasant. If you are looking for a modern, loving, and scientific approach to your toddler's learning I strongly encourage you to embark on this journey. You will not regret it. We recently moved into Mueller and were looking for a daycare nearby. My daughter had been at a Spanish Immersion school in Westlake prior so Spanish was important to us, and Copernicus seemed to check enough boxes. Violet has now been there four months and we've just grown to love it more and more over time. At her last school I sat down at a parent teacher conference when she was 2 and was told what shapes and colors she could and couldn't identify in Spanish and English. At Copernicus they aren't already trying to teach kids to the test at age 2. They recognize how essential play is to their development and they do it all the time-- she is usually outside playing pretend or in the sand with friends at drop off and pick up. In between she is doing cool experiments like building earthworm habitats and making quicksand. I love the way learning is fun here and I love how laidback and loving the staff is. My son is 10 months and I'm looking forward to when he's old enough to attend too! read more

Hey - I've never written a yelp review before - but my experience at Copernicus was so refreshing and positive - that I thought it deserved a few words. The facility is colorful and cheerful, the outdoor space has lots of fun for the kids, and everyone was super kind and helpful. What really stood out though, was how active and engaged my kids were during the day! Normally my kids can't articulate what they've been up to at daycare, but when I got to Copernicus to pick up my kids - they had so many projects they wanted to show me! Puppets, and car ramps, and paintings! It also seemed that there was a good balance between free, creative play vs structured activities. Very child-focused. Thanks Copernicus! read more
