Dr. Skaria is great, she genuinely cares about her patients and ensures I am happy when I leave the office. They send you a comfort preference survey before your appointment to ensure you are comfortable during the visit. I switched dentists earlier this year and I am very happy with my decision. I went in for my first visit here yesterday and saw Dr. Leake, and I can definitely say that this is my dentist from now on. Having pretty crummy teeth, I've been to more dentists than most, and this was the most comfortable experience I've had. Both Dr. Leake and her hygienist were extremely friendly and made me feel very relaxed. They had an emergency patient come in right before me, so I'm sure that put them a bit behind schedule, and despite that I did not feel like I was being rushed at all. They both took the time to thoroughly explain things to me and answer all of my questions. The assistant here did a horrible job cleaning my teeth! Super sloppy and when she was flossing my teeth she made the dirty floss touch my face getting my saliva all over my face! I know, this is LONG. We switched to Copeland Dental in late 2015 because we like that their facility was more updated than our previous dentist and they were accepting pediatric patients. We went as a family of four to the first visit wherein our children (aged 2) did not receive a flouride polish as our pediatrician previously did and informed us would from then on be performed by dentist. No big deal, simple polish that I am sure isn't that big of a deal. What did sort of put me off was that they didn't even really look in their mouths and just brushed their teeth. Well, I do that at home, thanks for the bill. My husband had a very thorough examination wherein he was encouraged to participate in a tooth staightening program so he could be "more confident in his smile" (there words, not his). I was unable to have a full exam performed as I was in my first trimester of pregnancy and X-rays are not encouraged. I expected that, so no problem there. The problem arose when they failed to notice during my cleaning that I had a tooth that was fairly decayed despite me mentioning experiencing pain for quite some time. I just figured I'd wait until after the baby was delivered and get it taken care of then. Fast forward to mid-February 2016 when the downward spiral started. The tooth that I had previously mentioned had begun to cause excruciating pain, so I contacted Copeland to make an appointment, explaining that I would get any necessary paperwork from my OB to get this thing looked at. The receptionist told me they were backed up for several weeks, but that she could get me a referral to a specialist since the pain was more than I could handle. I explained to her that it was one of my molars, the furthest one back next to where my wisdom teeth would be if I had had wisdom teeth. I called back a few hours later to check on the referral (despite her saying she would call me back) and was told my referral was ready for pick up. Awesome, I drove right over. I get the referral and notice that it was written for a wisdom tooth extraction. Odd because I specifically told the receptionist that I did not have wisdom teeth, that they were pulled in 2012. Whatever, I went ahead and made an appointment at referred oral surgeon in Lincoln Park and can get in that day, GREAT! Load up the twins and head down there, only to be told by the surgeon that he cannot do anything because the referral is incorrect, and for Copeland to call him so he can basically tell them how wrong they were. Copeland schedules me the next evening to come in for an x-ray, I felt that was pretty accommodating considering how they were so backed up. It was a bit of a red flag when young woman taking my x-rays did not know to double vest me (pregnant), but I reminded her to do so and all went well. One of the doctors came in and said that it appeared I needed a root canal, but that she would refer me out to an endodontist since that is her specialty. Two days later I had an appointment for a root canal at with an endodontist who injected me with epinephrine despite my OB putting in writing that I cannot have epinephrine. I left there and was told to call Copeland in two weeks for my crown fitting. I didn't even make it two weeks without the molar cracking. I went in today to have that temporarily fixed and called Copeland about 30 minutes before they opened to try and get in ASAP to get this thing capped. They open at 9:00a on Thursdays so I figured I'd give it a bit. I called at 12:15p and was told they were still going through messages. Alright, I'll try again in a bit. I call at 5:00p to check in and am told that they are no longer taking my insurance and that it would be in my best interest to seek treatment elsewhere. I begged, stating I am in need of emergent care, and the receptionist (the one who gave me the incorrect referral and never returned any of my calls) told me that they have one dentist who is currently taking my insurance and is backed up for the next 3 weeks. Yeah, that isn't going to work for someone with a crumbling tooth. So now I am waiting for Copeland to release me back into the "insurance pool" so I can go back to my previous dentist whom I never should have left. I asked the receptionist why patients were not informed of the insurance change and she just said that they were in the process of letting people know. This was unacceptable to me because I have an open procedure that she kept stating was received an awaiting scheduling. So much for that. The dentists that I saw were nice enough people, but this entire switch was a nightmare. They never return calls, their follow up entirely is relatively poor, and their pediatric care was pathetic. Time to move on, but I felt other people should know how poor the service was here. If you can, research other practices if you anticipate needing more than routine dental care. read more

I was fortunate enough to have a family friend as my dentist until I was 26...then I moved to Chicago. In the 6 years I have been here, I have seen 4 different dentists! "Doc Mo" is my last. I won't have to look for another dentist, ever. She is the best. She cares about her patients. She talks to you not just as a patient but as a person. And her hygienist is probably one of the nicest and sweetest people I have ever met. No joke. They really make going to get your teeth cleaned a pretty good experience. Whch is super tough. The owner Maureen is so kind and efficient with her responses. I am in an emergency situation, and she always made sure to respond to all of my questions promptly. Even though they don't take Medicaid here, she offered to set me up with a payment plan (because dentists are opting out as far as Medicaid goes this year) or to help refer me to somewhere that does take my insurance. I'm a nursing student and school isn't cheap, so it was very refreshing not to be brushed off like a bum or a common criminal, like so many places will do! UPDATE (05/12/2017): the doctor called and left me a voicemail after reading this yelp review. She apologized for the matter not being handled better and offered to send me my X-rays for free. She was very kind and apologetic about it and said that the receptionist had never passed on my complaint to her when I had called 2 months ago. I don't need the X-rays anymore, but I appreciate that she followed through once she made aware of the situation. (03/38/2017) Good luck getting your dental records if you move and need to switch dentists. I called to have my X-rays emailed to me (which I have done with other dentists in the past). The receptionist said no problem and to call back if I didn't get the email. So I call back the next day because I didn't get an email, maybe it didn't go thru I don't know. No big deal I thought. I call back and a different receptionist tells me there will be a $20 administrative fee to have them emailed. This was never mentioned to me the first time and is outrageous. I have never had to pay to have access to my own medical files!!!! I asked to speak to a manager about it and she said the doctor would call me back. I shouldn't be charged for them to send me an email. I asked if they would be free if I just came in and physically got my X-rays and she said it would still be $20. Soooo $20 to hand me my own medical information?? This is a very annoying process for which should just be a simple email. I have changed dentists twice because I moved and both times they were able to send me an email for free, no trouble at all. read more

Dr. Copeland is wonderful. I went in for a deep cleaning & barely felt a thing. There were moments of discomfort but none enough to say that I wouldn't do that again if I had to. I was a bit nervous & thought of course this is gonna hurt at least a little bit but to my surprise it really didnt. They got started almost immediately. I popped my headphones on & just let them work. It was so easy to get relaxed. Just wanna say thank you Dr. Copeland & the staff! They are so friendly & comforting. I hating giving bad reviews because I know how much a business these days needs them to thrive however if you wrong your customers you deserve it. My family and I have been going here for years and recently, I was given the costs to have my sons four cavities filled, the retail price minus expected insurance and my out of pocket costs. These numbers kept changing through out my experience. After the insurance paid, I noticed that I should get some money back; of course not! they have answer for everything like oh the insurance did not apply the correct amount, etc, etc, etc...This place has changed, used to be better but now just poorly run! I was referred by Esmeralda. The staff is wonderful and they are very helpful with answers regarding dental care. I'm usually scared of dentists because there roughness with my sensitive teeth and gums. But the dentist at Copeland was very gentle and I didn't even notice when she had finished with my teeth. Update: I now find out that if I want to pay cash, they can see me immediately. Can I make an appointment for... March... no April... no May... no June... no Can I pay cash... we can see you in an hour. When I question them about why they treat patients differently I'm told they are going to stop accepting my insurance in a few months so I might want to find another Dentist. It is their right to accept or not accept insurance but why not tell me this a month ago and why keep advertising on your web page that you accept this insurance? Clearly money is a factor with this dentist to the point that everyone gets different service depending on how much you or your insurance pays. Thanks but no thanks! read more

I haven't been to a dentist in a shamefully long time but I did not feel judged by the doctor or staff. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable and punctual. There is a large t.v. in front of you to help kill time and they can pull up the images of your teeth on it. It was very helpful being able to see my actual teeth while the dr was talking about them. read more

I was referred to Dr. Copeland by a friend when I had some unexpected, INTENSE, unending, terrifying tooth pain. Dr. Copeland and her staff got me in quickly which was a big relief. The staff was helpful and responsive to any questions or concerns I had before, during, and after the appointment(including how insurance works...?). Dr. Copeland was great. I have always had such a great experience here! I have since moved out of state but had to recently call for records and they were on top of everything. I went to this dentist for about 18 months prior to moving and they were very knowledgeable, sincere and professional. They did not push services on you and it was always a very comfortable environment. My family and I went to our first visit back in April. We had a great experience, especially my two little ones (5 and 7). They are ver pleasant over the phone and did not dissapoint when we met them. We are so lucky we found them and look forward to being their patients for many years.
