Enjoyed a cheap drink while we waited for our takeout order. Food was plentiful, and while we intentionally overordered, I cannot say enough about affordability. Highlight was the sweet family that runs this place. The son served us, and engaged us in conversation. The mom was a sweetheart who helped take our order and even created a "dealer's choice" dish for a vegetarian in our party. East Charlotte is great because of businesses like this. Upon entrance, I enjoyed how open the restaurant seemed and felt immersed by the ambiance which the restaurant gave off. We were quickly seated and looked through the menu for a meal. I ended up opting for the tacos and they were delicious. Too often do restaurants skimp on the meat portion but this restaurant gave a bountiful amount. I got to try their Pollo con tajadas which were just as good, if not better than the authentic Honduran street food. For it being Christmas, all the staff was more than happy to be there and to serve the many customers who were also looking for some food. All in all, I'm so glad to have found this restaurant which serves delicious hispanic food and look forward to coming back in the future.

Just today I found a hair inside my tortilla, meaning it was in the batch of masa. When I brought it up, the only thing that was discounted was my Coke. Which is not the point but there could've been a better effort made to right the situation. It's disappointing because the food is good but I can't comfortably return due to the lack of hygiene.

Pollo Campero is pure nostalgia for me--and still one of the best fried chicken experiences out…read morethere. Fun backstory: years ago when I worked in international arrivals for Continental Airlines in Houston, flights coming in from Central America would regularly have passengers traveling with bags full of Pollo Campero. It was that serious. (And yes... we had to confiscate and destroy it. Painful.) That's how you know it's good. Originating in Guatemala, this chicken has a flavor profile that just hits differently--crispy, juicy, perfectly seasoned. It stands in a league of its own. Pair it with: * Arepas * Sweet plantains * And if you've got room, flan or churros And you've got a full-on comfort meal. Let me be clear: this is not your typical fast-food chicken. It easily outshines KFC, Popeyes, Church's Chicken, and Bojangles in flavor and uniqueness. Bottom line: if you see a Pollo Campero, stop and try it. You'll get it the moment you take that first bite. Get out there, Charlotte--and eat up.

When I initially visited (in their first couple of months after opening) I was super in love with this place. Unfortunately every experience after that has been super inconsistent. I've ordered their seafood sancocho three times and every single time I've gotten a different dish. The last time I ordered it - it was more so vegetables with 2 teaspoons of broth, some rice and old fried yucca. If you look at the photo - I believe you can tell the yucca looks like it'd been in the fridge for days and they just threw it in there for good measure. The waiter didn't smile and generally looked miserable to have to deal with me. I asked for hot sauce that never came. Just overall, really disappointed in my last experience here and unfortunately won't be retuning due to how inconsistent my last few visits have been. You might get something that tastes decent, you might not.
