Searching the internet I found Cobblescote on the Lake. It was just what I was looking for. An old school kind of place with character that represented the area. During our week's vacation we had stayed in a few modern chain hotels and were super pleased to find a place such as this that was the total opposite. Right on Lake Otsego in a picturesque setting among the woods. As we drove up both of us were blown away. This place was something out of a Norman Rockwell painting he did for the Saturday Evening Post back in the day. Pure Americana from a time that relects our grandparents era of when vacationing upstate and in the Catskills was a big thing. The building itself and the rustic decor reminds me of a hunting and fishing lodge. American flags, wood everywhere, log furniture, hunting/fishing instruments on the walls, checkers game on the table, all types of outdoorsy articles and sporting things placed around, an amazing view overlooking the lake, and the most wonderful outdoor deck to enjoy it on. We were greeted by the owner, Peter, and he gave us a quick tour of the place. There are spacious grounds with gas grills and picnic tables, a beach area for swimming, fishing, boating or just relaxing right on the lake. They also will provide fishing gear for guests. I saw a canoe, pedal boat and kayaks that can be used free of charge. You can even get boat tours and fishing charters here. There is a free laundry room on site which is great if you're there with kids and cleaning some clothes is a must. Also some foosball, pinball and other games to occupy some time. Every morning a full complimentary breakfast is provided to all guests. All the rooms are newly refurbished with private baths and Adirondack décor. Cable TV in all rooms and free wifi throughout. AC units in the rooms too, but it can actually get cool enough at night so that you don't need it. Plus, they are located just 4 miles from Cooperstown, 4 miles from the Glimmerglass Festival, and 9 miles from Cooperstown Dreams Park so everything is a quick drive. Reasonable room rates for all this make it a terrific deal. I have to say the rooms are well kept, clean, and very cozy. Peter is a very attentive and affable resort owner who cares about his guests and makes sure they have everything needed for a great stay. One of the highlights for me was just getting up early each morning to have a hot cup of coffee on the deck while watching the sunrise over the lake. So relaxing and peaceful. At night we sat out there under a blanket and drank wine. Another was the option of a home cooked meal here on a Saturday night on the deck prepared by Peter and his friendly staff. Shrimp cocktail, crab and corn chowder, char broiled delmonico steak, and dessert. Delicious meal. (Extra charge for this but so worth the price.) Oh, can't forget that yummy breakfast quiche and fresh fruits the next day before we had to sadly head home. Overall, just a wonderful place and one of the best spots we stayed at during our vacation. Great memories. If you're looking for a more simpler place to rest your head at that brings you back to a time when upstate resort vacations were big then you should experience Cobblescote. A beautiful 15 minute drive to the ballpark and the most accommodating hosts ever! Rooms clean, well-appointed and we were lucky enough to get one with a view :) Genevieve offered a wonderful breakfast each morning and the view from the open-air deck could not be beat! Great way to start each day. Plenty of amenities offered for couples or families: games, kayaks, paddle boat, bbq, fridge, microwave, laundry facility, to name just a few. All the comforts of home, which made it a perfect place to land for 8 days! Was fun to get to know the hosts (Genevieve, Mary, Peter & Clayton), as well as other guests. When I first opened the door I was impressed by the size of the room, huge is all I can say. The bed was warm and cozy, buy was I tired after a long day. The suite consisted of a living room, bed room and bathroom. Even the bathroom was huge. In the morning I was greeted by a beautiful picturesque view of the falls. The Inn also provided a Continental Breakfast, and the best thing ever for a morning, a Kureg coffee maker with a selection of various coffees. The host was amazing, showing us the rooms and describing anything we might need to know. The place is Amazing and I suggest a stay when ever you're in the area. Sorry, some of the photos are blurry because I had a screen on the window. I forgot to mention that the bathroom had a Jacuzzi.

The king bed was nice, but I felt that mattress was ready to be replaced, as there were several sunken divots in certain spots. The front desk associate was sweet, as were the views of the Mohawk River from our room. We really enjoyed our stay here!

Wow!!! I can't put into words how amazing this place is. We've been to a lot of bed and breakfasts…read more quite a few that were :high end" but nothing compared to this magnificent place. There were a few rooms in the bed and breakfast itself but we chose to to stay in the cottage by the B&B "The Hog and Haus" which at one point in time housed pigs. This cottage is right next to a gorge that you can hear very clearly from inside the cottage and it lulls you to sleep. The cottage is rustic yet has all the amenities you could want (except television) there is a fully stocked fridge with soda, water, yogurt, a variety of fruit, milk, cheese (good brick cheese), creamer for coffee, and flavored seltzer water. There are also a variety of different kinds of crackers, cereals (the good kind), and baked goods that the host prepares daily. You also have access to the main house which is very tastefully decorated with antiques and a working pool table, and, get this.......an all you can eat ice cream sundae bar with all of the toppings and not one, not two, but over six flavors of ice cream!!!! There are also more snacks and beverages there. The cottage itself was more than worth the cost especially with the sound of the waterfalls in the gorge and the true cabin feel. If you plan to go to Cooperstown or even just want an awesome getaway (this place is well worth the trip from anywhere) come to Johnstown to stay in this charming historical place. Oh yeah..... there is a ton of history behind these walls including being part of the underground railroad. I promise, you will not be disappointed.

Both of those factors were off-the-charts at the Inn by the Mill. My fiancee' (well, now fiancee'... :)) took me up here on a 2 night trip for our 4th anniversary together and right away, I fell in love with this place. The numerous fountains and gardens framing the mill house are hard not to be enchanted with, and this is just the beginning. Ron and Judith are gracious hosts, with Ron having some amazing stories to tell. People wrote in the guest book in the Mill House that Ron should write down his memoirs, and listening to him for ten minutes will make you agree. The main Grist Mill Emporium will amaze you, with its numerous games (billards table, checkers, puzzles, tv, etc.) and of course, its amazing ice cream parlor with complimentary ice cream, toppings, sodas and other beverages! Heading over to the Mill House (the main guest house), you will instantly feel the sense of whimsy that Judith's decorating is trying to achieve. The outside koi pond compliments the larger pond in the Grist Mill. The porch is wonderfully day-dream inducing, especially if a recent rain has fueled the waterfalls into a loud stream behind the mill. The plethora of treats in the house's kitchen is evident as soon as one walks in, with the small cooler of baked goods courtesy of gourmet cook Judith (their famous oreo truffle torte is NOT to be missed!!) There is a fully stocked fridge (eggs, fruit, yogurt, bagels, etc.) along with every kind of tea and coffee that you would need...the living room and lounge areas are just magical and really evoke a great feeling of warmth that is a great way to start your day on vacation. My guy and I stayed by the Hog-n-Haus, a beautiful, romantic sweet little cottage literally right at the cliff of the waterfalls. Just beautiful and serene.... the perfect place to propose to your girlfriend of 4 years, which my guy did on August 3rd :). Thank you Inn by the Mill, for a truly wonderful and memorable experience. He is a stickler for Covid19 safety protocols and I always felt safe. And the place is immaculate and comfortable. Breakfasts were also very good, and made to order each morning. And Mike is one for great conversation. Brick, Mike's dog companion is so friendly, he is a joy to meet. I strongly recommend this place for a good night's sleep, a feeling of home, and a preferred alternative to corporate hotels.

Outside needs a paint job (we visited in June, so winter weather was no excuse.). Business office in the kitchen was a mess. Open storage spaces/closets fiilled with old stuff. Great food can make or break a B&B, and it was so disappointing (cold, stale pancakes, cold sausage, unripe fruit) that we went elsewhere for breakfast the second day. People were nice, location was good, but we thought it was overpriced for the quality.

The…read morehotels in Cooperstown were mostly booked, or very expensive and this was a reasonable alternative even though we knew we'd have to drive 10+ minutes into town. The first day we were there was fine. The parking was good and the room was very clean. Little did we know some of that would change. If you aren't familiar with Cooperstown Dreams Park, be sure to check the schedule before planning a trip to Cooperstown, unless you're there for a baseball tournament (which apparently our entire motel was). It will make your time there very difficult. All the shops will be clogged, and the Hall of Fame will be mobbed. Our motel was basically empty all day and you could come or go as you please. But at around 9:00pm it would get completely full with cars parked everywhere, even in places there weren't any spots. There would be car doors slamming, kids screaming and playing, and adults drinking and talking until well after 11:00pm. This happened every night. It was extremely annoying, especially when you're woken up from a sound sleep. There was no enforcement of quiet hours even though it's posted everywhere. So if you want to pay a bunch of money to sleep on a crappy spring mattress with zero support and be woken up by pretentious baseball families every night. I highly recommend staying here! Also, it was just far enough outside of Cooperstown to be annoying whenever you wanted a bite to eat or a warm breakfast. It was a one and done for us.

When I found their website, I was immediately attracted to the decor. I LOVE antiques! We booked our stay for the Tiffany Rose suite. Shortly after we booked our stay, we received an email from Barry. He asked if we were staying for anything inparticular (wedding, anniversary, etc.). He also asked if we had any dietary restrictions because he prepares breakfast every morning of your stay. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by both Barry and Denise. They gave us a tour of the Victorian and then showed us to our room. I was in awe from the moment we pulled in the driveway. They also gave us some ideas for places to eat and things to do. Now let me tell you about breakfast...all I can say is WOW! Our 1st morning we walked downstairs to the smell of bacon and piano music playing. We walked into the dining room to find 2 beautiful place settings for us, with juice, coffee and fresh fruit waiting. Denise came out and grabbed our plates, then brought them back out with the most delicious breakfast. We got to start our morning with a crustless quiche, hashbrowns, and "my dad's bacon", as Barry called it. So we got to start our morning, and every morning we were there, with full, happy bellies. It was a great start to each morning! Each morning was something different, but equally delicious. If I have my choice, I will skip hotels and stick with B&Bs. If you are traveling to the Herkimer/Cooperstown area and not traveling with children under 13, I highly recommend the Raindrops on Roses B&B.
