This place is part bar part gift shop. Lots of random baseball related things for sale including local beer and spirits. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks. The old fashioned was good and used local bourbon. All the local beers are on tap. The bartender was very nice and the service was good. You won't want to take your kids in here. read more

Great place to stop at. Nice, warm decor with a few comfy chairs inside & out. Located on the main street downtown with street parking. Short walk from "The Hall". Polite, friendly staff. Cooperstown has not changed much over the years. Baseball Hall of Fame. Plenty of souvenir \ sports shops. A few casual places to eat. But this place adds a new vibe to the town that was missed. Not only does Cooperstown Distillery make & sell a variety of alcoholic spirits ( rum, gin, vodka, whiskey, etc), they also have a huge cocktail list made with the finest of bartending ingredients. You can try small, free samples of their products AND a nice refreshing cocktail on a hot day. On top of all this, they have tons of products to sell for oneself or excellent gifts! Plenty of local, craft beers, wines, glasseware, books, candles, decanters, shirts, etc. Excellent place to buy ( now) those special gifts to give all year round. The Cooperstown Distillery was such an amazing time and experience! My husband and I went to their distillery tour which only happens on Saturdays at 2PM. It last about an hour, they take you back into the distillery to the mechanicals, warehouse and even where they age the barrels of liquor. the tour guide provided so much details of the distilling process, answered everyone's questions and even gave us tastes and feels of the liquor through the various steps of the distilling process. You could tell that they not only take pride on their spirits, but that they actually love their jobs! It was incredible and I have never had such a good and educational time doing a distillery tour and I cannot recommend this enough. After the tour, you go into the main bar area and you get to try literally every single spirit they make and the tour guide even stood there and answered all of our questions. Because of this tasting I found a new love for gin, specifically their Fenimore gin which doesn't taste like the normal floral gin. I bought it at the end of the tour. I cannot recommend this distillery and tour enough. You will be sure to be mind blown at just truly hospitable they are and how much they want you to enjoy and learn the process of distilling spirits as well. Open the wood and glass paned door and enter into the wonderful world of spirits, charm, warmth and good nature! There are plenty of places to sit around tables and at the counter to order snifters, shot glasses or larger. The staff is polite, knowledgeable and talkative. It's a hustle and bustle in here during crush seasons and during evening hours. Come early to snag an optimal seat with views of your sports game on TV. The interior is perfect! It fleshes out some sort of wild, woodsy, folksy, Real New York vibe with its wood panels and chrome and wide windows with views of the Main Street in Cooperstown. My husband and I have been to many tastings, but this one was by far the strangest. The woman behind the counter didn't seem all that knowledgable about the products, and even said something along the line of "Eh, it's just okay" - way to sell your product, lady. She was way too casual, as if we were her friends, cursing a bit in her conversation with us and unable to answer some of our questions about the distilling process/ingredients used. It was just bizarre. There were lots of awkward silences in between pours rather than "So here you have our bourbon, it's aged for x years in these barrels, etc". It was just "here's our bourbon" - pour. Hubby and I are avid whiskey/bourbon drinkers so this was probably the worst tasting we've been to in terms of description of products and a knowledgable person on staff. On the way out, we saw the man who must've been the owner - I kind of wish we had him to guide us through the tasting. Perhaps this lady shouldn't be the one doing the pours. The products were tasty, but we didn't buy any. We were so turned off, so after the 5 minute tasting, we left. read more

A fairly new distillery (about five years) with really great products. Wifey and I wanted to make sure we stopped here but sadly couldn't be here for an actual tour. When we got inside and sidled up to the bar we were told we could try three products each for free...and since we also tasted each other's we got to taste most of the options. We tried the gin, bourbon, rum, American whiskey aged on French oak barrels and American whiskey aged in American oak barrels. Absolutely loved all of them. Decided to bring home a bottle of the gin and the American whiskey aged in American oak barrels in a cool baseball shaped bottle and display box. Would love to come back someday and do the tour of the actual distillery. read more

Before visiting Cooperstown Distillery, I had no idea that the distillery had received a bunch of awards for its spirits. Since Cooperstown is the birthplace of baseball, one can definitely observe the mingling of spirits and baseball. For example, a couple of the liquor bottles are baseball-shaped. The guy behind the bar (unfortunately, whose name, I've forgotten) was pretty knowledgable about everything relating the sports. You could tell that he was really into and involved with the process of making spirits from start to finish. He was pretty generous with the tasting offerings and answered pretty much all of my questions. One small thing. I wish they had a couple of folks working at the bar to field (no pun) questions on the day of our visit. I did have a few more questions about some of the products, but I did not want to "hog" the man working because there were other folks waiting to be helped. *I guess that I can always get more information about the distillery's offerings online.* I did take home a bottle of Glimmerglass Vodka, which is distilled SIX times, and Fenimore Gin. read more

My wife and I stopped in for the 2 pm tour on Saturday. it was a rainy day that day and the tour was more crowded than I expected. It had about 15 people or so on it. As part of the tour, you get a shot glass with the logo and it was used for tasting during the tour. This is a pretty small operation right now. The still, fermenter, and barrel storage is all in one room in the facility. The tour was given by one of the guys who is involved with the distilling process. He was from Ireland and was pretty interesting. The good part was that he was very knowledgeable about their process because he is involved with it. During the tour, we were able to sample bourbon, gin, whiskey, vodka, white dog, and a fireball type of liquor. The whiskey was the best of the selection in my opinion. The place has capitalized on the baseball theme of the area. They have a patent for a baseball decanter for the whiskey. It is cool. I didnt really like the whiskey all that much yet, but having the decanter as a souvenir to have around is cool. In my opinion, they are pushing out the bourbon/whiskey to soon. Some of the whiskey is a year old and some of the bourbon is only 18 months in the barrel. I prefer bourbon in the 6-10 year range, but i understand the financial reasons that they are pushing it out quickly. The need for capital and to also capitalize on the current popularity of bourbon. If you are interested in distilling or its products, stop in and check it out. read more

This place is adorable. the guy behind the counter knew a ton about what he was serving us, and gave us free recipes. The quality of spirits is great - please try their Boatyard Rum! - and the service is great. There's extremely limited seating, so if you're going to do a tasting with people that need to sit down, just keep that in mind. Liz was working the tasting room and she was an absolute delight. She even came outside during a snowfall to take a picture of our party in front of the distillery. Before you go: make sure you EAT!!! This is 100% spirits and they are generous with the pours! We lucked out and toured Cooperstown Distillery with the owner, Gene. It was a rainy Saturday in the off-season, and we bought our tickets and lingered in the waiting room, watching as an employee hand bottled some of the bourbon into small bottles shaped like baseballs. I overheard another employee, Ian talking about the bottle, how they're authentic -- have the same number of stitches as a real baseball, there's a cork because baseballs are made from cork, and the base is in the shape of a baseball diamond. Cool! Finally, it was time to go. Gene took his time with our small group, educating us every step of the way. (And my home-brewer boyfriend asked a LOT of questions!) Their combination mash-tun and still was the first third of the tour, and the pot-still was the second third. The grand finale was sampling the wide variety of spirits that they make. He told us that they make 14 different products... we didn't try all of them (I think, I hope!?) but even better, tried some rare finds that aren't even on the market yet. (Wait and see!) There's a vodka, gin, a cask-conditioned gin, a bourbon, Spitball, a liquor that rivals Fireball, whiskey, rum... it was hard to pick a favorite. We saw the tiny bottling station, and learned that every bottle is hand filled, every cork is manually applied, and every label is put on by hand. This is true craftsmanship, folks. Sure, the spirits are a little pricey, but it's their back-breaking work, and blood, sweat and tears in every bottle. Well worth the $10 for the tour, and we came home with three bottles that we can't wait to break open! This was my favorite place to visit on the brewery. The location is excellent, the owner and distillery guide is knowledgeable and open, and the product is quality. The retail presentation is also pretty great. Was able to try some spirits I normally don't like because I don't want a $40 bottle investment into something I hate. I was in Cooperstown for my sons ball game and wanted to visit this local distillery before heading home. Very nice. Friendly woman behind the counter patiently described their various wares. They also allowed me to sample a couple . Really I just wanted a few souvenirs and did pick up a shirt and some glasses...... Oh and their premium Vodka in a baseball shape bottle. I've done a few tours and the presentation of the products along with associated items is indeed impressive and worth time to shop. Well displayed, priced and innovative. The bourbon has several notable layers of taste and appeal. Stands well with higher priced brands. Given a choice I will take Cooperstown. Nice to sip and presented well with mixers and bitters. Stopped into this place after touring the HOF with my brother-in-law and nephew. We hit the place in time for Happy Hour which is highly recommended. The specialty cocktails were great but the best part of the visit was Pierre the bartender. We played Music Jeopardy with a playlist that he had downloaded. It appears that he and I are both big fans of AXS TV. As a life long baseball fan, this was a wonderful end to an absolutely special day. read more

I lived in Cooperstown for a year and watched as this place was built and emerged as a business. However, I actually didn't get a chance to come here until the day I moved out of Cooperstown. I stopped in quick to sample their spirits and I was very pleasantly surprised; the decor is quite nice and the people were very friendly. The spirits were exceptional as well and the bottles they come in are really neat (and baseball-themed). I'm not a huge fan of vodka and never drink it straight, but their vodka was very smooth and could stand on its own without being mixed with anything. The bourbon was very good as well and was better than most bourbons out there. The gin is the real standout here though; it's spiced perfectly and the flavor of the juniper berries really stands out, unlike some other gins that taste pretty much like vodka. All in all, it's a very good place and a great addition to the already stellar beverage scene in the Cooperstown area. read more

The bourbon is very nice. It is similar to buffalo trace but it's slightly sweeter and even more smooth. It's a good bourbon for those who prefer sweeter and less burny bourbons. The vodka and gin weren't bad either. The gin had a fairly strong juniper taste. I recommend getting a box of the bourbon fudge along with your bottle. read more

Just stopped in to sample as I'm flying home and didn't want to add weight to checked bag. Our team bought the empty Doubleday baseball shaped glass decanter for coaches. These are really cool and can take a picture in a few weeks and post. They also had mini baseball decanter filled with whiskey and bourbon for $10 or 3 for $25 in a package. Arrived on Sunday, only the owner was there. He's from the Bronx... and built the business himself. He gave us a free tasting of the Vodka, the Bourbon and the Gin. I think the Bourbon wins, but the other guys went for the gin. The Vodka sure gets it for the shape of bottle. Wow! If I had an spare $45, I would've bought a bottle. The tasting and the tour is free. The booze is $45 a bottle, and there are some books and bitters for sale. There's a tour, if you want one. You'll learn a lot, but there is only one room to tour. It is 530 and it says on Google and yelp that the distillery is open till 6. As soon as we pulled up we were notified he was closing for the day. We are really upset because we were really looking forward to taking a quick peak inside after checking out the ommegang brewery. We stopped in for a tasting at the Railroad Ave location while on the Cooperstown Beverage Trail. We're both bourbon fans, so this was one of our favorite stops on the Trail. We really enjoyed the Beanball Bourbon and Cooper's Classic Whiskey. The Boatyard Rum was an unexpected delight because it's aged in bourbon barrels, giving it a unique flavor. My favorite was the Spitball Whiskey, which is SO much better than the usual Fireball. They don't add any extra sweetener, so you really get the smooth whiskey taste along with quality cinnamon spice. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area! read more
