I enjoy finding hidden gems on Yelp. An excellent small business like Mrs. Mason's deserves more attention. Mrs. Mason's specializes in handmade premium brittle and brittle bonbons. The owner was the only person when I visited on a Sunday morning. She gave me samples, and everything I tried in Mrs. Mason's brittle and bonbon collection was delicious, crunchy, and buttery. I bought an 8 oz. gift box of Heart & Soul Brittle ($26.95) for my college professor. I also purchased an 8 oz. bag of Bare-Naked Cashew Brittle ($22.95) for my mom. They both thought the brittle was delicious. A bit pricey, but it makes an excellent gift for anyone who likes brittle or bonbons.

What a quaint gem of a spot here in downtown Royal Oak…read more I got a small 4 ounce bag of their best friend's brittle. It will make any enemy a best friend after a bite or two of this brittle. The brittle has a nice thicker layer of the toffee, two layers of the white chocolate as well as the semi-sweet chocolate. It's a nice balance of crunchy hard toffee and melt in your mouth chocolates. Makes for a fantastic holiday gift and treat for friends and family alike. The smaller 4 ounce is great to accompany a charcuterie gift set or a stocking stuffer too.

Finally had to ask for menus after being seated for 15 minutes. Didn't get a cocktails until after 30 minutes of being there. Guest ordered an aperol spritz which is on the menu along with umbrellas outside with aperol written on them, however the restaurant doesn't have aperol. They brought a galliano spritz but advertise Aperol, very weird. Also always weird to me when servers have no clue who ordered what and ask the table. Maybe it's because I was a high end server in college. Beef Carpaccio was delicious. Pasta was tasty. Chicken was also nicely done, I didn't enjoy the veal and would not recommend. Big wine selection which was nice. Desserts were nice but limited menu with only 3 traditional options. Food was good enough I would consider going back but service was quite poor and most concerning is that the restaurant was only half full due to holiday weekend. If the restaurant was full, service likely would have been far worse.

We were seated at a booth next to the window where you can see into the back kitchen. Our server was super nice and brought out bread for us. We ordered a spicy margarita and the lychee guava martini. The margarita was way too spicy for me but my friend tolerated it. I loved the martini!! It was so good I actually ended up having 3 of them. We originally planned on entrees but ended up just ordering all kinds of apps and got full off of those. It was really satisfying and we had fun trying all the different things they had. I don't think there was anything we didn't like. We got oysters, beef carpaccio, whipped ricotta, and beef tips. Towards the end of our meal the DJ started setting up and the restaurant was rearranging the furniture to make room. We were told our booth was sold but were welcome to continue in another booth until anything changes. The atmosphere transitioned really smoothly and we enjoyed ourselves. It was fun mingling and dancing and ended up staying until close. I would definitely come here again!
