I am writing to address an ongoing issue concerning damage caused to my property by Lucas Lawn…read moreCare, owned by Corey Schmitter. On September 19, 2024, a member of Lucas Lawn Care's team damaged my fence, specifically one panel and three posts. I have attached photographic evidence of the damage. Additionally, I have a recorded statement from Corey acknowledging that his company was responsible for the damage. After providing Corey with the name of the fence company that installed my fence (Company A), he assured me that, should the necessary parts be in stock, he would replace them over the weekend. Unfortunately, there was no further communication from Corey until almost a month later, when I reached out for an update. At that point, Corey informed me that the replacement parts he had purchased were bent, and he needed to reorder them. Following that, I received no communication until Lucas Lawn Care's team came to mow the lawn 2-3 weeks later. Upon inquiring about the status of the repair, the workers contacted Corey, who informed us the second batch of replacement parts from Home Depot were also damaged and that he was trying to source the parts from another supplier. By early November, I had given Corey ample time to resolve the matter. At that point, I contacted Company A for an estimate. I was informed that the original style of my fence had been discontinued, but they had a similar style available. I received the estimate on November 13, 2024, and forwarded it to Corey, offering him the option to either pay me directly or work with the fence company to settle the matter. Corey indicated that he would be willing to pay either me or the fence company but expressed an interest in procuring the parts himself and attempting to install the repair personally. This request was surprising, given that Corey had already attempted to order replacement parts twice from Home Depot. It also raised questions about why he had not familiarized himself with the correct style of the fence by this point. In the spirit of fairness, I also contacted four additional fence companies. Only one came out (most will only repair if they have installed the fence) but they had the exact style of the fence in stock, though their quote was 30-35% higher than Company A's. On November 20, 2024, Corey continued to push for repairing the fence himself. When I asked if he could bring a sample of the materials, he stated that he could not. On November 21, 2024, I informed Corey that I had decided to proceed with Company A, a professional fence company, for the repairs and that he could reimburse me via Zelle. Corey responded by calling the quote "unreasonable" and suggested that he could either order the materials and make the repairs himself or send half of the estimated cost, with me covering the remaining balance. I expressed my concerns about his qualifications, given that his business specializes in lawn care and not fence repairs. In response, Corey claimed to have installed more than 15 fences for clients, which made me question whether his company had caused damage to that many fences in the two years his company has been in business. I requested before-and-after pictures of the fences he had installed, as well as diagrams of the current fence panel and the one he proposed to install, to better understand how the new panel would match the existing one. Corey did not respond to these requests. On the morning of November 25, 2024, I followed up with him, and later that day, he sent half of the quoted amount via Zelle but ceased further communication. The money he sent is not enough to repair the fence his company damaged. At this point, I am left wondering whether this is the behavior of a reputable business. Damaging property, determining the repair cost to be too high, and offering to pay only what he deems reasonable seems unprofessional.
