The Coombs Creek Trail is a newly opened paved trail in N. Oak Cliff.
As part of the Trinity River Trails Master plan, the trail follows Coombs Creek, a tributary of the river that runs through some of the nicest rolling terrain in Dallas.
Starting at the Stevens Park tennis courts, the trail winds and weaves its way down Kessler Parkway. Portions of the trail on this side are still under construction so watch your step.
You'll have to cross Sylvan Avenue, which can be a bit of challenge to your patience, but once you get to the east side, the trail gets even better.
East of Sylvan, the views are more dramatic and the trail starts to veer away from the road. Scope out the houses high on the hills to your right, or peek down the cliffs into the creekbed on your left. You'll wondering to yourself, "Where am I again?"
Soon you'll find yourself surrounded by greenery and wildflowers as you head to the end of the loop. This is a great spot to let the dog hop into the creek or walk up the levee to scope out Downtown and the Trinity overlook. Either way, expect a dose of peaceful bliss in this under-appreciated gem of a trail.
By the time you arrive back to Stevens Park, you'll have completed a nice roughly 3 mile excursion. The city provides trashcans and benches. Only one water fountain so far, but more could be coming. If your not too finicky, your dog can grab a little sip from the creek at the end of the trail, but be sure to bring an extra bottle just in case. read more
