We hired Muscle Movers for a local in-town move. The move itself was fine. The crew handled the job…read moreaccurately. They got everything from point A to point B without major problems. I paid by Zelle through our bank and received confirmation texts from the bank that the transfer had been sent. Within three minutes of completing the transaction I received a phone call from someone at the moving company. From the first moment the tone was aggressive and accusatory. He insisted the payment had not come through and said I would need to provide a debit card instead. I explained that the money had already left our account and sent the bank confirmation texts, including the initial authorization prompt. He then told me that the bank does not send texts. He continued in the same manner. I provided a reference number. He still continued. Only after I sent a screenshot from the bank app showing the funds had been withdrawn and the payment was processing did he calm down. I understand a small business needs to confirm that payment has cleared. The immediate assumption of bad faith and the persistently rude manner, even after multiple forms of proof were provided, were unnecessary and unprofessional. The moving work was acceptable. The handling of this follow-up call was not.

The guys were likable, but not careful with my heirloom furniture. They ended up with lots of…read morescars and scratches that were not there before the move. I know the furniture was heavy and not easy to transport upstairs, but I saw them make simple, careless mistakes like lay a mirror, with sharp metal brackets on the back, bracket side down on an end table. The end table had a few scratches already, but nothing like what they ended up with after the move. It would of been a lot easier for them if the had taken the drawers out, and been supplied with the right equipment from the company. When I booked the move, the guy on the phone was not upfront with all the extra fees and charges. So, that was a bit of a surprise. Then, after I had paid for the agreed amount of work, the driver slipped in an extra $180.xx charge. I was refunded that charge and the guy was reprimanded. Just be sure to check. He was also the same guy who drove over my rock wall, knocking it down, after I specifically warned him not to.

And plenty of things that should have been moved never made it in the truck. Now I have to hire someone else to dispose of the unwanted items and then move the ones that got left behind. We had a tight coordination window with a U-Haul U-Box delivery, the kind of logistics where one late call unravels everything downstream. He didn't just show up. He showed up calibrated. The crew unloaded the container, split the delivery between our apartment and the storage unit at the complex, and then without being asked reorganized the storage unit so everything actually fit. That last part is what I'll remember. Nobody told them to do it. They just saw a problem and solved it, which meant we didn't have to upgrade to a larger unit. That's not customer service as a script. That's competence expressed as care, the rarest combination in any service business. Five stars. And I don't give those away.

The three stars are for the friendliness of the workers (really nice!) and the fact that they moved us in some pretty extreme heat. Dependable was recommended to us by a new neighbor and they were one of the few companies that were able to fit us into their schedule late notice (we were only given a week's notice by our builder for closing on our new home). Once the moving crew arrived with their own 26' truck, they asked for a tour and what would be included. They even packed up pretty quickly, but arguably not efficiently. They left a kid power wheels jeep and other various boxes and items, stating the jeep wouldn't fit (we found the other random items after they left). We had movers pack our belongings last year PLUS items from a 10X10 storage unit (including another table, and huge sectional) into the same size truck, so we were a bit puzzled. We spent a ton of time carefully labeling the boxes with contents and room stickers. So many boxes ended up in the wrong rooms or even the wrong floor. Not sure what I am going to do with silverware/kitchen labeled box in my master closet or a knife block in my toddler's room? Hanging bags of clothes with hangers sticking out thrown haphazardly in a heap on the floor. Our child's bed frame was reinstalled upside down and popped apart when sat upon. Lastly, the storm door they removed at our previous home was not reinstalled and we had no tools handy to screw it back in. A bit bummed about this experience. Hoping we do not need to move again, but if we do, I would admittedly look elsewhere.
