Soon after she went on medication for reflux our nursing journey really began to improve. Dawnita always had great advice, she dove into the numbers with me and as a type A mom I really appreciated it. She always equipped me with what to say to our pediatrician and together we really helped my baby thrive. I saw Dawnita both at my home and her clinic a few times and both experiences were great her scheduler Shawna was also extremely responsive and helpful. I didn't have great experiences with the LC at the hospital and clinic, I was so nervous meeting Dawnita but she instantly put me at ease and offered great advice. I can't recommend Dawnita enough!

Dawnita is phenomenal. Both my partner and I absolutely adore her. On top of it, Shawn is…read moreincredible!! She works with Dawnita and has so much experience and expertise that I have relied on her for questions anytime. And Shawn is so on top of her game that she will work you in to Dawnita's schedule if needed, even though Dawnita is so sought after. I found out we could do a prenatal lactation appointment, which I was excited about because everyone tells you to get a million different things and spend a ton of money on breastfeeding products and you don't know what to actually get. On top of it, you go to the hospital preparing for labor but no one really prepares you for once the baby comes! So I wanted to get some guidance on how to breastfeed in the hospital as well. We read reviews for a bunch of different lactation specialists and I honestly thought that the reviews for Dawnita and Shawn were almost too good to be true. I even asked her if these were incentivized and she said absolutely not. They are just a testament to who she truly is, which is clear once you get to work with her. My experience at the hospital with breastfeeding was not good, which I understand is many Women's experience. I got conflicting messages and no real help. Then i was tossed out on my butt to figure it out alone at home (the nurse legit said she wouldnt answer my question and said I have to figure it out myself because i had signed the discharge paperwork). I left in a complete panic that I would not be able to take care of my baby. I have hyper sensitive nipples so I was in a ton of pain (felt like super fun razorblades). Everyone kept saying it was the baby's latch, etc. No one gave validation to what I was feeling with my sensitivity. I sent a panicked email to Shawn and Dawnita before we even left the hospital (so glad I has established that relationship so I had a lifeline), and they got me in for a virtual appointment that very day we got back from the hospital - on top of it, they even scheduled me for an at home appointment the very next day too so I wouldn't panic. Our virtual appointment got me through that fear day one - my partner was holding an iPad up to my boobs while I tried to nurse my baby (looking back, i can only laugh). Dawnita never made me feel rushed or crazy. Dawnita and Shawn walked us through the next number of weeks and made me feel empowered during every dark moment and brought confidence. When Dawnita walks into your house, she glows. And somehow she always finds a way to make you feel better about yourself - even when you're barefoot in a nightgown with milk stains, unshowered, no makeup, and your hair a mess. But more importantly, I'm now six weeks in and my baby is completely thriving. In fact, she gains more than the expected weight. Dawnita does baby weigh ins (so fun), weighted feeds, answers crazy questions (even if not directly to breastfeeding - like helping with baby's first bath), and guides you through YOUR problems meeting you where you are at! She helped evaluate my sensitive nipples, checked the baby's latch, took away my fears about ties (because everyone raises this), and gave me tools for what I needed - including nipple shields and ways to increase my milk supply without going overboard. She also reassured me and provided solace every time someone else made me fearful. I also love that she's minimal so you don't have to buy a bunch of stuff! While other people are taking supplements and doing lots of things, she doesn't sell you things if you don't need them!! She also doesn't judge if you decide not to breastfeed, which I find to be so important. No more shaming mamas!! Speaking of which, everyone always wanted to tell me that my diet and other things were the cause for any discomfort my baby was going through and Dawnita always made me see that it wasn't the case!! I could go on about Dawnita and Shawn forever, but they changed our journey and I'm so grateful that they helped us through the tough road of breastfeeding. One sidenote. Do not let cost and money stand in your way. Dawnita works through the Lactation Network and they work with your insurance so that you have no co-pay. Plus, she travels anywhere in Orange County to meet you at your house (because who wants to travel after having a baby?!)!! I think people like Dawnita and Shawn who work through the Lactation Network to help moms are angels on this earth.

I found Labor of Love by doing some of my own research online. And thank God I did! My doula,…read moreKaren, was my rock throughout my labor and was 100,000 percent amazing--I'll definitely be working with her for my second! A little backstory: I was overwhelmed and so nervous about finding "the one" person to be a part of the most important event of my life. After doing my research and reading through all these bios, I honestly was left feeling overwhelmed, especially knowing how indecisive I can be. I knew I just had to trust my intuition and my gut on this one! After looking at Karen's bio on their website, I had such a good feeling. Staci (the owner), who was super friendly and professional, helped me get connected with Karen, and I booked an interview right away! Karen was so sweet and asked me about my pregnancy experience so far. We discussed how I wanted my birth to go and any concerns I had. There wasn't any pressure to hire her, and it just felt like she was already invested in me, like I was already family. I even had her video chat with my husband to make sure we both felt comfortable and vibed well together--and we sure did! Overall, Karen ended up being the perfect balance of knowledge, experience, and professionalism. It was the most perfect amount of care I could have asked for. She was also such an advocate for my birth plan to work out. Before, during, and after my labor and birth, she was always naturally in tune with what I needed. She was never overbearing, worked so well with my husband, and gave him space to be a part of my support team as well. I am so grateful to have come across Labor of Love

My experience with Labor of Love was almost two years ago now but continues to upset me when thinking back on my experience. We hired Lauren as our doula, who made it clear she expected us to go far past my due date as a first time mom. While it's possible for that to happen, it didn't in my case. At 39 weeks and at 5am while in active labor and getting ready to head to the hospital, she let us know she had Covid. Her backup was Karen, who I wish we hired to begin with as she is far more caring and professional. Though unfortunately our experience still fell short and we ultimately delivered without Karen present. We were left feeling like we invested a lot of emotion and money into this process with ultimately no help. Staci has been incredibly rude to us since then and even revoked our access to watch her training videos, sending me a link to pay her once again when wanting to rewatch for our now second baby on the way. Karen herself even recommended we ask for a partial refund due to our experience, but Staci lacks the professionalism and courtesy to her clients. Truly mindblowing that she revoked access to the training videos after we had already paid for them. I would stay far away and recommend a more experienced and caring doula group.

My husband found Aileen online out of desperation at week 3 after I had tried every nipple butter and pillow on the market. From day one, Aileen has been a knowledgeable, calm voice in this process and has transformed breastfeeding from an extremely painful task into a sweet moment with my baby. She came to our home and first observed how I was breastfeeding, then made position adjustments for a better latch. She weighs our baby before and after feedings, and it's so reassuring to know he's getting enough milk to keep growing. On top of that, she answers all 1,000 of my questions, even the ones that aren't related to breastfeeding Aileen has helped not only with the physical pain but also with the mental burden, constantly reassuring me that everything will work out. Our baby is now 2 months old and so healthy. He can feed without a pillow and latches perfectly. Aileen still comes because as he grows, things change, and I just love learning from her. If breastfeeding seems impossible right now and nothing seems to work for you, you need Aileen!

5 stars for exceptional service!…read more I was surprised to find out my health insurance covered 5 days of 24/7 live-in care with a postpartum doula. Veronica was my point of contact/consultant that helped make everything possible. She worked hard to find me a doula I was happy with and was very responsive with all my questions. My doula, Yurong, was absolutely amazing. I was initially skeptical of having a stranger live with me for 5 days but she surpassed all my expectations. Yurong gave me tips on taking care of a newborn, tips only an experienced doula/mother would know. She cooked 3 delicious meals a day and kept our kitchen area clean. She took the night shift and soothed baby during cries. Yurong was on top of it - she sprung out of bed at the first sign of fussiness and soothed baby until she was ready to feed. The first 5 days with a newborn is rough but Yurong made it much easier for us. She's so genuinely caring and sweet, I cried when she left. I would recommend Cooings without hesitation to anyone looking for a postpartum doula.

Me and my husband connected with their cordinator and she was great in explaining things and her presentation. We learnt that as a next step we get to connect with potential night doulas or live in Nannies. We had mentioned that we want someone who is bilingual at the very least - English speaking. Evelyn mentioned that some folks know how to speak English and others use translation apps (this won't work for us because imagine in your postpartum phase and having to communicate via app about your baby needs etc). Due to being in my 38+ week, I wanted things to move fast in terms of selecting a doula. We have been interviewing quite a few at this time. Next day we got 3 profiles, one was bilingual, other two were not. We decided to interview the one which was bilingual. It took two days to get a confirmation if this doula was available for an interview. We met Dan (doula) for a video call and she seemed nice and could speak well. We confirmed with her availability for the next week and she said she is fully available. We were content after our call. Now comes the weird part. We msged Evelyn that we liked the doula and are ready to proceed with her within 1 hr of our interview and we were awaiting her response. We didn't hear anything from the doula the next day, and then again nothing until EOD next day. Finally Evelyn msged us that the doula will not be available because she is anticipating an emergency. This was a big disappointment and a huge waste of our time. If there were not enough English or bilingual speaking doulas then we should have informed about it sooner. Second, the doula who we interviewed 'confirmed' her availability with us and then suddenly is anticipating an emergency. Nature of an emergency is such that it happens suddenly and you can't really anticipate it so it seems a bit dicey to me. Overall I felt this was a huge waste of time for us - the presentation Cooings provided was great but the follow through on an actual doula that meets your needs has a long way to go and is a big question mark. I don't have much confidence in them at this point.

It took 3 months, which was perfect for our timeline and what felt so fast for being on the pill for over 10 years. Megan knew I was pregnant the day I found out. She has incredible intuition and just so happened to text me minutes around the time I tested positive! I will always remember those 9 months of pregnancy fondly, especially because I had Megan checking in on me/us, letting me know what I can expect at certain doctor appointments, and always just being a text/call away for all of the random questions I had (I am located in Northern CA). The week of our due date, Megan continued to check in on us. Our baby was overdue, but I was never worried because Megan had taught me how normal that is. She even prepared me for what to expect from others: nonstop texts/calls of where the baby is, of course! Because Megan prepped me so well, I was ready for anything and didn't let anything or anyone get to me. I am so fortunate for her help with the expectation-setting; it really went a long way. Baby is now earthside and Megan continues to be there for us. She has made sure that things are going, like breastfeeding, labor and delivery recovery, and more, while making sure me and my husband's mental health are still alive and well! I have also attended a couple of the Friday meetup groups when I was in So Cal and seriously love them.
