I stopped in for a treat. It was over 4 years since my last review. Sign on the wall said they were celebrating 25 years. I'm thinking they changed hands in that time but unsure. I enjoyed my choices but found them overly sweet. Think they could cut back on the sugar and be just as delicious. Prices have gone up in 4 years, quite a bit. The cheesecake bar was flavorful with pineapple and coconut. They're open 7 to 5 weekdays and 8 to 2 on Saturdays, closed Sundays. Their sandwiches are now $13 and $14, a little steep when I'm looking for lunch. Breakfast quiche is do-able at $6. The front door entry is really congested (exterior) making it a "crowded" unappealing entry. The store is also crowded with the long cold cases. I'd only consider grab & go. Thinking it needs a "refresh" with focus on illusion of more space and maybe some new recipes. They have lots of bar cookies, cookies, cake pops in the case. Some things (like cheesecake) look old. Macarons look much smaller with much less filling. If in the area I'll stop in but it's not one I go out of my way to visit, due to sweetness, cost, and lack of space. read more

This little gem in the downtown area of Bartow, Florida did not disappoint! Not only are all of their confections amazing, their breakfast and lunch menus are incredible. If you like savory food, this is your place. A must try is their signature curry chicken salad. However, the Turkey Thyme sandwich may be my new favorite. The Hawaiian Dessert Bars are my favorite and the peanut butter mousse is so rich that I can eat it for days. They also have a selection of salads and soups if you are looking for a lighter lunch. Make sure you try their selection of teas, to include the blueberry lavender. Coffee? Yes, they have everything from espresso to frozen, including just a cup of joe. I discovered the Cookie Jar Bakeshop during the recent Bartow Bloomin' Arts festival. It is on Main street near the historic courthouse. Having missed breakfast I was in the mood for some sweet treats. The Cookie Jar has a breakfast menu that includes bagels, croissants, and quiche, soups and salads, sandwiches, and all kinds of coffee drinks and tea. They also sell some gift items like lotions and dip mixes. candles, and soap. On Wednesday's you can purchase a fully cooked dinner. Check their website for details. They also manage an event space called The Nest. The main reason I came in was for the baked goods and they looked tempting. They had some delicious looking cake pops but I ended up selecting a chocolate covered strawberry, a German chocolate bar, a gooey bar, and a red velvet cookie. All of that was a $17 including a Snapple. Seemed a little high but everything was good. I ended up picking at the box throughout the day. So I waited a bit before reviewing this bakery. I needed 2 8" cake, one raspberry mousse and one chocolate fudge. I called some of the bakeries I had used in the past and they only used raspberry jam filling. I knew of 3 other bakeries that definitely made raspberry mousse but they were out of the way. I wanted a specific chocolate cake (exactly like Carlos Cake Boss) and even sent photo. I decided to try Cookie Jar since they were close to my house. I ordered the cakes a few days before the party. We communicated through text and everything seemed ok. The day before, I asked when to pick up and was told it would by 12 noon. I then asked how much it would be...no response. The following day for some reason I thought they closed at 4 and planned on heading there at 3 but at 2pm I got a call from Shanna (?) asking where I was and informed they closed for the day!! Crap, I had no clue...my bad! She did tell she thought I was picking it up at noon. I told her no she told me it would be ready after noon but nonetheless I apologized and she agreed to meet with me at 5:30 but would have to pay now. I agreed. She went on to tell me that the raspberry cake would be $125 since I was busy it didn't immediately register that that was not the total for both cakes. She then informed me the chocolate cake would be $155 because it was homemade fudge. WTF!!! I explained to her I order gourmet cakes all the time I even order off Goldbelly! She then replied well then this should be nothing for you because goldbelly cakes are so expensive! What?? I have never spent even $100 on a cake from there! We went back-and-forth and I told her I asked the cost of the cakes and she never replied back to me and her response was "oh I thought you had already ordered from us before" She then told me she charges six dollars per serving. There is no way in hell you can get 20 servings out of this 8 inch cake. Yes, I paid...I needed the cakes!!! Were the cakes good? Meh, not $100+++ worth. There was absolutely nothing special about them. In fact, the piping on the raspberry cake was so sloppy. I have had cakes from all over the world, NYC, Paris, London, Switzerland, San Francisco. I was married to a baker for 14 years. I know cakes! I am including a photo of the cake I wanted to order online. It was a 10 inch for $64!!! I learned my lesson to verify the price but never would I thought it be almost $300 for 2 8-inch cakes. read more

I would prefer to do three and a half but they deserve more than a 3 so I am giving them a 4. This is a cute little corner bakery that offers a variety of tasty delights. I do not recommend a breakfast sandwich since it was a bit cold and not toasted but I do suggest a delicious peanut butter dream bar or a chocolate chip woopie. The staff was kind but lacking proper utensil to make a latte but my cappuccino was yummy none the less. Definitely worth stopping by for treat. read more

My wife ordered cookies for a baby shower (her first grandchild). The Cookie Jar called us because we were past our pick-up time. We told them we were running late but we're hurrying there. When we got our order of cookies they were not individually wrapped as pre-ordered and pre-paid. Once they pulled up the order and realized they had made a mistake I figured it would be "all hands on deck" and everyone would work as a team to fix the mistake since there were no other customers in the bakery and they knew we were already running late before when we walked in the store. No, only 2 of the 3 worked to bag the order of cookies. I was quite surprised they only apologized. The apology was nice, but when premium dollar is paid, premium service is expected. We didn't get that. They didn't even comp the few cookies I got for my kids during the 10 minute wait to bag the order. Upon our return to do the tasting she provided no cake(which I had emailed her about almost a month prior). I informed her I do not eat beef or pork and she topped my meal with meatballs anyways. We dined in Saturday morning, April 23, a little after 10. After a delay (no one working the counter), we ordered spinach and mushroom quiche, everything bagels with cream cheese, and coffee, paid & sat down. After a couple of minutes, the counter staff returned holding a plastic bag of bagels and asked for our choice between blueberry or plain. So, I get that sometimes things run out, but I am a bit disappointed to dine at a "bakery" that doesn't make bagels. The coffee is self-serve; unlucky us, that was out as well, time to make a new pot. Quiche arrived, microwave heated, leaving the crust soggy and me wondering if the quiche is made in house. Wow! Worst service of my life!! I'm not kidding. I wanted a custom cake for my son's birthday party. I reached out to them through text 4 days ahead of time. They said they could do it. I am asking questions through text about what time should I pick up, etc and I had to text again (the next day) to get a response. They told me I need to call in and pay and gave me a price. I called and paid and what I paid was more then what they said it was going to be. So I text them and they said tax and credit card fee. I was ok with the tax but I did mention that no one informed me of the credit card fee. Shana, the one who I was dealing with to order the cake said it was my card that charged the fee, my bank doesn't charge fees like that and I explained that to her so she said she canceled the order and sorry for the inconvenience. I said I didn't want to cancel the order and I got no response. I texted again and asked if the order was canceled or do I still need to pick it up on Saturday, again no response. My only recourse was to go to the store and find out. I got to the store and asked to speak with the manager. Well, Shana is the manager, talk about professional, she said she already canceled the order and it was her fault she shouldn't have said she would do the order on such short notice and that she canceled it because she doesn't want an unsatisfied customer. Well I never asked for the order to be canceled and I wasn't happy and I got no response, In my opinion that is NOT how you treat a customer and that's NOT how you run a business. Very unprofessional. This was my first time dealing with them and my last!! I strongly advise to stay away and find another bakery that treats their customers right. After all of that happened I wouldn't have wanted the cake anyway. Shana was very immature on how she handled the situation. They need to find a new manager pronto!!! read more

Tried Cookie Jar in Bartow Fl for lunch. Ordered a chicken salad on a croissant lunch box which comes with a drink, chips and cookie. The chicken salad had no flavor, I had to add salt and pepper when I got home. The coconut cookie was pretty good though. I also ordered 4 cake pops and 2 pear scones. The cake pops were ok, scones were dry as can be, they did not provide the honey butter icing on top and to be honest, we didn't end up eating them because of the dryness. The cake pops and scones cost $15 and the lunch was $14. For thirty dollars I would have expected better quality. The signs said the sandwich comes with cheese so I picked the kind I wanted...when I was rung up they tried to charge $1 for a slice of cheese, telling me provolone was a "specialty" cheese. Never heard that before and even with rising costs, $1 is steep for A slice of cheese. Before charging extra for something you should ask your customer if the item is wanted. There was a young girl in there working, she appeared to be still learning. There was another customer in there trying to order a cake who was visibly becoming irritated because other customers kept coming in and ordering as she was trying to make her cake order. A woman who appeared to be the owner was making some kind of list behind the counter. She never once offered to help the young girl with the customers or the cake order. She was rude when speaking to the young lady working and then with customers in the shop just walked away to do something else. I wanted to love this cute little cookie shop but definitely not impressed :( read more

Well, we never actually got to the point of tasting any of their food. The owner lacks professionalism is so many ways. We met the weekend of Halloween to discuss catering a large party. She asked for "grace" because they were so busy getting ready for a parade the next day. She stated she would have a quote to me in about two weeks, which was fine. Problem is, I heard nothing from her for six weeks. I called and left two messages for her which were never returned. When I did reach her, she was extremely rude from the moment she answered the phone. Again, I was asked to show her "grace" at least three times. She then preceded to tell me all of the reasons she had not be able to get my quote done. She was now slammed for the Christmas parade and short staffed. She even stated that she should not have even answered the phone because she was so busy. I got the same story from her now that I got 6 weeks prior. As a professional, you never tell a client all of your issues! You simply ask for more time, You NEVER lecture a customer and you don't use a mighty and powerful word such as grace as though it's going to get you a pass all of the time. And perhaps she should have taken her own words of grace and extended them to a potential customer. His grace is sufficient, and I believe that with all of my heart. But grace is not a word you use the way she did in an effort to not be accountable for your own actions or non-actions. I hope she reads this review and takes inventory. All she had to do was contact me instead of me chasing her. Rude, disrespectful and unprofessional was never on the menu. read more

My husband and I were over charged for our tea, my lid was not on all the way, it was so hot, there was no sleeve offered, I went to double the cup and when I accidentally spilled the whole cup, instead of replacing it the rude owner/manager told the employee to charge me for another tea. At that point I was flabbergasted and walked out. I get mom and pop shops but the rudeness of the owner and how she acted turned us off to this place. Delicious pastry and coffee! I went in on the way to a coffee shop to discover that the cookie jar also sold coffee. It smelled so good in there that I never made it to the other shop! I got a small croissant and a caramel macchiato - they were both superb. Best local bakery croissant I have had in central Florida, by far.
