My fiance (at the time) and I had scheduled a taste testing for our wedding cake and were surprised at the (huge) portions given. We each got a half cupcake of each flavor we tried...I believe it was 4 or 5. And then a tablespoon each of the various filling flavor combinations of interest. All the cupcakes were in various stages of being very dry. I believe our taste testing was scheduled outside their regular operating hours so we thought maybe we were just given leftover inventory that would have otherwise been on their way out. The only flavor that wasn't dry looked like a slice of pound cake, and it was the almond cake - and it was incredibly moist. I was worried about the inconsistency from the tasting, but in the end we ordered the 3-tier vanilla mousse almond cake. There have been some instances that communication (via email) was delayed and I started to question their ability to fulfill my order. I was ready to give them my money to secure our date but I felt like I was hounding them so I could pay initially. Kristen & Tim (assuming it's a wife and husband business) make a great team though! They were empathetic and understanding when we suddenly had to change our venue quite a distance due to an extenuating circumstance. As our wedding date quickly approached, I've sent off my vision/inspiration/theme/ colors to get a visual of what to expect and Kristin did not disappoint! She perfectly illustrated our desired style/look on the requested mockup. And the final result of the actual cake was beautifully and deliciously executed! Sugar & Slice was definitely the best choice we could have made for our wedding cake. Like the review before me, their cakes are so moist and delicious, and their pricing is incredibly reasonable. We went with the mandarin orange cake and pineapple filling for one tier, and almond cake with cherry filling for the other. One of my few regrets the day of is that, because of timing (the cake came out during dancing), quite a few people missed out on cake. My husband and I only got the mandarin orange on the day of (which luckily was our favorite flavor), but we did get to bring him a big chunk of it which was great for our day after party. Tim was also incredibly nice and easy to work with. I can't recommend them enough! read more

Finally stopped in! I only pass this place every day. The guy that waited on my friend and I was so sweet, it was a pleasure having him wait on us. Asked about pies for Thanksgiving and he told us they run about $16-18. How cheap! The butter cake was phenomenal. I loved it so much, I had to look up a recipe. I was in the area of Sugar & Slice Bakery so I decided to stop in and purchase some cupcakes. With so many people self quarantining and using social distancing I thought that it would be nice to pick up some special treats for others. The store was empty and the display case was somewhat limited. I was hoping that it was because they were baking less and not because they are letting the inventory run out in fear of mandatory closings. I purchased Boston Cream, strawberry and chocolate Oreo. The Boston Cream was a vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting. No cream was in the center and the cupcake was incredibly dry. It taste super stale and was hugely disappointing. The strawberry cupcake had amazing frosting but again the cake horribly dry and stale tasting. Thankfully the chocolate Oreo cupcake was less dry and somewhat edible. read more

We took our son on a trip to LEGOLAND for his birthday, and decided on our drive down that we should try to have a cake made for him. This bakery stood out to me most based off the pictures on their facebook and website. I gave them less than 48 hour notice with this cake but they did an AMAZING JOB! I was definitely impressed with their work! The cake was so moist and delicious. The buttercream was definitely on the sweeter side for me, but the birthday boy had no complaints! We visited Sugar and Slice Bakery for the first time today as we took a walk through downtown Winter Haven. We picked out three cookies to try, Chocolate Chip M & M, Sugar Cookie with raspberry filling and a chocolate chip with chocolate filling. Very friendly staff and owners and very flavorful cookies. This bakery features specialty cakes and cupcakes which we had the opportunity to see a few waiting to be picked up. An awesome shark cake that looked like a shark coming up out of the water, a box of Incredibles cupcakes to celebrate a birthday, a cake in the shape of the number 18 to celebrate a birthday. Living in Florida, many of us get our cakes from Publix...Sugar and Slice is a great option for something flavorful and different. We WILL be back. read more

Small shop I bought 3 cupcakes all were dry with too much icing. Thought I had found something like Kami Kakes but was I wrong.

This review is from my experience in August. I live out of state and was looking for something nice for my Mom's birthday. I saw this bakery on Facebook and was excited that they offered delivery. I called a week in advance and ordered a cupcake bouquet. They were very nice and took my order. I called back 3 days, 2 days and the day before to ensure they were in track for delivery, confirmed address, etc. I called my Mom on her birthday in the afternoon and asked if she received them, she had not. I called the bakery to get an ETA and they said they were delivered. Ugh!!! After all my confirming, it still went wrong. Come to find out they were delivered on a completely different street! My poor Mom was driving around the neighborhood, looking for her cupcakes. Once she found them, same address #, different street, she found the box sitting on someone's front step. Not even a call to my Mom that they had dropped them off. Of course, my Mom decided not to eat them since she had no idea how long they were there. I called the bakery and they apologized and said they would give me a refund. The total was $32.00 and they refunded me $10.00. What a bummer. :( read more

Horrible service and rude rude rude owners. My cake looked nothing like what I ordered and then I expressed it to the owner and she was so rude and nasty to me. I had another experience with the husband --i assume it's her husband--and he was rude to me to. I will never as long as I live order from this bakery. I'll attach what I ordered versus what I got. This bakery sucks. I would definitely not recommend. Instead of a refund, she offered to redo the cake and it will take 2 to 3 hours which I don't have time for that. Or I can get a credit towards a cake in the future. I will never order from them so that would be a waste. What a horrible company. She treated me as if we were friends rather than doing business. I don't know this woman, Kristen the owner and the way she was talking to me was as if we bumped into each other on the street. What an angry woman. If they couldn't do it she should've just said that instead of trying to get money from people and doing a horrible job. I'm so disgusted. Nothing like the great pastries and gorgeous custom cakes of the previous owner. We were long time customers. Placed a large owner with new owner for custom cake and several dozen decorated cupcakes. The cake was not professionally decorated. There were no stand up decorations as we had requested only flat against the cake. The cupcakes looked lovely on the exterior and dry and old tasting on the inside. Will not return. read more
