I have only been able to eat here once out of 4 attempts because their late night drive thru is ridiculously slow! There have been at least 10-12 caRs in the drive thru on all the occasions and I have waited at least 15 minutes each time to only move up 1-2 cars. If I had waited it would have taken at least 30-45 minutes to get an order. It is absolutely frustrating and makes no sense at all! read more

This definitely has not been my best experience. The food came out quicker than usual. I decided to get the steak version of their burger. It comes with sautéed onions and A1 sauce. The onions were so abundant! BUT they were flopped onto one side of my burger, leaving the other half onion-deprived. I can handle rebuilding a burger. The main issue I had was concerning the restrooms. There was NO TOILET PAPER, the water was running in the sink, there was water all over the floor that didn't appear to coming from the sink...concerning. I had to remove my pants to prevent them from getting wet by normally pulling them down. This was just an acrobatic feat. The good food is not worth the hassle. Visit another location. read more

I am trying to figure out something about Cook Out why all the secrets why not a web site? I looked on several phone listing web sites just to get the number and address I even looked on the receipt not so much as a phone number .If I had a business I would have it EVERYWHERE ... I had to call a store about 40 miles away just to get a phone number then... I had to call the store and get the address Ok I ate there they tell me there is a 800 number to call if I want info on the Company but, on a Saturday I doubt it.( On the bags and cups they tell me there is a number sorry I did not get a bag I dined inside and I threw the cup away) So I ate there for the first time yesterday it was hot yesterday even in NC! They might as well had the door open either that or they are trying really hard to save on their Electric bill the ceiling fans where not even on!!! So I walk in look at their combo special you get a burger or another sandwich, fries and one other side . I get a burger with cheese, tomato fries and a bacon wrap was one of the sides could not figure it out anyway ... Cheese burger bacon wrap and fries large drink came to $5.02 not bad for all the food . I like the way the Burgers taste. the char taste that I first tasted many years ago on Hardees but, has since gone away was there, fries Hot showing skin ( do not think they hand cut those ) and that wrap terrible burnt bacon on a little burrito shell with a ranch sauce on it. And "T" Most of the food here is good except for the wrap. I would have given 5 but, the heat problem could they not see that people where just sitting there about to pass out from the heat ? And bacon wrap thing nasty . Manager... if you read this kindly teach your employees a little customer service skills . I know that it fast food and they make well could be much better but, I have heard they make pretty decent . I usually don't give franchise restaurants above three stars, but Cook Out is one of my favorite places in the South. Yes, I am a burger joint, and yes, I am vegetarian. I adore coming to this cook out because they can create a dish for a veg-head. For example, I can get a cheese quesadilla with two side and a soda for less than $5. My sister always gets the double cheese burger with double side of chicken nuggets and a bottle water. Again, her meal is less than $5. Since this our half way stop between DC and Montgomery, Alabama, this is considered a quick treat that fits in our budget. I would recommend anyone check it out. If you are one diet, let it go for a moment. Your taste buds will thank you! read more

If you want FAST food in Salisbury after 5PM, this isn't it. This location has never been able to manage a drive-thru line. Average wait time is around 35mins to make it through, and 75% of the time your order is wrong. It's clearly a management/ownership issue because it's been this way for years. After trying Cook Out for a second time I will give it a solid four. Tonight's food was better overall. Husband had hot dog meal, fries, hush puppies, and peanut butter banana shake (again)- no complaints from him. I had the "BBQ" chicken combo. The sandwich had mayo on it which I didn't read and that's normally a deal breaker but because it wasn't a ton I still are it. It had a little BBQ sauce and three pickles. My aides were fries and a chicken quesadilla. The quesadilla was spicy and the chicken was grey, but I've had worse. Tonight's fries were cooked better than the previous nights and were hot. I had the orange push pop shake which tasted exactly like a push pop. Price was great $13 for two combos with shakes. Heck yea. Btw the pic of the menu is outdated. Oml they hardly ever get my order right I must go there 3 times a week my life is so busy. They normally have very friendly service however some staff needs to be gone. If you simply can't follow directions you shouldn't be there. Whenever I order I'm very specific this time I ordered A barbecue sandwich hold the Texas Pete!!! Really easy right yeah not apparently they get it wrong almost every time I also hate that there's no callback number so you can't just call them so I have to drive all the way back. However their food is outstanding i've never gotten anything cold or not at the temperature that I was supposed to be at. So all in all they are good just not the best! read more

The fiancee's favorite stop in town. Being from Lexington, BB_Q outside of the hometown is nearly a cardinal sin. However, it is my responsibility to try to enjoy things with her. The pricing is interesting. Steak N' Shake would charge you more for the shake... and the burger. You just can't get the same quality choices anywhere. Cook-Out has this interesting blend of a small cafe's custom burger options, and side items. This stop has a seating area, which the joint in Winston-Salem does not. Each table has the same curved shaped Plywood look a family restaurant would. (Double pun for 15pts) Seriously, I tried the BBQ/Slaw tray and I was pleased. I wouldn't drive out of my way for this food. However, the after meal feelings cole slaw can give your esophagus? Nope. Q is drenched with a sauce or spiced to cover the quality of pork? No! This was decent. I ordered it again before I made this review. I could do without the Styrofoam cups. The pricing may reflect the paper cost savings. If so, we'll take the package deal. The joint is a little cold. But, they have my father's alma mater (Pefiffer) hanging off the walls. Made up the difference with internal warmth. read more

I do love the made-to-order shakes here...so many flavors, but I am not a fan of the burgers. Sorry. Easy to get in and out if you are on the side road, and not Innes street. As far as fast food goes, this place gets five stars. No cold, stale burgers or fries (or chicken sandwiches for that matter) here. The milkshakes are fantastic! If you can imagine a combination of their flavors, they will make it. Try cappachino oreo, its fantastic. As an added bonus, cheap to the point of making Taco Bell seem expensive. read more

We stopped here on our way though town and weren't sure what to expect...the decor leaves quite a bit to be desired, but the line out the door made us think they were on to something. We were pleasantly surprised at the "combo meal" and all of the choices you have and then we saw the list of milkshakes- 40 of them. The burgers truly tasted like ones you'd find at the 4th of July cook out, nothing fancy, just cook out food. First time at Cook Out happened to be at the Salisbury store on Innes Blvd. The building was closed up except for the walk-up window and drive-thru. I decided to do drive-through because it was hot that day and I didn't want to wait outside for my food. When we got to where to place the order, a surly employee asked through the speaker what we wanted. I had to ask about combos and differences between the trays and I could tell he was irritated for having to make the effort to earn his paycheck. I could only hear him half-way and I had to repeat the order several times. Not someone to be the front man at the take-out window. When the food arrived the hamburger was about half the size of the stale bun and the french fries were under-cooked. My wife got onion rings and said they were just okay. Well, this is my first and last time at this Cook Out. Maybe other locations are better than this one but next time I pass through Salisbury it will be Chick-fil-a. read more

Any place that has hush puppies and corndogs as a side item is awesome. Plus they have about 50 different shake flavors so your bound to find one or 10 you'll like. The burgers taste just like they were cooked by dad in the backyard on the old grill. read more

I wish I could give zeros stars. I ordered myself a Oreo mint milkshake and then I got an Oreo it's not that bad because there still is the Oreo even though it did say Oreo mint on the receipt. Then my sister ordered food and a milkshake they didn't give her any of her food and then we ended up being at a fast food restaurant for almost an HOUR! And then they charged us $2 extra for a drink that CAME WITH the tray. The family we ate with also had to wait because they skipped parts of their order too. When I went up to go ask for our food we had been waiting on they got the order wrong and the lady said oh well they've been waiting for 20 min just give it to them! The cookout special is one of the best fast food values in North Carolina. A good meal for a very reasonable price. One caution however - this particular cookout does not do the special on shakes that other cook out locations to the south (Kannapolis, Concord) do. Most of the other cookout units have a special flavor of the week up on the road sign which is priced at $0.99. This cookout location has the flavor listed but it is at full regular price. If ya want a milkshake - go here! The rest of their food is good too, but I never go here to eat, its for the milkshakes! They will "customize" your milkshake for you as well, so there are waaay more options then the 40 listed on the board. I usually get a banana, peanut butter, fudge shake - sooo good! And with banana in there it makes it good for me right?? :) The oreo mint shake is good as well! But - don't expect to use a straw, they are very thick shakes and ya gotta use a spoon! PERFECT! Cookout is just...OK. The service was better when they first came to town. I had them in Raleigh before ours came. The drive through is awkward and people try to drive into it from the topside instead of circling the building. This will aggravate you, as will the crowds of teenagers who flock there on the weekends. They don't know how to park and they will walk in front of you as you try to enter the parking lot. The food varies from pretty good to eh. I usually get the chicken tray and the chicken comes in sizes ranging from half the size of the bun to twice as big. The other night i got a tomato that was twice as thick as the chicken. The buns are always greasy and sometimes come with black smudges from the grill they cooked the chicken on. I haven't got a chicken sandwich that tastes bad though. The fries are pretty great. I don't think since they have been there i have got burnt fries in my own tray. The banana Nut milkshake is delicious. Once my girlfriend got one with pineapple which they decided to add to my banana nut also. Not to great. The chocolate mint tastes like thin mint cookies and is good. read more

I have waited to review this place as I had hoped it would improve. The food is ok but if you can find another restaurant in the chain go there as they are way too busy apparently and each time get the orders wrong. The staff at the drive thru window are impolite and quite harsh at times as you get the feeling they prefer you not bother them. My family & I ate there yesterday around 5pm and it was a horrible dining experience. The restrooms looked like they havent been cleaned in ages. The cashier was very nice, but the food not so much. We have been going there since it opened. Yesterday was our last time. My husband ordered a Cajun Chicken sandwich and the chicken was so small it should have been a bun sandwich. I ordered a Cookout Style 1/4 lb burger and it make me so sick afterwards. My 2 year old daughter was also sick. The cook there did not follow the cooking guidelines and undercooked something we ate. Sat in the drive thru line for 30 minutes. Not even being dramatic. Repeatedly told the girl through the speaker the order over and over. Got up to the window repeats a totally different order to me and tries to get an attitude.
