Contreras is my favorite and most authentic Mexican restaurant. It doesn't look like much. The building is very old. So if you need a fancy building you're in the wrong place. I've been going there 60 years back then it was a Hamburger hangout for teens. The only Mexican food I've found that measures up is the taco trucks. You want delicious, authentic, food this is the place for you. Btw, it is cash only. The food is really reasonably priced. read more

When we arrived the waitress greeted us and said we could sit anywhere, we chose the back area. All they had to drink at the time was water Pepsi and Dr Pepper. The inside smelled like old wood. We wanted to order guacamole and were told they didn't have any. We ordered the carne guisada plate, the food itself wasn't very good. We were told the tortillas were home made which we later noticed they were bought. We decided it was time to go and luckily I had some cash me (which I almost never do) because it was cash only! The waitress pointed out the very small chalk board sign to the right of the register. My family and i will not be returning. This is a popular lunch spot on the main drag in Labelle. The parking lot was almost full, primarily with pickups, but we were able to find a table inside. One waitress handled the entire place, but she did a great job. We had the Carne Guisada with rice & beans and the Combination Plate, consisting of a taco, cheese enchilada, tostada, rice & beans. Been going here for 20 years now. Food is great. Try the combination plate!! Salsa is great with an earthy flavor. Building is old and bathrooms are in the need of a remodel but then again I don't go here to use the bathroom. I stopped in here for lunch one day while working in the area. Thought it was a good bet because it was fairly busy. No. How awkward. Walk in. Stand there. Finally, after an awkwardly long pause, just go sit down in the back and hope someone comes and waits on me. Finally, someone does. She wasn't very friendly and seemed aggravated that I wanted her opinion on which was better - the tacos or enchiladas, but recommended I get the Combination Plate so I could try 3 things - a cheese enchilada, a taco and a tostada with rice and beans. It was just so-so, about like going to Taco Bell. The problem was, no bathroom and when I was wondering and wondering forever when the waitress was ever coming back with the ticket, she finally told me that my ticket was already at the register in the front. When I got up there to pay, was told cash only. Good thing I still had a few dollars left after paying all the tolls on the toll roads on the way to LaBelle. A few days later, a local told me to go try Amigos and Beer, another local Mexican restaurant just a few blocks down, and the waitresses are much friendlier and the food is much better and they have a bathroom and take credit cards. read more

Contreras has a wet burrito that is out of this world good. Also a good price. Go try a wet burrito, your taste buds will be happy, you will be full and your wallet won't be empty. You can order takeout, but you must bring your own bags to put the takeout containers in, that the meals are in. So bring a couple plastic grocery bags with you, when you go to pick up your order. read more

Lived most my life in Southern Calif so I know what good Mexican food is. Contreras was the worst Mexican meal I can ever remember having. Like a can of soup poured over dog food. Not even a real Mexican chile sauce. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day. But every time I drive by I am amazed there are cars in the parking lot, when there is a very good Mexican restaurant a couple blocks down the street. read more
