DETAILED REVIEW: Poor communication and customer service: My primary complaint is with the personalities at this company. The salesman and designer, Gary, is quite experienced and knowledgeable about his products. However, he put through the charge/deposit for the piece prior to my giving authorization and final approval which I repeatedly requested, and then yelled at me on the phone as if I was the one who make the mistake. He even threatened to refund the deposit (hence cancelling the order), which only escalated the problem and ill-feeling I had about doing business with them. But after so many hours of planning the two wardrobe pieces, and two trips to the New Jersey showroom, I had little appetite to start over with another company. I also had a fight with the owner, David, who didn't want to refund $60 for a belt rod I did not like or need (given the block of wood needed for installation). Can you imagine paying $3500 for furniture and having to argue twice over a $60 refund for an unused accessory?! Hence, these folk have no idea what the concept of customer service means, or how to basically treat and communicate with people! Poor attention to detail: My primary disappointment about the Bella wardrobe I received, is that I was expecting the side of the large wardrobe double hang to have the appearance of one piece of wood with a seam in the middle. This is what I saw at the showroom and makes sense. Instead, I got what appears to be two different pieces of wood randomly put together with no thought to match the pieces of wood to make them look as one. The appearance of one-piece with matching grain would of course make sense since this is one wardrobe/piece of furniture rather despite the internal two-piece construction. I distinctly recall Gary stating that the large wardrobe being built in two parts connected as one would be identical to a one-piece unit for additional cost (the only difference being the way they were attached - dowel in factory versus screw in home). I choose the two-piece option because it would be easier to deliver into our Manhattan apartment or move in the future. Had I known this is what I was going to get I would have gladly ordered the side of the piece in a vertical construction, as I did on the front of the smaller unit, which would have been vastly more attractive for $200. read more

Pros: + You can customize your item right down to the style of the handles - every last detail is selected by you. + They send you emails all throughout the process to confirm that what you selected is 100% what you want, to let you pick a day for it to be delivered, etc. + They'll assemble it for you upon delivery. + The end product is GORGEOUS. I'm in love with our mirrored armoire. So in love. Cons: - Your item will take at 2+ months to make. - Shipping and handling was somewhere between an extra 1-2k. I don't still have the payment confirmation to see the exact number, but I was shocked. So while it's nice that they'll assemble it for you, you're definitely paying for that. - The first time I tried to order online, it apparently didn't go through. I know how to use a website... I made it to the confirmation page for my purchase, yet I never got a confirmation email or a charge on my credit card. I eventually called and had to re-order it over the phone; the customer service during that was very nice, though. - You can pick the day for delivery, but you can only pick a four hour window on that day. Mine was between 7 and 11am. There's a big difference between 7 and 11am. They did arrive around 7:30, which on my day off, was terrible. I would recommend ordering from here if you can manage the prices plus shipping & handling and you don't mind waiting multiple months for it to be ready. I also purchased a triple dresser, in a two color finish and two additional multi use storage units that matches the dressers and it's gorgeous. Worst part, they have a no refund / no return policy, so unless you can magically tell what quality you are getting before you ever actually see it, you're stuck with it (you only have 24 hours after placing the order to cancel). Spoke to customer service, and they were as horrible as the product itself. They tried telling me these itty-bitty shims (in picture) they gave me would somehow make the piece of "furniture" sturdy. No problems, everything went smoothly. We actually started looking for a new wardrobe closet at Ikea, and thought we had found one. But when we went down to order it for delivery, we learned that one of the integral pieces was out of stock, and they had no way of knowing when it would be back. So we returned home and I started to look online, which is when I found Contempo Space. The showroom was about a 30 minute drive away, so I made an appointment for the following week and went straight there. I met Tomer in the showroom, located in a what looks like a large warehouse/showroom complex. There were many pieces of furniture on the floor and after consulting with Tomer (and my wife on the phone) on the exact configuration we wanted, I ordered two wardrobes in different configurations, plus we chose the color of the finish - light oak. Two of these would be slightly larger than the one piece I saw at Ikea, but actually the same width as our two old ones that needed to be replaced. The cost was more than at Ikea as we were now buying two units, but for me, it was worth it. Did you ever try to assemble Ikea furniture? The Contempo Space pieces are fully assembled at the factory, delivered and the two guys on the truck carried them up one flight of stairs to the bedroom floor. Not an easy job in my opinion, but they obviously knew what they were doing. After attaching the door handles and making sure the doors were level and even, we were done. We were in no specific hurry for these units, and they arrived in a few weeks. I was initially concerned about the arrival day because rain was in the forecast, but it had stopped by the time they arrived, and in any event, both pieces were wrapped in plastic wrapping which was removed after set up. All in all, a good experience. In short, if you don't mind paying a little more than what you can find at Ikea, you'll get a better quality piece, custom designed, delivered and set up within around a month's time, give or take a week. The piece looked great and the price was well within my budget. CS delivered it quickly, and the guys who brought it were very polite and professional. The wardrobe turned out to be even bigger and sturdier than I had anticipated, and I could fit a lot into it. The master bedroom in my new home has a 90" inset wall next to the closet. The layout of the room makes it obvious that whatever piece(s) of furniture I bought would have to fit in that 90" space. I searched the world, far and wide, for an 80-ish inch dresser. Lo and behold, 99.99999% percent of dressers are only 60" long. This meant that in order to efficiently use my 90" space I would have to get a dresser (around 60") plus a tall chest of drawers (around 30"). It was very difficult to find two pieces that would fit in that space, and would fit there in an AESTHETICALLY PLEASING manner. I'm very OCD and have a thing about symmetry, so I really didn't want to have two pieces of furniture that were different heights against one wall. Once I started to search for wardrobes and closet units (instead of a dresser) I stumbled upon the Aventa TV Chest with Drawers. I fell in love with this piece right away - it is sooo pretty, and at 76" long, it'd fit very nicely in the space I have. I was a little hesitant about spending $1400 for this piece (including delivery and setup fees), but it really fits perfectly in the space and the quality isn't terrible; it's probably a step-up from Ikea. My only complaints come down to the turnaround time for this item and the older delivery man's attitude... I ordered this item online on November 10th and was sent an email confirmation right away. On November 30th I received another email asking me to confirm my order and release it for delivery. I didn't hear until December 7th when the next available delivery date was, and it turns out that the soonest date they could bring it to me was December 21st! If I couldn't have someone there to receive the item on the 21st then I would have had to wait until after the new year. On top of that, the delivery window I was provided on December 17th was between 7am and 11am. Who delivers items starting at SEVEN AM? So, on the morning of December 21st I was sure to keep my phone noise turned up so I could get their warning phone call. At 7 am exactly I received a call from someone saying the drivers have been trying to contact me all morning - but I had no missed calls. So I say, do you have an idea on how long it'll be until they get here? And at that very moment I heard the reverse sounds of a very large moving truck. So I threw on my bathrobe, fresh from my slumber, and the first thing this dude says to me when I open the door is, "YOU DON'T BELIEVE IN ANSWERING YOUR PHONE?" And I'm like...whoa, buddy, it didn't ring. And then he says to me, "you don't believe MY phone?" And I'm like, actually, let me see it. Lo and behold this attitude-saturated man had been dialing 9238 instead of 6238. I also expected the assembly process to be shorter than it was, because all the reviews rave about how fast everything came together. It took them almost an hour and a half to bring my piece inside and assemble it. There were several breaks for "storytelling" from the older guy. He was extremely chatty for greeting me like an asshole and for it being 7 in the morning. From start to finish it took 41 days for this item to arrive at my house. I'm very glad the process is finally over. Beware before you order - you're going to be waiting an eternity for your furniture. read more

I love the bad reviews "the worst ever" This reminds me of the people that go to the most expensive steak house, and say "this is the worst steak I ever had - I could cook a better steak at home" - or "I could go to Outback and get a better steak". I was uncomfortable paying the amount of money that I paid (and I live in Florida, so there was a big delivery fee" - but the quality of the furniture (a Pier Wall Bedroom set) is INCREDIBLE, and the 2 hard working guys they sent down to install it were incredible. The drawers have big fronts, pretty on the outside, but almost no drawer space inside; 8 inch drawer fronts turn into 3 inch drawer depth inside. If you're looking for storage space, you WILL be let down. As for the hardware for the drawers, the absolute cheapest rails in the market. Also, drawers are completely wobbly because of it. Furniture pieces are pretty on the outside, but complete crap on the inside. Save yourself a fortune and go to ikea. read more

I had an excellent experience with Contempo Space from the customer service to the final product. I bought the three-door, full length glass mirror Alta Armoire and it is absolutely stunning! PRODUCT: Since the entire armoire is mirror, it completely opens up my room and makes my small bedroom in my tiny New York apartment feel infinitely bigger. The armoire is a great use of space in that it holds a lot of clothes, purses, knickknacks or whatever you need to store. And it is really sturdy and well made, better quality than anything you can get from Ikea. My Alta Armoire from Contempo Space is a solid piece of furniture for sure. SHIPPING: I was able to get my armoire custom made and shipped to me in two-three weeks time, which was awesome because it usually takes months to make and ship a piece of furniture this substantial. ONLY DRAW BACK: It's kind of inconvenient that they don't deliver on weekends. So I struggled to find someone to retrieve my delivery while I was at work. And their delivery window is much too wide. It was a four hour window, while most other places I ordered furniture from at least narrowed it down to a two hour window the day before. Good thing is Contempo Space did come at the very beginning of the two hour delivery window, which was excellent.
