Welcome to the land of misfit furniture. Up until this last week, the last time I was in any kind of furniture store was when I was a kid, but trying to save a buck now that the money is mine, I was drawn into Consignment Classics upon driving by from MCRD. I have mixed feelings about consignments. I know you can find awesome stuff with even better deals but there is something about having something brand new that is a good piece of mind for me. I guess its all in preference. Perhaps I don't favor consignments only because I don't have the patience to scour every inch of every store for months at a time before finding the right piece but would rather walk in to a new place and point at what I like. To each their own. With that aside... Walking into the humongous warehouse it is obvious these people have a ton of furniture of all kinds! They are definitely not the type of consignment that leaves you feeling gross and filthy but are well cared for pieces of home furnishings. Mirrors, rugs, couches, chairs, dining room tables, barstools, buffet tables, tv stands, coffee tables, bed frames, dressers, etc. etc. etc. To be honest, it was a bit intimidating as to where to start and map out an attack plan to see all of the furniture that they had both upstairs and downstairs. One thing I have to say is they are really good about having full sets of matching tables or living room furniture and then, there is the oddballs.... Oddly colored/upholstered/textured seems to fit in just fine. Some pieces are strange and have a glimmer of potential but would turn out to be an eyesore in an attempt to blend into an already furnished living space. If you're the type of person who loves to buy odd pieces that no one has (or should have previously ever owned) this is the place for you. However, I will definitely return to this place when a dining room set is in order as our next furniture purchase. read more

I'm surprised that we haven't reviewed this place yet! My boyfriend and I have been to Consignment Classics almost every weekend for the past month. It's true, this place is a hit or miss, and it's definitely not a place for people that don't like to thrift. But we've found some excellent finds at this place! Our favorite find to date is this great European vintage stereo console... it's so cool! Everybody who works here is really friendly and it's always fun to see what kind wacky of stuff they have in stock. The things that they have range from brand new to gently used to please help. There's something for everybody here, no matter what taste in decor you have. Half of our house so far is furnished with the items we've found at Consignment Classics. We love it here. read more

I recently decided to help my friend find some tea cups for a bridal shower and was lucky to stumble to this great spot. It was hard to just stay focus on just tea party items because there was so much stuff to look at. I found several items that I would have loved to purchase but I couldn't fit everything in my car. Oh I do love Consignment Classics. Not entirely because of what they have in the store but because of the hunt. I try to hit this place at least once a week. Yep, once a week. You can find some great buys and then you will find things that you just shake you head and wonder what they were thinking. They know it as well. Those items stay in the store week after week and never go home. The good stuff is gone before you know it. If you are really looking for a good buy you have to keep in mind that everything here is on consignment. I have never paid the price on the tag. It is all about wheeling and dealing or taking a chance to see if your item will get marked down in a month. This place has a huge turn-over of furniture, here one day and gone the next but it is really like a treasure chest of items. I love going here to see what I can find. The service is great. The employees are as nice as can be and very helpful. You have got to go. read more

San Diego doesn't have many consignment furniture places so I was really disappointed when I found this place had gone downhill from a few years ago. Previously, I found some really great pieces here but now, a lot of the furniture is just a tiny step up from what you'd find in a Goodwill. Don't get me wrong, I love Goodwill but I wouldn't shop there for furniture. Also, they have a section of brick-a-brack now and it's just pathetic. Not one item interested me and that says a lot! I'm guessing the person that's in charge of accepting new items has a really hard time saying no. It's such a shame. read more

It always seems like they are selling old dead people's stuff. My friend said the smell bothered him the moment he entered the store. I personally didnt smell anything, but he said it wouldnt leave hiim after we left. But anyway, I digress. I felt for the prices they charged we could find something better new. A lot of low quality or just ugly pieces. It seems they are trying to go for an antique vibe. I remember a few years ago being able to see very high end pieces, and while they still have some nice pieces, there is a lot of junk or very outdated pieces mixed in. Just okay for me. I did not find anything I wanted, mainly due to the high prices for obviously used furniture. I felt the line between consignment and used was a little blurry in this case. I love this store! I'm not fond of shopping (quite the opposite), but this store is easy to maneuver in, the displays are well done. I am always amazed at the new inventory when I return. I don't know how they do it. These people are polite and helpful. If you're decorating a new home, I'd highly recommend visiting Consignment Classics. It's genuinely a fun place to shop. read more

I called this place to simply ask if they buy furniture and the man who answered the phone was incredibly rude to me, answered very abruptly and laughed at me. He could've nicely told me they don't buy furniture and it wouldn't have been a big deal. But he seemed to think it was funny to be mean. Would not recommend. read more

I really love this place! Pretty much every time I've been in there I've walked away with something. Their Asian furniture is really amazing and the prices are incredible. They have a wide variety of styles and periods of furniture. My husband (then boyfriend) found a great cognac-colored leather sofa and chair for a steal. They were practically brand new. I found an amazing bookcase that looks like it came from Pottery Barn for $250!! I negotiated it down. It was HUGE (glass doors and all) and they were great about bringing it out and loading it into my truck. I have found some great art also. I have reframed a few pieces, but most have been okay the way they were. I actually found some really cool Thai rubbings that match my decor. If I've found a piece of furniture they have always held it long enough for me to go home and get my truck so I can haul my goodies home (but I've learned to just drive my truck there because ya never know what you can't live without!). I think they do deliver, but I'm not sure. I've had no problem negotiating prices and the people who work there are always helpful and friendly. I think this is truly a hidden gem in San Diego for great priced, unique furniture. Their mirrors and rugs are also pretty fabulous. I highly recommend browsing this place if you are in the market for some new furniture (or even if you're not!). But inventory turns over pretty quickly, so even if you don't see anything you like on one visit, try again. And if you see something you like, BUY IT. I regret waiting on a few pieces that were gone when I went back. read more

Consignment Classics - 39.00 canvas art - Furniture Stores Near Me - San Diego, California

Used to be my absolutely favorite place to wander around and find treasures. They started getting in a bunch of brand new stuff a few years ago and now that's almost ALL they have. Consignment for another store now, not bargain finds at garage sale or Craigslist prices. I'll be shopping elsewhere from now on...this isn't worth the drive or the hassle. What a shame. read more

Furnished most of my apartment from this store. I bought a couch, coffee table, TV stand, and dining table + 4 chairs for a total of about $800 by my best guess. Including delivery fees, that would be about $950. Not bad considering all my pieces are in good condition and are pretty high quality. Yes, one of the drawers on the TV stand doesn't slide very well because a component is missing, but I'm low maintenance so I don't mind, especially for that price. The store itself is great. Lots of cool stuff - in fact, so much that you can get a little overwhelmed! I know when I first walked in I did a bit of a double take because I wasn't expecting such a big showroom stuffed to the gills with stuff. Not to mention their second floor downstairs, which from what I can glean is mostly older stuff + outdoor patio type furniture. Have a good idea of what you want to buy and take measurements before you go, otherwise you'll lose yourself very quickly. Staff are helpful and nice. Just fyi regarding delivery - they don't have their own delivery service, so you'll need to use contractors. CC has a list of third party delivery people they recommend, and I hired Roberto Preciado both times. Nice guy and delivered everything in good condition with reasonable prices. However, just note that the delivery time he'll give you is...a guess at best. Both times, he showed up 1.5-2 hours after the time he told me he would be there. I'm not picky about this sort of thing and I'd cleared my schedule anyway so I didn't mind, but I thought it would be important info for people to know. read more

We walked into the store and no one bothered to greet us. We looked around and no staff members welcomed us, offered to help or even acknowledged our existence. We asked about buying the succulents in bulk and asked if they offered a discount. The individual running the cash register blankly looked up, said no discounts and kept doing what he was doing. No eye contact. No personal interaction. This is definitely an establishment where they don't care about the customer. Thanks, but no thanks...I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

if this were 4 months ago or prior (going back at least 6 years) I would have given it 5 stars. i have found wonderful one offs, reasonably priced and accessible for those us us not into cookie cutter decorations and furniture. well, things have changed and to such a degree that I felt compelled to get on here and share my thoughts to save others the bad experience. I don't know what, but something happened, recently. It seems like an entirely different place and the business model is not one that is sustainable here in San Diego. There is so much junk stuffed in there now (looks like they bought an entire truckload of boxed up ready to assemble garbage -think IKEA, living spaces coffee tables and the like) and the artful stuff is few and far between. the space is beginning to look like it wants to mimic the overwhelming chaos found in the Kurtz st location. actually, that place has more "logic" and layout than this place, now. and yes, the prices have gone up. Sure, everything has, yes? except there is no justification in this case. the prices are more fitting for a place like New York. It was good while it lasted, though. I am fortunate that I filled my entire home with treasures found on repeated weekend visits. read more

Some odd reviews here, for sure, lol. One griped about "old dead people's stuff." I guess he's too dumb to know that's part of what sells at consignment stores- estate furniture or "dead people's" stuff. I guess he plans on never ageing or dying, remaining a snarky clueless millennial forever. That said, he looks fat in his picture and will probably not make it to 40. CC has a nice mix of "gently used " older furniture and newer furniture, the more modern stuff being the bulk of their inventory. Literally new stuff everyday. My favorite is the patio furniture outdoors and the knick knack racks full of haunted stuff from the estates of "dead people." Most of the staff is very helpful. One of the owners, Marty, sadly passed away recently causing some upheaval in the place. That seems to have settled down now and the store is back to its former coolness, packed full of "dead people" swag. The basement is mostly big furniture and bedroom sets and is, according to several employees, haunted (no joke). After 30 days items are discounted 20%, 50% after 60 days and up to 80% after 90 days. You can get great deals if you arrive at the right time. You can save thousands here in furnishing your home over buying new stuff at full retail. read more

they basically confiscated my goods - read the fine print of their contract - if your goods are not sold within the 90 day period and you fail top pick them up PRIOR to the expiration, they keep your goods! Seemed unethical to me, they don't make that very clear in advance. read more

Recently picked up a framed mirror that I had placed on consignment there. Not only was it dirty and damaged (it was in new condition when I dropped it off) I just discovered that the hardware and wire to hang it with had been removed. That's theft as far as I am concerned. The store policy of keeping consignment articles with no compensation to the owner when the article is not picked up by the deadline day seems a bit draconian. I won't be back. read more

Mother of god- how incorrect I was to judge this place. We bought a brand new amazing entry way table that is beautiful and only $189- similar ones were at least $450 and not as high of quality. Go here with time and enjoy the scenery, it's amazing. read more

I've been in this place dozens of times and have bought several things from home decor to large furniture. They have a huge selection and you may want to pop on in there when shopping for your home decor/furniture needs. They do have constantly changing inventory, so I try to visit at least once month. As far as purchasing things, yes - you'll want to pick it up either at the time of purchase or very soon afterwards. If you do not own a vehicle that can transport your item, they can suggest several delivery people who can do it for a reasonable fee. Also, if you are certain you will purchase something, do it right then and there. Or if needed, put in a deposit and come back in a day or two to complete the sale. Recently, a very good friend of mine wanted a couch and even offered to pay a deposit since she couldn't complete the transaction for a couple of days. Since the couch had been there for a few months, the sales person said that there was no need to do so , that it would be there. My friend went to pick up the couch a couple of days later and they had sold it to someone else. Never calling to tell her that someone else was interested as they promised. Prices are fair most of the time and you should always ask if the price is at its lowest as there is a markdown on items the longer it is on the floor. Although I've had mostly positive experiences with buying from CC, I did have one incident that was extremely frustrating which is the main reason why I gave such a low rating. As a designer, I am sometimes asked to scout for particular antiques or home decor. I had bought an item here at a very discounted price to re-sell (for profit of course) to a client. I called and asked CC 3 times (and even on the morning of pick-up) to make sure that a copy of the receipt or anything remotely similar to a price tag was not on taped to the furniture when the delivery people came to pick up. Because I was bedridden from a knee injury, I couldn't make it there myself to supervise as I usually do. I should of just hobbled off there anyway because guess who saw a copy of the receipt with all the financial particulars? You guess it - the client. What a horrific mess that was. CC was apologetic and assured me that this is not common practice. Since then I've been in there and seen the same on other items marked "sold" - who bought it and when and for how much. After the above incident I did not step foot in the place for almost a year. But because the place is close to where I live and they do offer the best selection of pre-owned furniture in San Diego, I've relented and have since gone back. The best advice I can give when purchasing from here is just to get in the mindset to approach your transactions here as you would from a garage sale. Haggle, buy it and leave with it. Don't expect your typical retail customer service and you'll be happy with your purchases. read more

Now called consignment classics... still staffed with unusually ignorant help." This store has a large inventory of "liquidation" furniture (cheesy model home type stuff), plus a smaller selection of sometimes interesting consignment pieces - both modern and antique. Some nice pieces can be found at reasonable prices. However, be advised that if you PAY for a piece and do not immediately take it with you, that these nincompoops immediately place your piece OUTSIDE directly on the concrete under a flimsy temporary picnic type sun relief thing, exposing it to the elements. There are 2 of the sun covers with a gap about 5 inches between them - nothing to stop the rain from running down and across the legs or base of the piece, and nothing to stop the wind from blowing the rain onto the piece. When questioned about this set-up, the employee responded, "well that's our policy, we don't have room for the pieces once you pay for them". Well what about the spot that it was sitting in at time of purchase? Delivery or pickup must be made within 5 days so it's not like purchases sit there forever. The spot where our pieces were sitting at time of purchase was sitting empty, while our pieces were sitting outside only partially protected from the rain. This may be a great place to shop and find deals, but please be VERY careful if you want to put items on consignment!! I feel like we really got ripped off. I will completely admit that my husband and I didn't know what we were doing. We were in over our heads!! But I feel like Consignment Classics took advantage of our situation. Here is our situation. We ended up having to take care of an elderly aunt who had no children of her own. We had to put her in a care facility and put her condo on the market. Thankfully her condo sold very quickly, but that left us rushed to clear out her things. (We both work full time and had to do it in one weekend!) We brought a small uhaul of her most beautiful things to Consignment Classics on Hancock because we assumed they would put fair prices on her treasures. By the time we got there, late afternoon, we were both exhausted. It was a very stressful experience and looking back, I'm just sick that I left some of her things at this store. As a matter of fact, I'm going to go back and see if I can pull some of her things back, although, I wouldn't be surprised if not much is left. 1. Customers are allowed in the unloading area. They start going through your things before you have finished your "deal" with Consignment Classics. We had people grabbing stuff and carrying it away. I couldn't believe it! It was very stressful because we were trying to deal with the CC employee, getting prices for our items and at the same time, customers were literally in our faces. 2. Some of the prices they put on things were SO low. We had a dining set by a famous designer that they were only going to give us $500 for. We loaded it back up and took it down the street and sold it for $1,800 that very night. If we would have left it there, my aunt would have gotten $250. In hind site, I should have pulled so much more and put it back in the uhaul, but the whole experience left me in a daze. I honestly wasn't thinking straight! I might shop here, but I will never, ever, put anything on consignment here. I think I would feel better donating to Goodwill or Salvation Army. read more

I found this store to be more over priced than most of its competitors in the area. The store is massive and contains a large selection of furniture, antiques, decorations, frames and outdoor patio furniture, but some of the prices were close to what one would pay for similar pieces new. Of course, like any consignment shop, it really depends on what's available that day and your personal taste. If you're looking for a unique, funky piece for your home (like a green couch, some lawn gnomes or a silver tea pot) this is a great place to come! read more

This colossal warehouse is heaven-sent. If you want to decorate your territory with beautiful, stylistic period pieces at a discount, rush there. There is a hodgepodge of artifacts and furniture, and the one element that struck me was the overall quality of the antiques on display, as you meander through this gigantic locale. From rustic Americana to Louis and Victorian furniture, you will find one or ten pearls for your oyster. They have a lot of different things and you will always find things to buy at all of their locations. The prices are reasonable and affordable. The customer service from some of the staff is rude and almost them acting like they don't want to be there but they also have some really helpful and kind staff members! I haven't brought anything to sell but if I do I will review on that experience. read more

I've been in Consignment Classics prolly 'bout a hundred times in the past few years. They have so much new and used furniture it makes my head spin and I can't make a decision so I run out screaming and pulling my hair out like a mad woman. I do - really. The only time I can go in with a clear head and come out having made a good decision is when I take my best friend with me, she is an interior designer. Recently she spotted a set of new sofas that I thought looked 'hideous' and I told her so. Two days later I was in there purchasing them. The sofas now sit in my house and I love them. they fit perfectly and were super cheap, not cheap in quality - just in price. The guys that work there have always been really nice and tell me if I see something I like to take the ticket to the front and ask if it is the lowest possible price, cause chances are they will do better to move the furniture out. Sometimes they will pay the sales tax if you ask nicely. I've told lots and lots of people about CC's and one friend going through a divorce basically furnished his whole house from there. A little over 3 months ago, we dropped of for them to sell, a pair of very nice, high quality, exterior wall lights that were purchased out of an Old Spaghetti Factory that closed down years ago. Also, a very nice leather bar stool. When we dropped them off they said they would display them properly to sell. They also said after a couple weeks, the price would drop and after a couple weeks later, it would drop again if not selling. So over 3 months go by and we hadn't heard anything from them, so we stopped by. We found the lights, sitting o separate shelves, in pieces, also scattered on different shelves. Pieces that would of, if lost, made the lights worthless. And, they were still priced at the original price. The shelves were full of miscellaneous junk like games, small kitchen appliances and other stuff you would find left over from an estate or yard sale. We immediately gathered the items and, after searching the area, all the separated pieces and complained to the guy at the counter. Very little eye contact, no apology at all, he just said "well, we can't control what customers do." We told him we were taking the items and he didn't even respond. He couldn't of cared less. The place has become like any other junky thrift store. They don't care about your items, they don't even keep track of them to do mark downs or to make sure they are displayed properly. As we were leaving, two elderly women asked the same clerk where their artwork was that they dropped of to sell. They said they looked through everything. The clerk simply said, "we're not responsible for finding your stuff. It's on the contract you signed when you dropped your stuff of." Coincidence that that happened the same time we had a similar type issue on how they display items and keep track of them? I don't think so! I think it happens all the time and that this place has so much stuff, they couldn't care less about your items. They just stick it out there, forget about it and hope it sells eventually so they can get their inflated cut. Horrible place to do business! Don't give them your business as there's other, much more professionally ran consignment stores in the area. read more

Very nice consignment shop. My wife purchased two Pottery Barn leather chairs for $300 retail price $3000. Of course they had a few nicks and scratches but we saved 90%. This place is definitely worth checking out for the few gems that are there. read more

3.5 overall the selection varies, of course, and sometimes it's great, but others it's all crap. best for large mirrors (our only successful recent purchase), dining room sets, and living area odds and ends. i think most pieces are over-priced, but again, that's not entirely the fault of the store, assuming that the consignment "owners" partake in setting prices. i like to come in and browse, and there are usually some good buys. what's up with the $200 wooden benches, though? sheesh--go to Pat's for similar benches for $25. read more
