Ok so there are two sides to every story. For years I have shopped here meaning I have been on the demand side of the story. Walk in and it's a fun store you can get lost in but for the first time I have been on the supply side. I brought two brand new items- a wine cooler refrigerator and a brand new carpet. The appraiser put a price tag of $800 on the carpet and $500 on the wine fridge. I had also two old items- a desk and a chair. The old items sold in weeks. For the last 3 months I have been calling about the new items and all I get is they haven't sold. I asked if they are showcased. They say yup so yesterday I went to look for them. Guess what? Nowhere to be found. They couldn't even find my carpet because it was rolled up somewhere and they couldn't find it. Plus they want me to go uncover and open filthy rugs to find mine. So I asked how do you want to sell them if nobody can see them? Aha!!! There is a guy who owns or rents the rug area and only his rugs are displayed. In the meantime the price of my rolled up carpet keeps going down until after 90 days they "donate" my carpet probably to the guy who displays and sells it !!! So it's a racket and when I said I want my items back they say it's not our duty to find them or del we them to you. My next stop is the police or the BBB. read more

I love this place! I've been shopping there for about 12 years. The selection is great, from furniture to dishes. I have bought several pieces the last couple of months. I found a nice, new sofa, from a high end furniture company, for a fabulous price. I used a dab of upholstery cleaner in the arm, and it's perfect. I've also sold items for a great price as well. ZERO stars. I've been shopping at all of the consignment classics for decades, as well as my entire family, and I am shocked at the awful business practices that transpired at the Hancock location. My mother was selling a couch which they priced at $10,000 and the 90 days expired, which clearly states in the contract that it needs to be moved. They sold the couch, never gave her a courtesy call, maybe 7 days before expiration? Maybe a simple call letting her know that they were reducing the price by a few thousand dollars??? She wasn't selling a simple $5 ceramic pot or a simple $25 chair or $2 dish, this was a substantial, beautiful leather couch with a marble base from LA. I would think that an item priced at this much, they would have shown her just a little attention and respect, and as a courtesy, given her just a simple two minute call for her to pick it up. Use to shop here frequently for years, also introduced and recommended the store to others, BUT NOT ANYMORE. Prices have become outrageously expensive, no longer a good value, don't waste your time. Don't know what has happened in the last 6 months but something has changed. Also many items are being classified as a " liquidation" so there is no markdown. Who ever is running the show does not know what they are doing, way over priced and many, many, items not worth what they are asking. read more

I spent 2 hours here. Will be back. It was endlessly interesting to see how each booth is set up differently. I noticed items there for sale which were in pictures from years ago. Most booths have their prices too high. The ones which are fairly priced also had some of the nicest items though. Their outdoor furniture & plants were way more expensive than new retail. The majority of people that write something like this are angry they feel they been missed treated somehow usually is that they didn't get the attention that they wanted but I can say that this is a good store. It's been around since 1997 I believe or 1991. Either way it's tough in San Diego and they have risen through all of the complications of Covid and everything that came before and after so I'm gonna go to the store the stars that he deserves and I wish I could give them more. read more

I was initially very pleased with this place, the inventory, and selection. I bought a sectional couch from here and found out days later that there was a significant crack in the front frame of the largest piece. Having done as much an inspection as I could before purchasing, the crack was some thing that would have required ripping open the bottom. As a furniture reseller with in house carpenters and people knowledgeable on furniture I can only discern that selling a piece like this was intentional. I'm now only forced to get the piece fixed and sit tight on my initial investment. Avoid this place like the plague and if you don't be very strict on your inspections. read more

Bought several pieces of furniture; headboard and dresser. They both were in nearly perfect condition, and high quality. The $ tagged on both pieces was fair, then I got upstairs to pay for them and they were discounted additional fee for having been on floor a certain amount of time. What did deal! When I left I realized I have a furniture set that I would like to get rid of so I went home and cleaned it up have my husband bring it back there it's sold within one week and It sold for $200 They give the seller 50% back so I received $100 for some furniture that was handed down to me. Avoid this place if you're considering placing an item on consignment with this business. I'd been successful with consignments at their old Encinitas location a decade ago. However, I'd been forewarned about the Hancock Street location and that some of the staff of this place were crooked thieves, but chose to leave a large folding room divider with this place to sell for me. Two weeks after dropping off the unit, I returned to see where it had been placed, but after scouring the entire store I found no trace of the divider. When questioning an employee of the business at the front desk as to why I could not locate my consignment, I was told that I hadn't searched enough, and the onus was on me to find it. Assuming the consignment had already been sold and I was being scammed, I waited until the last day of the 90 day consignment agreement to visit the store and request to pick up the piece since I'd hadn't been notified of a sale. Was given the same flim-flam that the piece had not been sold and was somewhere on the floor but it was my job to find it and trudge it to my vehicle on my own. The piece was nowhere to be found, of course. Uncertain as to their selection process of choosing whom to scam, but apparently I fit within the parameters of their victim selection process. read more

Oh. My. GOSH. You guys! This place is really fun even just to look around so if you're not looking for something specific, it's still worth checking out! They had some of the most unique furniture I have ever seen. Like stuff you would see on that show Empire (see photos). It's a yuuuuuge warehouse - inside there's the main floor and the downstairs, and then also outdoor stuff outside. I thought the prices were a bit steep - but I think if you are looking for that something special, you'll find it here and the price won't matter as much. I saw a ton of furniture, paintings/wall hangings, lighting/lamps, knick knacks... There wasn't any clothing or music or things like that - mostly household stuff. I didn't buy anything on this trip, but now that I know what type of stuff they have, I'll definitely be back when I'm in need of something truly unique. read more

:-) 1895 Hancock Street was always an interesting building to me.... I see some cool things outside the back patio, but just assumed it was like a Goodwill store inside... Boy, was I fooled. I needed to get glass cut and the edges smoothed to protect an antique buffet table top I inherited from my mother. I was told to go to 1895 Hancock Street. Upon entering I wasn't sure I was in the right place, what with all the funky furniture from all over the world.... I asked, and the front desk guy sent me to the back of the warehouse... OMG.. this is HUGE (I vaguely remember saying this alot.. hmm?) HUGE is right... The warehouse went further back and then some. What was in the back you ask? Not only a place to get custom cut glass, but a place to get custom framing for paintings, pictures and mirrors... Let me tell you about the deal I got on my custom cut glass: I had a previous business quote me at $80 - $90.... I kid you not.. I opted to go to someplace closer to where I live (cut to) ...1895 Hancock Street. I had my glass cut while I browsed and paid only $18.95. YES. $18.95!!!!!! WTF? I'll bet in comparison, custom framing is much more competitive in price here also. They've got tons of frames to choose... from Italian hand made wood up to $1000 in price to somewhat more commercially mass produced frames.... You'll find GEMS in here.. GEMS I say... amongst some ODDS and ends.. It's a creative designers treasure chest. THIS is the place I'd shop for UNIQUE, CONTEMPORARY, AND NOT SO CONTEMPORARY finds... Don't get me wrong it's not all cheap, and its not poorly made furniture either.. You'll definitely not find anything in here you'll like, if your the IKEA shopper. :-( 4 woofs! You'd have better luck on letgo or craigslist. Selling "gently used" (aka very dirty and worn) furniture for upwards of $500 on average. I would understand if they were actually vintage or designer, but most of the furniture is normal stuff you could find at garage sales for $40, or $80 brand new at Ikea. If you're drowning in money and need a unique piece, you might be ok. But if you're a regular person looking for a furniture THRIFT place, this isn't it. :/ read more

Had my first visit today after remembering my old neighbor who told me how fantastic this place was. Come to find out, for a consignment items (if a thing has gone out of a brand new condition out to someone's possession, how it looks is only a fraction of factor to consider whether or not the price is fair!) the prices are might as well be brand new item because the average of a piece of furniture is $XXX.XX(as in hundreds!)! You can actually find a spanking NEW from Homegoods or Living Space. So I was very confused. Also noticed some tags show the "decent" consignment price (ie: old, NOT vintage, end table) that had a scratch written on $39, but typed up price next to it said $139. Wait, what happened here???? I looked around most furniture anywhere from glam-ish to old farm house. Just about ALL items are priced highly (You wouldn't probably pay that much even if they are new considering the style) or supposed some folks like the fact it's second hand and feels it's antique-ish just because it's used, old and pricey? I would give them a zero (0) but you must give them at least a one (0). Avoid using "Consignment Classic Home Furnishings" at all costs! They are located at 1895 Hancock St., San Diego, CA 92110. They are horrible and irresponsible. I took into them two Persian (Iranian) rugs that I purchased in Bahrain when I was mobilized to Iraq for the Navy in 2004. I now have 3 dogs so I cannot display the rugs in any room of my house because if the dogs pee on the rugs it will ruin them. I left Consignment Classic Home Furnishings the original certificates of origin showing that the rugs were genuine Iranian Persian rugs, the size, design and number of knots, from Peacock Carpet Centre in Manama, Bahrain. Consignment Classic Home Furnishings lost the certificates! Totally unacceptable and unprofessional. They did not step up and make things right. Now, I have no proof of where I purchased these rugs from and that means I will probably take a huge loss selling them. The only reason that I'm selling them is because I now have 3 dogs. Consignment Classic Home Furnishings had listed them at $2497 each. An honorable, reputable company would buy both rugs from me at the price they listed them for, $2497 each. But they aren't responsible, honorable or legitimate. They are irresponsible, unprofessional, dishonorable and they have a "couldn't care less" attitude about their customers. If you fancy yourself a decorator and love to find a great deal, you may have just found your favorite new place. This is not designer furniture, or ultra high end stuff but if you are eclectic and love one of a kind pieces you just may find what you are looking for. This is a consignment store so everyday is a different inventory list. You can not be sure what you will or won't find. What is sure though, the prices won't be beat. There is a combination of brand new items and slightly used items. So some items can be ordered in other fabrics and colors. The store is really large, so make sure you go downstairs too. In the back on your way to the outside area you will find a framing store, a glass shop and other helpful people who can help you design the PERFECT accent for your home. I have pieces from this store that really stand out in our home and our guests always comment on. In the last few months they have added a section of knick knacks up front, don't let this in any way dissuade you from entering. Times are tough, they have to make money too, just walk past this and take your time. Oh and the most important fact, they are dog friendly!!! I mean really friendly! Even our 200lb one is welcomed here with smiles and big hugs. read more

I used to be a regular customer of both Classic Consignments in San Diego. (not the one in Encinitas). I bought a cloth couch that was marked down to 99 dollars (can you believe) and a great framed mirror that really added to my wall display. So, naturally when I moved to another location, I looked there first as far as consignment stores. Disappointed and a little heartsick was I. So much of the furniture was brand new and not on consignment at all. It may be fun to look around and see what they have available but outside a few pieces, most furniture is new and about the same prices as the box stores. Perhaps on future visits they'll go back to carrying quality furntiure that is a slightly worn but really well priced. read more

Just got profiled for stealing here. I've been coming here for years and I never once had been asked for my bag to be held at the front. Today, I was approached about 30 minutes into shopping and was asked that my bag be held at the front. I complied, and gave the woman my bag. However, after continuing to shop, I began to notice many people carrying bags, my size, if not larger. I approached 3 women with bags and alerted them that they may have to take them to the front to which they were surprised to here as well. I became pretty annoyed annoyed the more people I saw with bags and when I checked out up front I noticed no other bags alongside mine! Not fun being profiled and definitely not a good look for the company!! Really sucks because I used to love coming here and walking around used to to be a relaxing experience.. not anymore. read more

Thrilled to find a St John suit in my size for an incredible price. While standing in line on Black Friday, an associate offered to put my suit aside while I continued shopping. When it came time to checkout , 30 minutes later, and I requested my items they were holding , the suit had mysteriously disappeared. I asked for the associate that had taken the item from me and was informed that she was on break. I waited while staff texted her and she denied knowing what happened to the suit. They made a show of looking for the order, but it was obviously not still in the checkout area. My soul is crushed, both by the blatant abuse of my trust as well as the loss of a suit that was a perfect compliment to my fashion style. I will not be back. read more

I love, love, love this place!! Their prices are fair and they discount items after they've been there a few weeks, so you can really get some great bargains. Every time you go there's always new item there is a constant stream of shoppers and sellers so there's always a great variety of things to choose from whether it's smalls like little knick-knacks for your house dishes, statuettes, pictures, figurines even things for the yard or large items such as bookcases desks furniture of all sorts side tables, China cabinets, trunks, anything and everything you could possibly imagine or want. I love the hunt in the find. Also the staff is very courteous and helpful. Also they accept cash or credit cards what which makes it great. I really want to like Consignment Classics, its a huge store with a variety of indoor/outdoor furniture and household items. However, as this is a consignment and not vintage store A LOT of the items are from the 80s/90s and so don't seem thrifted chic quite yet but just tacky. I also tend to think they are higher priced than any other used furniture store in San Diego. However, I do try to go about once every month or two just to look and so far have made two great purchases, an antique (yes, actually antique!) distressed yellow dresser and a trundle bed for my kids (which was newer). They do not deliver under any circumstance so factor in paying for delivery into your cost. The delivery men they recommend are terrible, unreliable people. It's been a year since I was at this store. It's gone downhill. They have upped the amount of poorly done in house attempts at "shabby shic." These horrors can be found against the far south wall, where it reeks of spray paint and varnish. The basement is still a disaster area of beat up bed frames and cockroaches. I found one piece of quality oak furniture, but the price was so ridiculous it made me wonder what type of imbeciles keep them in business. read more

LOVE this place! Every time I go there, they have new furniture. It is a TREASURE TROVE of style and quirkiness! :) I seem to have developed a little addiction problem now since I actually stop by there about once a week or more even though I live about a 30 min drive away. Seems much of their furniture is from Stagers of model homes -- interesting furniture & accessories, great colors, lines, flows -- nothing just ordinary run of the mill! Luis is a wonderful help on the floor & gives me inside information about what is coming in when! Directs me to what just got discounted or what is ABOUT to get marked down. I SCORED on a couple of amazing chairs for my living room -- heavy dark wood with huge blood-red pillows.... each for $99! (just marked down) -- And I found a Miro painting hidden back behind all these other cheapy posters! MAJOR score ((huge Miro fan - and I know the difference between the good prints & the bad)) I can't say enough good things about this place! You have to go see for yourself. Great kitchen sets, TONS of mirrors, couches, chairs, dressers -- don't forget to go down in the basement to check out office furniture, bedroom furniture & whatnot! Now, I did go up to their Encinitas location. Smaller, much more packed, prices were higher -- I bought a small original signed print from a local artist. But I think I'll stick with going to the Hancock Street location. :) I'll be back there again later this week! read more

I used to love this store. It really was a great consignment store at one time. Now it's really hit or miss. A lot of new stuff they sell which is fine, but whoever prices the stuff anymore has just lost their minds. I see a lot of items that are used that are priced higher than when they were new. Sad. I'm sure this place isn't making as much money as it used to, really needs good strong management that is knowledgeable with the products or is willing to research the items brought in for consignment. read more

We were RIPPED off! We did not receive payment for a lovely oil painting on consignment! My husband and I searched the entire store several times and it was no where to be found! Although it was on our list, they refused to pay us for it! They made out like FAT cats as our household goods were high end and in excellent condition. To be cheated like this was so very unnecessary. The next time I'd rather just give it away! There loss...someone else's gain! I am basing our experience with this location solely on customer service, and if I were able to, I'd give it 0 stars. Hubby and I have been in this store twice and both times have received no customer service at all. The same lady has been behind the counter both times and has felt the need to ignore us. She is not a nice person whatsoever. And this is the reason why although we've found some good pieces, we would never buy them. Due to their extremely high pricing and lack of customer service, it's not worth it to us to give them any of our hard-earned money. This store is just plain awesome. It's a shame I have no room in my tiny apartment for any of the furniture in there. Why didn't I go into this store right after I got married? Why God? Why? The Awesomeness: You can get any style of furniture at a good price. I mean a real deal. You could get all your furniture in one color from the nightstands to the kitchen table or you could make your living room look like a set from a 1930s film or a set from Prince's film Graffiti Bridge. This store can make that happen for you. The best deals can be found in the basement. (This is not a Pee-Wee's Big Adventure reference, there is actually a basement.) The Not-So-Awesomeness: Its location is less than desirable. It's down the hill from the Artist & Craftsman Supply near the railroad track. If you're going to park there, I suggest parking under the bridge where it's shady. (I'm mean literally shady not the ghetto kind of shady although it's a bit ghetto shady there too.) You have to have the means to haul anything you buy out of there. So if you buy something huge, you better have a truck or know a way to borrow a truck. (This is one of the reasons why I didn't buy anything there and wound up looking around.) There are some pieces from the beloved Ikea in here. Buying used Ikea furniture here would be ideal for someone who didn't feel like putting furniture together herself, but it is always cheaper to buy Ikea furniture new and in pieces at the Ikea. read more

I found an armoire, Japanese style that is gorgeous and plenty of other items caught my eye as well. Welcome to the land of misfit furniture. Up until this last week, the last time I was in any kind of furniture store was when I was a kid, but trying to save a buck now that the money is mine, I was drawn into Consignment Classics upon driving by from MCRD. I have mixed feelings about consignments. I know you can find awesome stuff with even better deals but there is something about having something brand new that is a good piece of mind for me. I guess its all in preference. Perhaps I don't favor consignments only because I don't have the patience to scour every inch of every store for months at a time before finding the right piece but would rather walk in to a new place and point at what I like. To each their own. With that aside... Walking into the humongous warehouse it is obvious these people have a ton of furniture of all kinds! They are definitely not the type of consignment that leaves you feeling gross and filthy but are well cared for pieces of home furnishings. Mirrors, rugs, couches, chairs, dining room tables, barstools, buffet tables, tv stands, coffee tables, bed frames, dressers, etc. etc. etc. To be honest, it was a bit intimidating as to where to start and map out an attack plan to see all of the furniture that they had both upstairs and downstairs. One thing I have to say is they are really good about having full sets of matching tables or living room furniture and then, there is the oddballs.... Oddly colored/upholstered/textured seems to fit in just fine. Some pieces are strange and have a glimmer of potential but would turn out to be an eyesore in an attempt to blend into an already furnished living space. If you're the type of person who loves to buy odd pieces that no one has (or should have previously ever owned) this is the place for you. However, I will definitely return to this place when a dining room set is in order as our next furniture purchase. read more
