Very disappointing experience. I called just to inquire about a price range for a monthly cleaning of my 1-bedroom. For some reason, house cleaners are harder to pin down for an estimate than car salesman, and require that they come and view your place before they even give you a ballpark figure. This woman - Rachel - turns up at my place, and after looking around she asks what I am looking for. I say, "not much, just wondering what it would cost for a monthly pickup - floor, dusting, bathroom. The place is tiny, and never really gets that dirty to begin with, but I work a lot and thought this might be worth doing." Instead of giving me a number - any number - she asks me what I think I should pay. I stand there awkwardly for a moment, and then give her my ideal monthly price. I figure it's low... but my place is small enough to clean myself. As I said to her several times: I was just investigating this as a possibility. So... I give her my ideal number, and she busts out laughing! A nice, long, hearty laugh right in my face. She might even have wiped away a tear. This woman who I have just met is standing in my apartment, laughing in my face. I feel like an idiot. She says, "Well you'll have to get someone else to do it for that price." I reply, "Well, you asked me what I would like to pay. This whole exercise is to find out what you charge for your service - will you please tell me that now?" She eventually gives me her rate, and it's about 20% higher than the other quotes I had gotten. So, even if she hadn't been totally rude and shown about as much customer service sense as a six-year-old, I wouldn't have used her overpriced service. There's better out there - save yourself the cash and hassle and go find someone else. read more

Just wanted to give a well earned five stars to Ms. Rachel as she was exceptionally thorough and victorious at "the battle of the Oakland move-in". I called Ms. Rachel a week before to let her know I was searching for service and to do a quick run-down by phone. She was receptive, listened carefully and understood that we wanted a thorough steam cleaning of the kitchen and bathroom areas with little to no chemicals used. She was friendly and professional and my husband and I could really respect her "show-up" attitude. While I knew it wouldn't be a 1-2-3 job, I hadn't a clue how much work would be needed. Ms. Rachel came out for an estimate and did the work the same day. For what was (really) needed, it was a more than reasonable cost and I wished we were in a position to pay more because she came in, rolled up her sleeves and got to work. I mean, none of that fake wipe and go cleaning service. Good old fashioned steam, soap and water cleaning that we could trust. The place smelled so fresh and she even pointed out the problem areas in our new home; so we could get to those 'before' we moved in. We were so tired from cleaning and packing up the current location we just didn't have it in us to do all of the cleaning in the new place too. Rachel is fabulous. I will definitely be using her again and again. My life is busy. And, I like my house clean. I have enough time for tidying, and doing a surface clean, but there's a kind of cleaning that requires you to devote several hours to a project. And, frankly, I'd rather spend that time with my kids, or my spouse, or growing my business. After a few years of this kind of surface cleaning - well, the house was kind-of grossing me out. I have hired cleaning services before only to find that they did some really good tidying and surface cleaning. Not terrible, but not what I need. So - I bit the dollar bullet and hired Rachel. Yes. She is more expensive than most, but only because she insists on spending more time. Her hourly fee is very low. My house is incredibly clean. I mean - the fan blades, the filters in the hood above the stove, behind everything, under everything - deep deep clean. It feels like I just moved into a brand new apartment. And, I didn't make the list of things for her to clean. She made her own list, and cleaned so much better than I could have - even if I had the same amount of time. If what you need is someone to come and tidy - yes, you an get the job done in less time. Rachel was amazing. I just purchased a new residence (loft) in Oakland. This place hadn't been lived in for over a year. While nothing major, there was dust, dirt, and a layer of grime everywhere. I had read the one negative view of Rachel but spoke to her on the phone and she sounded nice, so I had her over for a short walk-through and estimate, and knew right away that she was the right choice for cleaning my super dusty/ dingy little house. I'm so glad I found Rachel! I don't think I've ever lived in a place that is as clean as my house now is. She worked for nearly 12 hours straight, too, and towards the end we chatted a bit and I really enjoyed her positive attitude and boldness (she moved here from Belize and is making it on her own, working while raising a daughter!) If there were any slight areas for improvement I would say that you should ask her first if you need anything already at your house-- for instance, rags, paper towels, etc. Rachel uses her own cleaning supplies but was surprised when I didn't have paper towels and had to have someone bring her some for the day. Today was the first time I've used Rachel's cleaning service. This is a decent sized house -3.5 bedrooms (one is tiny) + 2.5 baths and every room was seriously dirty. Rachel and her helper did an extraordinary job of deep cleaning this house today. They worked intensely for 12 solid hours each, yet were thoroughly professional and quite pleasant to interact with at all times. Rachel's price wasn't cheap but it was totally fair. I wrote this review earlier this year and just wanted to update it to say that I am so happy with my relationship with Conscientious Cleaners. Rachel is always on time, and when she shows up she chats with me for a few minutes and then just digs in. Our house has a lot of woodwork in it and she is able to get into all the molding to get out all the dust. The cleaning solutions she uses are green and do a great job of keeping the wood dust free too! Usually when I dust, it seems like I just push it around. Rachel moves the furniture to clean under it, which also keeps the house dust free longer. She doesn't stop for breaks, she doesn't stop to chat on the phone, she works steadily. Rachel is easily the hardest worker I know and again I am so happy that she has time to come by! The rates are excellent and the feeling of a clean house (a really clean house) is priceless. Rachel came to clean my 450 sq foot apartment for a good price considering it had been 6 months since the last professional had been there. She arrived at 9 and left at 7. I was impressed by much of her efforts (windows, oven, floors). I was not exactly happy by the ongoing price estimate being identical to the deep clean price but admit that it's hard to find decent people who can do this job. I too saw a few things that were missed or overlooked due to priority. The only real con was having someone still there when I got home; I never question whether the cleaners actually work the entire time at your place but given the size of my place 9a-7p seemed a bit long. I booked Rachel after seeing all the great reviews about her on Yelp. We purchased an investment property where the previous occupants were so dirty that a pigsty would be a sparkling clean palace in comparison. Rachel gave us a quote of a $1000 for deep cleaning of the 4 bedroom, 2 baths empty house. To give you an understanding of what she was dealing with, I can say that all the walls were dirty, windows, floor, ceiling, built-in closets, an absolutely filthy kitchen with fat-dripping opening where the exhaust hood used to be, the doors - everything was filthy-dirty-disgusting. Rachel spent 3.5 days cleaning it alone and did a good job. She was thorough, scrubbing and cleaning from the morning to the evening. Rachel is an immigrant from Belize. She is straightforward, no b/s person. To finish up the job she had to cancel another customer. She is a woman working alone, so you have to book with an understanding that changes may happen and there will be no one to replace her to clean your house if she is unable to make it. read more

I was so disappointed with the entire experience. I had an appointment set for 8am on a Friday . We were selling our condo and needed the bathroom and kitchen cleaned. We had just painted a layer of fresh paint, new flooring, and new base board. The place was empty and clean but the kitchen and bathroom needed cleaning. Our condo is a 1BD/1BATH and the bathroom is a half bath with a small sink and our kitchen is small. The entire condo is 600 sq.ft with the majority of that space used in the loving room and bedroom. The bad experience started with Rachel being 45 minutes late. This would have bothered me as much if I still lived in our condo but I commuted there and got there on time. When she arrived late, she had nothing to say about it.(Which is fine, whatever, I got over it!) When she came in to inspect the condo, I showed her what I wanted clean... the bathroom, the kitchen, and asked if she would remove the paint specks on our new floors(I had already removed some, they just scratch off). When I asked about the paint specks, she replied with "I don't do that". (Okay, I guess I'll do it myself-- I thought you cleaned homes?!?!-- Whatever, I can live with doing that myself) Then after a poor inspection, she quoted me way more then the other quotes I had gotten previously. I had gotten my last apartment cleaned for $80 less and the place was bigger! After I discussing the price(which I hate doing and usually never negotiate but since she was late and I would have to finish cleaning after she left--- Why should I pay more then most cleaning services). She said that "This is an inconvenience for you and an inconvenience for me. WAIT?! HUH?! ----- An inconvenience for you? I'm giving you my business and money. I just wasn't having it after that. I have never had such poor service from ANY service company. Rachel is unprofessional and just straight up rude. I ended up cleaning the whole place by myself because we had an open house the next day. DO NOT USE HER SERVICES--- unless you want to waste your time & energy. Hope this helps someone. read more

Rachel just did a full cleaning of a newly purchased house. Let me tell you, this place is big (2,300 square feet), with high ceilings, over 100 years old, and man was it dirty. Rachel worked non-stop to get everything done in two days. She did a great job, taking care to cover all the details, and was extremely good-natured throughout the entire time. The price she quoted me was more than reasonable, and in the end I was so impressed with how hard she worked that I ended up paying her extra. Rachel came to our home to do a deep cleaning. She arrived nice and early with her daughter and a friend and the three of them cleaned throughout the day for 11.5 hours. It was insane. It all seemed really thorough at the time, but I have to say, there were numerous areas that were missed or forgotten when we inspected the next day, including a couple of closets, window sills, kitchen cubbard doors, etc. I think Rachel's team did an overall decent job, however, I would not call it sparkly perfect and therefore not worthy of 5 stars. She and her daughter deep cleaned our apartment on a Sunday with very little notice. Simply put, Rachel is a powerhouse. She is very attentive to details (like windowsills, cabinet doors, light switches, baseboards, etc.). Our apartment is 2 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and her price was only $180. I thought that was very reasonable. She spent 8+ hours in our home. The only thing I was sad about is that I won't be able to re-hire her because she's very allergic to dogs and cats. My husband is German, and beyond particular. He was very skeptical about Rachel, how much she charged, and whether she would be up to snuff. Even he had to admit that she worked much harder and for longer than he EVER would. She put in four ten hour days, and cleaned, scrubbed, dusted, wiped every single horizontal and vertical surface. There wasn't an inch of the house that wasn't sparkling and cleaned of years of accumulated grease and grime. My stove hasn't looked this good since I bought it. Yes, she was expensive-- $800 for the four days it actually took her. But she thought she would be finished in three, it was worth every penny of it. It's 6pm and Rachel has been in my apartment since 9am sharp, scrubbing every little corner until it sparkles. I don't know how she does it! She moved all of my furniture back to get at the dirt and dust underneath, and moved it all back perfectly into place. And she isn't just wiping away the surface dirt, she's scrubbing away years of rust and grime in my kitchen, bathrooms and floors. We have a problem with mold in the second bathroom, and she did extra deep cleaning in there to make sure it wasn't just clean for the short-term, but stayed that way. She doesn't make a mess or use too many chemicals/towels, just hard work. Instead of hiring a big cleaning company, chose Rachel! Not only is she friendly and hard-working, her rates are much lower as well.
