Bob is a great guy and was pleasant to work with. However, his step-daughter Brittney was not a very good business partner, and there appears to be a lot of turnover, which showed in the overall experience. The installation itself was completed on schedule, but I was left to clean everything up afterward. The crew did not clean, and after I pointed out a few issues, they did come back and address them. That said, there were quality concerns, such as using gray nails on a black garage component and not installing an edger. I also added an item that their installer did not complete. When I later requested a quote for two additional closets, I was upfront and transparent that I planned to get three quotes. I was then told I would have to pay $100 for a quote because I had used a competitor for other projects in my home. I found this unreasonable and unprofessional. read more

The scheduling was extremely poorly managed. Their arrival time kept changing throughout the day, and we were left waiting all day. They finally showed up around 3:30 PM and did not finish the work until after 8:00 PM. The quality of the work was even worse. The workmanship was very sloppy. They scratched the paint on the wall, damaged the closet area, and never repaired it properly. I called the office the following day to report both the poor scheduling and the unacceptable quality of work. No one followed up with us. The only response we received was a text message stating that if we wanted the problems fixed, they would need to send someone else--and that it would cost us extra. This is completely unacceptable. Final thoughts: I'm really glad we hired Conquering Clutter. The installer, Joshua, arrived early and on time, which is a huge plus. I can't stand when people make you wait around with no update. Joshua made to prep the area to ensure the area was clean. The install left some dust, but it was easily wiped off. We have a "no shoes inside" policy, and asked Joshua if he could remove his shoes when stepping outside the prepped area. He respected our wishes. At the end of the work day, he made sure to clean up the work area. He was a very kind person and is really good at what he does. The cabinets are beautiful and matched the 3D rendering of the cabinets, created by Brittany, so there were no surprises. The cabinets are very spacious and we now have plenty of storage space. We're really happy with the cabinets and know that should we have any concerns, that they will be addressed by the Conquering Clutter team. We received quotes for a custom closet from several places and Conquering Clutter gave us the best pricing and didn't try to upsell us on extras that we didn't need/want. Our custom designer was Brittney Stegerman and she really took time coming over and working with my wife about the vision she had for what she wanted, which was a floating wall mounted shelf. She needed a statement shelf that would accentuate a large mirror and two Terracotta statues. My wife wanted the color of the wood to match, which Brittney supplied samples so that we could pick out the one that matched best. Once that was chosen, we decided on a 6 inch shelf instead of 3 inches. And wow, did that make a difference. After interviewing 6 (yes 6, during the pandemic no less) different shutter vendors, we ultimately went with Conquering Clutter mainly for 2 reasons: 1) Their rates are extremely competitive. This may be due to the fact that their shutters are not made in the US, but the quality and aesthetics are just as great as the other ones I've seen. 2) It's a family owned business and the owners, Robert and Kathleen, are super sweet. Robert came out to give the demo - he was punctual and professional. Brownie points for wearing booties and a facemask. I was a bit concerned at first because there weren't many reviews and none of them addressed shutters - if you've read through the reviews, you can see most of them are about upgrading closets and garage storage spaces (hence...conquering clutter). But Robert reassured me they had a long running business for installing shutters back in Chicago before moving here. The only other concern I had was that responses were a bit slow and the installation date was delayed, but I'm sure they're busy due to all the demands in the renovation business during this time. OK so onto how they did. On the day of installation, it was one installer, which surprised me, but actually was for the better, again, because of the pandemic, the less people in our household, the better. The installer was friendly and quick. He installed 16 shutters by himself within a few hours. Overall I'm very happy with the look, quality and price. The installers arrived and they were both very friendly and professional. One was named Jose, I can't remember the other's name. It took them about 7 hours to install. When they were finished, I noticed a few scratches, which probably happened in transit (they assemble some of the pieces at their warehouse and put it all together at the customer's home). I cannot say enough about Brittney Stegermen and Conquering Clutter. We purchased a home that needed all of the closets to be redone to be functional and to serve our needs (we don't have a ton of storage otherwise, so we needed shelving in addition to typical hanging space). Additionally, we have a lot of different clothing items to accommodate (including extra long gowns and heavy military uniforms). In consulting with closet organizers, we received bids from both Conquering Clutter and California Closets and we could not be happier that we went with Conquering Clutter for the customer service, cost, and quality. Brittney was just the best. Super responsive and available almost 24/7, so was able to respond professionally and courteously to all of our random questions, design tweaks, and concerns. We had some specific design requests, like black hardware, and she was able to accommodate all of it. The night before our install, I had a moment of panic at 10:30 that the design had not taken into account an internet fixture on our wall and the team would not be able to install a back panel. Not only did Brittney respond to my late night text, she actually looked up our design, saw that the panel was not noted, but assured me that the installation team would have everything on hand to accommodate. The installation team was truly top notch. We had four closets to completely demo and install and they were on time, efficient, and super courteous of our home. They covered everything, from the floor where they staged the closet pieces to the area where they put their tools to the walking path they took through our house. When I needed to have the height of one of the hanging spaces adjusted, at the end of a long day, they happily accommodated me. They were so friendly, worked a literal eight-hour day to get the job done with no down time, and left our home in the same condition as when they entered. This may seem like it should be industry standard, but we are currently also going through a long and painful renovation where neither our design "professional" nor any of her vendors/subcontractors have done anything to protect or care for our home while in it.
