Decided to break for lunch in Hardwick during my travel to the NE Kingdom. Though Hardwick is cute, it's more of a pass through town than a destination. There were a handful of restaurants that were open but none appealed to us. Most seemed greasier than what we were in the mood for. Checked out their coop (grocery) but their cafe was closed. So bought some prepared foods at the coop and found Connie's across the street close to a cute little park. They are situated on a corner in a yellow painted Victorian close to a bridge. They have a few tables for indoor dining. I opted mine to go. Connie's is simple and wholesome basics done well. ++. Food is breakfast, lunch and baked treats. I tried their roast beef sandwich on their freshly baked wheat bread and some chips. Drink wise they have a few sodas and ice tea. +++ price is very reasonable. $8.88 for my sandwich and chips and rest of $10 into their tip jar. +++. Service was friendly and prompt. My sammie was made in 10 minutes while they had 2 other customers' orders. 2 ladies worked fast and my sammie was exactly as ordered :-) ++. Parking is street and free. They seem to have many locals. But this is a small town that likely rely on tourists so check them out if you fancy wholesome breakfast options and sandwiches! read more

Stuck in our house for now over six months my daughter and I felt we had had enough so decided to take a trip to Vermont. My Daughter decided to select East Hardwick as our destination, a random selection, and given it was the fall season we felt we had arrived in Heaven as the foliage had already turned to red, yellow, orange, pink, purple, and colors that a mind cannot even imagine. If you are in heaven, one would expect heavenly food, and heavenly food we did get as we were recommended to have breakfast at a local restaurant called "Connie's". The place is small, and is at a corner of strip and they offer both breakfast as well as Baked goods. Since we both have a sweet tooth, we decided to skip the breakfast and ordered a bunch of desserts, Blondies, Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Buttercream Cake and the apple cider Donuts. Given our excitement, we decided not to waste any time and sat right outside of the restaurant, and my daughter went for the donuts, while I attacked the Butter cream cake. Just One bite of the cake and I felt I had tasted heaven and rushed back in to secure any others that were for sale so I can preserve them for the ride back home and beyond. I shared my sentiments with Terry, a very pleasant lady behind the counter and she shared that the restaurant was named after her mother whose recipe has been handed down through the generations and it was her grand daughter who had baked those heavenly cakes that I just had tasted. I thanked them for the wonderful treat, and Terry also recommended we visit Lake Willoughby during our stay there, which was one of the best recommendations I received. That cake was probably one of the best desserts I have tasted in a very long time. Thank you Terry for making this trip so memorable and God Bless Connie! read more

Wow. I totally forgot to give Connie's some well deserved love. Here it goes! We were taking the drive from Stowe to Hill Farmstead (Greensboro) last month and you don't pass much, but I found this place before our travels, thanks to Yelp. As we were getting close, I called in and asked if they were still making breakfast sandwiches (it was 11am on a Saturday) and they told me no problem, so I ordered up two sammies and they were all ready when we arrived 10 minutes later. The woman working was super sweet and was kind enough to get me a small cup for ketchup since there were no packets on hand (good!) and I neglected to ask for it on the sandwiches. They had a few treats also available (cookies looked fantastic) and self-serve coffee too. Small parking lot too. Small interior, but what a sandwich. That Portuguese roll was slightly sweet and so fresh. Drooling just thinking about this gem. read more

Stopped in for breakfast at Connie's Kitchen. They had an assortment of cooked to order breakfast foods and home cooked bakery goods. I had the Lumberjack which is bacon and egg sandwiched between two pieces of French Toast and a side of delicious maple syrup. The French Toast was cooked perfectly and very large pieces..and lots of bacon! Would definitely recommend stopping here if you're in the area! read more

Caution: there's some high praise in this review but it's well deserved. We stopped in on a weekday morning during a vacation to this small cafe for breakfast. I was floored at how reasonable the prices were for what you get. The prices are the good part but the food is incredible; the bread was so good I demanded to my fiance we come back the next morning (we did). Between two breakfasts and some to-go sandwiches and a whoopy pie I can confidently say I've never been more satisfied at any restaurant. We live in the Midwest and aren't in Vermont often, but next time we are I hope this place is still around. read more
