My go-to is their Mango Pomelo Sago, which you can also get the jumbo size. For two people, I'd recommend the standard size - that's usually enough, especially if you've already eaten a meal and this is your dessert. The taste of this alone is worthy of a 5-star review for Hui Lau Shan. I think the combination of pomelo and sago with the mango and ice cream really goes together deliciously well. But hey, there's more! I was introduced to their mango mochi, which comes in easy-to-take-home packaging. So it's quite easy to eat the Mango Pomelo Sago on site while bringing more yummy dessert home for snacking on later. It's utterly delicious. Service is fast. This location is in the poppin' Dun Hwang Plaza of Bellaire Chinatown, so if it's hard to find parking in the lot, use the parking complexes - it so happens that Hui Lau Shan's location is really close to one of the Dun Hwang parking complexes, making things really convenient. So they had to call the owner for help. The owner apparently told them not to honor the redemption because they were in the process of switching rewards program platforms, and what used to be a 50‑point reward was going to be a 300‑point reward. The staff said my points would transfer eventually, but I only will have 63 -- not enough under the new system. Hey, I'm no entrepreneur. But I am a customer who eats out all the time. And to me this is a textbook example of an owner who doesn't get customer service. I drove all the way there, dealt with the parking, and came specifically to redeem a reward that still showed as valid in their app. It's not my fault their system hadn't switched over yet. These cakeball and truffle treats are only the size of a donut hole. It's not one of their higher end desserts. I gravitate toward eggplant on almost every restaurant menu that has this luscious vegetable. So, I chose to order the grilled eggplant entree that included jasmine rice and I added grilled shrimp skewers to mine for some added protein. While we waited for our food, we could not help but notice the absolutely beautiful decor within and a very tasteful mural with a Vietnamese scene. The plates on the tables appeared to be handmade and added a nice touch. We also noticed that the diners receive their food pushed out to them on carts by the waitstaff. That was an awesome touch. They compensate for the lack of cart delivery of our takeout items by placing them in the most lovely and sturdy paper bag with the restaurant logo on it. Those touches do matter. Hope even brought us a Mango Iced Tea that was made with house made mango syrup. It perked us right up and gave us the boost we needed to continue on to the hotel to prepare for our in room picnic.
