Comprehensive Pain Management - Cancellation/missed appointments fees & policy

I should've read the reviews before going here. I had to miss an appointment due to a personal…read moreemergency. I called about 10 minutes into the appointment and let them know, they said it was too late to come in. That part I understand. They told me I couldn't come in again without paying them $200 missed appointment fee. The appointment was for an office procedure that takes a few minutes to set up and maybe five minutes to administer. They REFUSED TO TREAT ME WITH A MEDICALLY NECESSARY TREATMENT until I paid them that $200!!! In case you are curious, here are their cancellation fees (if you have to cancel with less than 72 hours notice start looking for a new provider or show up with a not insignificant amount of cash available): $200 for procedure (even if it takes less than 10 minutes) $100 for an Initial Evaluation $50 for a follow-up appointment While I waited for my last appointment there, I could clearly hear the patient in the next room sharing very personal details and they weren't talking loudly because our rooms were only separated by a hollow door and there was loud banging grunting and yelling from the floor above which houses a day program for adults with significant developmental challenges. This place is awful.

STAY AWAY!! I wish I could choose negative stars!! After a few months of back and forth with my…read morePCP, a few tests and a visit to a neurosurgeon, I was referred to this pain clinic by the PA at my neurosurgeon's practice. I went in for an eval on 7/24/25; however, it took two weeks to get an appointment for a spinal injection for bulging discs/cord issues. PLEASE NOTE: This clinic DOES NOT have a patient portal which seems a bit insane to me, especially after seeing what was in my record!! Fortunately for me, my physical therapist wanted their report so he would know what was done. My injection was on 8/19/25 and on 8/24 I asked them for a copy of MY patient records which they emailed to me on 8/25. These notes showed the patient as presenting with "scar tissue (different areas listed) from harvesting muscles/skin for grafts. Large dressing on head, deep open lesions, etc."................I could go on and on! While some of the report was about me, more than 80% of the notes on this report were not mine! I made many phone calls and sent many emails and finally received a "corrected" report on 9/10. They also included my original report which Dr. Shwartzman had marked up. Whoever redid the report missed making half of the corrections! But at least all of the head trauma notes were taken out. Fast-forward to my follow-up with the PA at my neuro's office. They NEVER received the updated report and still saw the head trauma! I begged them not to refer any other patients to this clinic!!!! I now have to somehow figure out how to get those incorrect notes off of my permanent medical records!!!

I had an excellent experience with Interventional Pain…read moreAssociates of MA. There were a couple minor speed bumps with the new practice, but nothing unexpected or out of the ordinary. Dr. Lomonaco is truly fantastic - he got me back running pain-free after an injury had sidelined me for a couple months. My wife has been seeing Dr. Lomonaco for a long time and is the reason I decided to give him a try. She has never had anything but positive things to say about her experience with him. I also received a call the very next day from the medical assistant to check in on how I was doing post-procedure. I thought this was a thoughtful touch that really stood out. I don't recall receiving this level of personalized, attentive customer service at other practices l've visited in the past. It's the little things like this follow-up call that add up and are always greatly appreciated. Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend Interventional Pain Associates of MA to anyone seeking relief from pain. Dr. Lomonaco's expertise, the friendly and caring staff, and the commitment to patient satisfaction is unmatched in my experience. I'm grateful to be back on my feet running pain free thanks to the excellent care l received at IPA of MA. -MpD

I was in serious pain and was seen on the same day I made the call, that in itself is amazing. Upon arrival, the staff was professional and very concerned about my condition. They listened closely as I described my ailment and told me everything that they were doing. When Dr. Blake came in I was very nervous and she recognized my heighten state. She took her time examining me and throughout the process she remained very calm and explained what she was doing. She gave me her diagnosis along with a follow-up treatment plan. The staff then proceeded to take care of all the follow-up appointments needed, from booking my MRI to calling my PCP to get prior approval. That has never happened to me with any other Doctor's office. Usually I'm the one making all the calls. I wish I could give Boston Pain Specialist a perfect 10 but 5 is the highest on Yelp. I totally recommend them if you are looking for caring and professional people.

Dr Hummel diagnosed me with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome to the right side of my neck, my right shoulder, arm and hand. Dr Hummel has been working with me with pain management and I am so glad I was referred to see Dr Hummel. I was in a lot of pain, Dr Hummel has helped me manage my pain. He introduced me to a spinal cord stimulator, after the trial I wanted to keep the trial stimulator because it helped me by lowering the amount of pain I had. There is no cure for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome...I know I can count on Dr Hummel and his NP Ashley to help me manage my pain.

Due to traffic, I was 10 minutes late and he wouldn't see me. I, too, was upset. But I realized that others were waiting to use the procedure room I was supposed to be in, and it had been passed on since I was late. I haven't been late since! But, after 11 years, he's STILL the best around, in my opinion. I hear so many times from family and friends of doctors who aren't helping them. I always refer them to Dr. Hummel. After all these years, he still takes the time to talk with me and find out how I'm managing my pain. I was in the hospital for knee replacement surgery, and THAT doctor left me in pain for 7 hours! When he finally got the meds changed, one nurse read the order wrong, and was refusing to give it to me! THAT'S a bad pain doctor! I'll never switch from Dr. Hummel.
