When asked about the remainder of the work, the owner stated 'he didn't have time to complete' at the moment but would return in (2) weeks to complete. He never showed up. I lost $2250.00.

All told, the estimate was $15,000 which was less than other contractors quoted us, so we hired them: that was a mistake. They take no pride in the work they do and the actual workers cut corners and seem to have very little support from management. Since they left the work site, there is a giant pit where they dug up to access the foundation. There is a difference between settling and this pit. This is not settling. This is cutting corners to finish the job quickly. Since the pit revealed itself, I have found entire bricks, pieces of metal, giant screws, large chunks of mortar, and...what seems to be an entire flue. It was all just buried about two inches below the dirt, that once "settled" it was all revealed. Absolute laziness. They also threw the bricks off the roof, damaging my gutter extender. The workers also carted large volumes of dirt and dumped it in a flower bed with young bushes we planted last Fall in my backyard. Never talked to me about it, never asked. I've been working to shift that dirt around to salvage the plants, but I imagine they are dead by now. Given the carelessness of this exterior work, the amount of debris I heard falling into my chimney and on top of my gas fireplace insert is likely still in there and it would not surprise me if it was damaged as well. Finally, they repointed the brickwork in my basement: I am still cleaning up the basement trying to remove the dust and debris. They used plastic sheeting to "seal off" the work area, but...it didn't work. The basement is absolutely caked in the dust, and it has taken me multiple attempts to mop, dust, and vacuum to clean it up. I'm still trying to clean it up. Also, they used personal items from my basement to hold the plastic sheeting in place. Again, didn't ask, didn't talk to me about it, just did it. Once I realized how poorly they approached their work, I tried calling the number on their website only to realize it was different from the Angi's one and "out of service." Honestly, I would have paid several thousand dollars more for someone who takes pride in the work they do and respects that the work site is someone's home than hire these guys. You want cheap prices, you're going to get cheap work.

J. Corrigan - Concrete landing

My roof was leaking for some time now & I have been putting this repair off, too long. Now my mother-in-law is coming to visit & I'm in a bind. I called J. Corrigan for an estimate. Let's start off by saying that J. Corrigan met every deadline, every commitment & every promise he made. He said that his estimate covered everything & that there would be no extra charges for any rotted wood & he kept his promise. His estimate was high, but he could start right away. I was stuck! J. Corrigan removed the old roof completely & installed the new roof including four (4) sheets of plywood. It's been a year now & during that time we have had two very heavy rain storms. One in fact was the heaviest rain I have ever seen! The roof performed flawlessly! It was the best money I ever spent. That was the good news, now for the constructive criticism. As any good businessman would do, J. Corrigan found three other repairs that needed attention. 1. Gutter replacement. 2. Rear chimney complete rebuild. 3. Repair & repaint the family room ceiling where the bad water leak was. I later had a painter repair & paint my family room ceiling. His price was almost identical to the J. Corrigan estimate. Although, friends later told me that I paid too much for the family room ceiling. Rear chimney. This wasn't a surprise to me, I could see bricks chipping & falling apart! I saw the need for this repair a couple of years ago. J. Corrigan verbally gave me a price of $6000 in April 2017 for the chimney along with an explanation of the repair. When he came back in March 2018 his written estimate was $9000 for the chimney & same repair. The large increase didn't sit right with me, so I started calling around for other estimates. I went with a chimney guy that did this work for two friends who gave me first hand accounts of his work. The "other chimney guy" did 90% of the work that J. Corrigan estimated for less than half the price. Granted, this is not an exact comparison, but this was a huge price difference! The "other chimney guy" did a good job & was satisfied with him. To sum it up, J. Corrigan did an excellent job on my roof, I would recommend him to anyone, but consider the price when looking around. I still think he did a great job on the roof & some things you don't skimp on.

We called CORRIGAN and he took no responsibility but said he could redo it for $5000. We agreed reluctantly. It now exhibits substantial cracking and breaking pieces. It appears that CORRIGAN does not have any employees. Rather he seems to be a middle man, subcontracting any job he gets, while approximately doubling the subcontracting fee. This has value if he utilizes competent subcontractors. Unfortunately it was not the case in either instance. You can use Google to search for a contractor, close your eyes, point at the screen, and have a better chance of finding a competent contractor than by calling CORRIGAN. Even if you pointed at poor choice, you could repeat the process and find another contractor while likely spending less money than you paid CORRIGAN

I was initially impressed with Martin's knowledge and demeanor, but disappointed with the final results. The chimney looked worse from the ground. Damaged bricks were noticeable and when I questioned Martin about using the worn out bricks I was told I received what he quoted and the work was guaranteed for 15-years against leaks. Martin pointed out a second chimney had a lose crown that needed to be cemented in place and it could be done for $500. I had subsequently received a quote from another mason for $4200 to repair both chimney's including 24 courses of new brick. I had the second mason work on the second chimney and remove the chimney crown using 2 courses of new brick with a new 4" thick latex modified concrete cap with an 1 1/2" overhang. Damaged flu's that were cracked were replaced and a new rain cap was installed. When I asked about the chimney Affordable Roofing & Masonry had worked on I was told the bricks should be replaced to the roof line or removed and the roof repaired. Affordable Roofing & Masonry did not offer these options. I didn't know anything about chimney repair at the time and had difficulty finding a mason to do the work. I liked the responsiveness of Affordable Roofing & Masonry, but I would never use them again.
