I'd like to preface my review with a paragraph from a study article by
Ladan Shams & Aaron R. Seitz from the Department of Psychology, University of California:
"...Our experience in the world involves constant multisensory stimulation.
For instance, visual and auditory information are integrated in performing many tasks that involve localizing and tracking moving objects. Therefore, the human brain has evolved to develop, learn and operate optimally in multisensory environments. ... Multisensory-training protocols can better approximate natural settings and are more effective for learning.
... Perceptual and cognitive mechanisms are tuned
to processing multisensory signals. Under such a regime,
encoding, storing and retrieving perceptual information is
intended by default to operate in a multisensory environment, and unisensory processing is often suboptimal..."
... As we can see, this and many other studies like it show the importance of a multisensory engagement in any learning method.
Whenever developing a new skill or learning new information, the more parts of the brain that are activated at once the stronger the ability to recall and utilize afterward becomes. Science continues to show that this is crucial for optimal learning, as multi-sensory learning allows more cognitive connections and improves information retention.
The Instructor of this class does just that...he combines teaching techniques such as visual & verbal; thorough descriptions and explanations, displays written dialog via a projector, and includes other visual aids such as pictures and videos as he moves through each topic in a very naturally progressive order that makes it easy to follow along.
he encourages note-taking, which as we all know is an effective studying aid and makes test taking much easier, and of course helps you remember it beyond the test as well. Additionally, he even further increases your learning capacity via the use of both in class demonstrations and hands-on, guided experience during the shooting portion that takes place after the class in the range.
Not only is he knowledgeable and experienced in everything to do with firearms, hes an excellent and accommodating instructor who is also very passionate about safety and will make sure you feel fully confident and comfortable during throughout the class and all the way through, and even manages to throw in a little humor along the way to keep things on a fun note and keep everyone engaged.
The shooting portion is controlled, fair, and he is right there to watch and assist when needed. I highly recommend this course to anyone seeking a pistol permit.
I also loved that the classroom instruction, test taking, and shooting are all done on-site, so you don't have to leave to meet up at a separate location for anything--something I found very efficient and convenient and that is not the same with other classes.
As a female I felt very nervous and shy when I signed up and walking into the building where the class was held, but by the time I left I felt great about my decision in choosing his class, and from a customer-service perspective I was completely satisfied with my experience in every aspect.
He's very professional and does a great job keeping a "judgement-free-zone" type of atmosphere in the class and encourages questions because he truly wants to make sure everyone gets the most from the class.
At the end of the class you get a signed certificate, which you can submit to your city/town with your full pistol permit application and Brian makes himself available to you during that process, should you need help or advice.
Lastly, I'm pleased to report that you will also be eligible for promotional deals that are specially offered thru the class that you will be able to take advantage of when you come back to practice at the range!
Brian will give you more info at the end of the class--so be sure to opt in for his and you'll be glad you did all around! read more
