When I looked into it, Berlitz was good but I could not afford the price. I had taken community college language classes and found them wanting. I found Alliance through a google search. I am now starting my 4th year. The classes that I have taken have been taught by native speakers with degrees who have been patient and supportive. Most if not all of the classes are all in French. My fellow classmates have been from various backgrounds, ages, and fluency levels. There has not been any grandstanding by students with a higher level of French over those like me who are beginners. I look forward to my classes, which meet for 2 hours once a week. I would not consider myself fluent, however, looking over the books from my first semester, I feel that I have made a great deal of progress, in reading speaking and listening. There are no grades, and it is really a program where you get what you put in. As a matter of full disclosure, I have enjoyed my experience so much, I have recently joined the Alliance board.
