I've always gotten a kick out of receiving the town's bi-yearly adult ed brochure, and reading…read moreabout the different classes offered (a two week course on "How to Turn on a Computer," "Basic Coastal Navigation," "Gum Paste Flower Bouquets," and let's not forget "The Enneagram & You"...). But until recently, scheduling conflicts always prevented me from enrolling. Luckily, that changed last month, when my husband, brother, and sister-in-law signed up for a Vietnamese spring roll class taught by Kevin Nguyen, the owner of Pho 75 in Windsor Locks. New to the adult ed "scene," we weren't sure what to expect when we pulled up to our local high school. The class was taught in a home ec room, and we were joined by fifteen or so other people, varying in age from teenage to senior citizen. Kevin provided a recipe-- and of course, all of the ingredients-- then demonstrated the process. He was engaging and friendly as he demystified seemingly complicated techniques, and we really enjoyed the two-hour class. We each made between four and six spring rolls (which were delicious, by the way), and it was well worth the low $22 fee. We've since made spring rolls at home, and are so glad to have learned how to do it! I would encourage anyone-- you don't even have to be a Windsor Locks resident, although they do receive priority-- to check out the town's (or your town's) adult ed offerings. Classes are usually fairly inexpensive, and hey, it'll keep you off the streets. ;)

The summer class would mean for me to graduate in a timeframe that I need to in order for me to move forward with my career. I would really appreciate that the staff would care about their students and the ones that are checked out I will hope their superiors are noticing the amount of errors and the lack of follow through so they can have people who actually want to work there work there.

Don't let the stigma of community colleges fool you…read more This is a wonderful school at a much lower cost than other traditional post-secondary institutions. Majority of the staff are super nice and kind. My professors were amazing; a lot of them were/are not only professionals in their field of study (my Forensic Science instructor, Bob O'Brien, worked under Dr. Henry Lee, otherwise known as the godfather of modern forensics), but amazing and helpful individuals that truly wanted to see their students succeed. Their tutoring/writing center and academic counselors are also wonderful; you just need to seek out their assistance on your own (it's not high school, so there will be no hand-holding here). There's also a book scholarship fund for those who are struggling financially in the Student Affairs office. Definitely seek that out as well if applicable. Also, Robert Turner is THE gentleman to seek out if you plan on transferring in courses or transferring out of the school to another institution. :) Basically, it's a great school with a great price, with a super supportive community. I highly recommend that anyone looking to take some courses, whether it be for personal enrichment or prerequisites for a four-year degree look here first. I plan on completing my Paralegal Certification here once I can secure an 8-5 shift at my fulltime job (so I'll be able to take night classes). :D

I would highly recommend this as a first daycare option--she welcomes children up until they move on to Pre-K or Kindergarten. Along the way, we've also met such wonderful families and friends through this experience. Before finding Mrs. Yelena we visited multiple day care centers, we never liked the place, the people or simply we did not feel comfortable with the setting. (As first time parents we were nervous). When we first visited Mrs. Yelena we knew, we knew right away, we had found a place where our daughter could play, learn and grow. It felt like, and it is for our daughter, a home away from home. The small group really allows Mrs. Yelena to focus on the kids and their growth, our daughter, learned to clean up after herself, snack time and sharing, gave up the diaper, started napping (she only naps during the week, not on weekends), playing with other kids, climbing, painting, snow, new songs, English! She started singing all out and expressing herself in so many creative new ways. Every so often you meet people that have found their calling, when you meet Mrs. Yelena you can tell she is doing what she loves to do. She is a great educator, with so much warmth and kindness. Every single day the kids are playing with something new to stimulate a new sense, or new songs, or planting trees. A beautiful place and environment for kids to grow in. I highly recommend Mrs. Yelena's Educational place in West Hartford and Mrs. Yelena, if anything everyone who cares about their kids should visit her place to see what a loving and nurturing environment looks like.
