I had unopened packs of all the following: adult incontinence underwear, bed pads, washable bibs, baby wipes, disposable gloves, etc. I went to the office, went inside and told them I had a donation. They looked at me like I was weird. I said can someone come outside to unload? They looked so disinterested and I must have given them 300 dollars worth of stuff. Two people came out, took the stuff and went in. Not even a thank you!!! I would have been better off standing outside a supermarket and handing out the stuff myself to needy elders!!!

Visiting Angels provide TRUE companionship for the elderly. They talk, the listen, they care and the respond. Most importantly for me is that I have a great caseworker who keeps me in the loop with things that occur in the house. She is a great resource for suggestions on how to handle tricky situations and also a great resource to coordinate things like food deliveries and other things that take place in the house while I am away. If you are reading this you have a loved one that needs support, it is a stressful situation and you sometimes feel like anything you do will be a mistake. His title should really be"community used car salesman". While he initially came across as caring, I got the same vibe that I have gotten while car shopping: - "we have a low income program that would work well for your aunt, but I only have 1 bed left at that rate. You can sign up today with no obligation" - "if she can't afford the program, there are other assistance programs, such as PACE, that can make up the difference between the cost of our program and her SS income"......TAKES OUT HIS PHONE, STARTS CALCULATOR, ASKS ABOUT HER INCOME...says "she definitely qualifies for our low income program, VLIT. You can apply for PACE, but in the interim, she will have to arrange for private payment of the difference". - he gave us the phone number of the local PACE Administrator. When we called, we were told that Atria does not participate in PACE. So, what was Adam talking about ? Well, when I called to tell him that we were told that Atria didn't take PACE, he said "oh, I was just trying to help you find a place that does take PACE. I"m sorry if you misunderstood", yet both my fiancee and I came away with the exact understanding (that they could sign her aunt up for 'VLIT', and that whatever her SS income didn't cover would have to be "private pay" until she got on PACE"). While the facility itself was nice, the sales process was less than transparent or honest, in my opinion.
