Signs reading "This is a SIGN, to visit us", and "What is this place? Find out inside" are just the beginning of Connect's attraction to your curiosity. If the visual beacon of trippy multi-colored melting smiley faces painted on the storefront don't draw you in, then maybe the pile of old phones, robot lamps, and banana chandelier that present as a sort of art installation in the front window will. Walking in to the walls skinned with graf art murals - cleverly placed found items and props filling nooks and corners, is the second layer of unlocking the enigma. Entering the main room it begins to come clear - Connect is truly one of a kind. Three rooms with curated collections of merch from local designers, artists, vintage and secondhand clothing, jewelry, and other unique collectibles - the place is packed with gems. If you like to shop small and support local businesses, this is the place to pull up at. The owner Robert and staff are always friendly and welcoming providing a positive experience for every visitor. Don't sleep on Shift either! It's Connect's adjoining gallery and event space just next door. Hosting a variety of gatherings from art openings, to mini raves, performance art, and fashion shows - there's always something in the works over there. Connect San Diego and Sh!ft are my two favorite places in San Diego-- not just OB but the whole tRi-sTaTe-aReaaaa! Not only is it such an amazing hub for local creators and artists to show case their work, but it's also an amazing event space for the community. They got fashion shows and raves and speed dating-- oh my! It's all about the community and shout out the owner Rob for building such a beautiful community in OB. The person who answered was a male and he told me my idea would be cheap and laughed. The employees are usually a reflection of the owner. Rude asf.
