The "contract" they sent us to sign was incomplete, missing entire sections and had errors, which we had to point out. Still they didn't revise it. They refused to let us review materials prior to submission to the Historical Commission, which was required given the historic designation of the house. Kept insisting they knew better and had experience working with historical commissions. Their quote for custom rebuild of the railings and columns was so overpriced, that even the Historical Commission staff was astounded. Finally they pulled out of the contract because their Commission application was about to be scrutinized, and they had a lot of work ahead. They did return a nominal amount of the retainer to us. The company had come highly recommended, yet our experience with them was sub par.

For the last five years we have been trying to get "one more year" out of the roof. When the vendor who cleans our gutters said we had a roofing section down to bare wood we became mobilized. On December 26th, using Google reviews, we called the first roofer presenting, Pinnacle Exteriors, (they had 20 five-star reviews and was from the neighboring town) Chris was over within about two hours that same day, had taken photos and was able to show us where the issues existed. We considered other roofers, some even recommended by close friends, but Chris stood out with his no nonsense, can do, we can fit it in during a break in the weather over the next two weeks, approach. Other roofers didn't seem to want the job. Chris considers this time of year in many ways optimal to be installing a roof. When a clear weather day approached with a 40 degrees forecast, Chris let me know that was the day. On Jan 23, 2024, a crew of nine arrived and completed both house and garage roof replacements in one day (7:30 am to 5:00 pm). Chris and his entire crew are very professional, knowledgeable and very easy to communicate with. They are real craftsmen taking extra care in all their work. Even repairing some issues with our chimneys and gutters. Chris and his son Nick went into the attic and covered everything and then cleaned up after. They did a thorough clean up and also used a large rolling magnet to pick up all the nails. Chris came back the next day after the dumpster was removed to again do a magnet sweep of the driveway. Did you know, Chris is also a great carpenter! This year he was back for another big job and some smaller yet tedious jobs. It was a big job as we have a large multi family house. He replaced the house numbers, and also did some paint touch up. The guys they sent to do the demo work were unqualified and made a mess of my yard and the drip edge of my roof issue mangled in many places (Chris said it would be straightened then just hid it behind the gutters). Luckily the roofing crew finished the work they started, but it still didn't come out great. I've got multiple gaps that have formed around the fascia boards and gutters that are all messed up now, with water getting behind them in multiple places. There are wasps currently building nests in the gaps they left. I've called, texted and sent messages to Chris (the owner) through Yelp and he hasn't responded once and apparently doesn't stand behind his work. They also found a roof issue while they were doing the fascia boards that required them to remove a section of the roof and repair it, and while I haven't noticed any issues with it yet I'm nervous about the quality of it after seeing how the fascia boards turned out. They were supposed to replace the soffit reveal where they replaced the roof but never did, and I found a piece where they were supposed to install pvc fascia material is actually just a piece of tin cut to that shape. The soffit reveals all around the house are also uneven in a lot of places. I ended up having to buy a roofing magnet to pick up the hundreds of nails they left behind in my yard. I tried to give Chris the opportunity to make this right, but he won't answer or return any of my calls or messages. I would not recommend using Oakwood Roofing.
