Unfortunately, the person behind the counter, and our server, did not speak any English...and we didn't speak German. And the menu was in German. So we really struggled to order our breakfast. But they were friendly, and we did manage to order something that we were okay with. However, in hind sight, we should have just stood at the counter and pointed to something in the display case to get the pastry or egg dish we wanted. Oh well, maybe next time!

The display of chocolates was easy on the eyes and called to the chocolate lover within. The saleswoman introduced us to Lackerli, a kind of shortbread style cookie, but soft like a brownie. Only available in Basel, it make the trip back to the U.S.A. to be shared with friends. There was a great deal of construction going on right outside the door and we had to return because when we found it, it was closed, however, during the day we missed it the first time we walked past. I first visited one of their stores in Zurich, on guess where? Bahnhofstraße, of course. Clearly the company knows what travelers want for their journey. This store is very similar to that one in setup. But no matter how much you spend here, it never seems enough when the chocolate is gone. And now four weeks after my visit to this store, I'm lamenting my short sightedness. Yes, they're that delicious! Incredible really. According to the company... Definitely felt the joy of a kid in a candy shop - this place is a feast for the eyes! Hard to decide/restrain myself on what to buy, so we opted to try one of their specialty truffles. The chocolate was smooth with nice infused flavor, definitely a specialty experience. Price point is a bit higher to match the quality and specialty of the shop.
