Based on my experience, I would not recommend this office. When I arrived early for my first appointment, there was only one employee in the entire building, serving as both receptionist and dentist, which led to me being seen about 40 minutes late, with no apology for the delay. The exam and initial cleaning felt rushed despite my having many serious oral health concerns. What bothered me most was that when I tried to ask basic questions during the exam, the dentist cut me off, said she was running into her lunch break to see me, and essentially suggested that because I had so many issues, she didn't have time to go through and explain any of them. The actual dentistry was fairly rough and the cleaning was certainly not thorough. I was checked out with little explanation of next steps. As someone already insecure about my teeth and finally taking steps to address them, I left feeling belittled and unfairly blamed for the delay. Short staffing may have been a factor, but that does not justify guilt tripping a first time patient for just existing lol. Overall, the experience felt extremely unprofessional and discouraging. Honestly, I don't know who keeps giving this dentist good reviews but they're likely paid reviews. I haven't been here for a few years and I'm glad I left. As others have said, this dentist especially Dr. Yip is quite the bi*ch -- always late and extremely rude, belittles and gaslights you as if you did something wrong even though you had to wait 30-40 minutes for her to get her shit together. I've been with Dr. Yip (and also Dr. Lee) for over 4 years now, and have always had such a wonderful experience with both of these providers! Dr. Yip in particular has truly been a gem throughout the extensive dental work that I've had done over the years (crowns, fillings, root canals, etc.). She and Dr. Lee have been the most compassionate and knowledgable dental providers that I have ever had. It's very obvious to me that they both care deeply about their patients, and go the extra step to tailor treatment plans to their patients' goals. If you're looking for skilled dental providers who focuses on patient education, this is the place to go! I'm unfortunately moving out of the area, but I'll miss the both of them dearly. Dr Yip is a very honest and trustable dentist. She definitely does a good job. I think out of all my years of going to a multitude of dentists, she provided the most in depth cleaning. She has a lot of cool and interesting equipment/gadgets like devices I haven't seen at other offices. She's very transparent as to what's going on and guides you to what she's doing/what needs to be done. She is very efficient in her work. The office is extremely clean and organized! I've been going to ConfiDental Smile for over a year now. They took care of me very well and has always been very transparent. After switching from a different office, ConfiDental definitely has more tools and more tech to keep up with their patient's history and make sure that they are taken care of with each visit. They've been giving me small tips every time I come in for a cleaning, and I've been able to slowly develop better dental hygiene habits. My teeth feels cleaner and healthier than ever. They are also very gentle when cleaning my teeth. I always hated getting my teeth cleaned because it would hurt so much, but after my first visit and realizing that teeth cleaning does not need to hurt, I'm not dreading my next visit anymore. They've also changed up their process during COVID. Patients will need to sanitize their hands when they come in, temperature is checked, PPE is worn and no aerosol during cleaning. If they do need to do anything that may require equipment that produce aerosol, a negative COVID test is required. These process changes makes me feel safe when seeing the dentist. They are also asking patients to donate $15 if they can since they have less business and have to invest in the process changes. Please donate if you can! :D read more

I rarely write online reviews because it is not easy to know for sure if you can trust it. I want to share my experience to help the others make an informed decision in choosing this dental office. I chose Dr. Yip at ConfiDental Smile mainly because the location and it is at my insurance's network. I was unsure how the service is first. I figured I will choose another dentist if it does not work out for me. The office is not located at the best neighborhood in San Francisco, but I believe it is safe in the daytime. I found Dr. Yip very knowledge and professional. It is easy to make an appointment. The equipment is newer than my previous dental office. I found that she's honest about the condition of my dental health and how I could make the teeth last longer. I am very satisfied with the services I received in 2 months. I saw one of the reviews about 10 new fillings. I guess the procedure may refer to using composite fillings for receding gums. I read that mild gum recession may not requirement treatment, but some patients can be benefited from the repairing of exposed roots. Basically, it may reduce the chance food will stuck between the gum and roots. Maybe it is more for cosmetic reason. Dr. Yip also handles the insurance paper work, which is understandable as a lot of dental/medical offices could not hire extra assistants to do the work. During the appointment Window, sometimes Dr. Yip needs to answer a call or delay start of the appointment. This is common in any medical / dental office. Dentists often work on a few patients at the similar scheduled Window. Sometimes dental procedures take longer than planned because it requires precision. I don't have issue with the actual work started like 20-30 minutes late. It is better to get things done right than in a hurry. I found Dr. Yip trustworthy and skillful. But even after I moved away from San Francisco I still kept going because the professionalism and service of both Dr. Lee and Dr. Yip is unparalleled! I have seen both Dr. Lee and Dr. Yip and they are both extremely personable and kind. They somehow manage to make dental visits something that I would look forward to! I visited this practice 4 years ago, shortly after moving to San Francisco. I think this practice may have recently opened at the time. I have had good dental health throughout my entire life, with only 1 new filling in the past 20 years. After taking some x-rays and doing an exam, Dr Yip told me that she wanted to give me 10 new fillings! It was the craziest thing I've ever heard, especially given my healthy history and regular cleanings. I told her no thanks, I need to get some other opinions. I then went to 3 other dentists to get additional opinions, using the same images from Dr Yip, as well as new images taken at the other dentists. None of the other dentists shared Dr Yip's diagnosis. I eventually settled on an experienced, conservative dentist who does not jump to drill holes in my mouth. 4 years later, and I still have great dental health, no pain or any issues, and without all of the unnecessary fillings. I believe Dr Yip tried to look for opportunities to upsell me on unnecessary services so she can charge more money. This also happened elsewhere on the bill, where she was able to charge the insurance company some amounts for explaining to me the basics of how to brush my teeth, as if I don't know. Unfortunately, when it comes to upselling on unnecessary dental fillings, you are actually causing your patient harm by drilling into otherwise healthy teeth! I am glad that I dodged a bullet with this shady dentist by doing some additional due diligence, and avoided getting my healthy mouth ruined. However, the additional research and dental opinions were costly to me in time and money. I saw lots of positive reviews on here and that's why I visited this practice, but I had a very negative experience. This dentist is more interested in making money than in the best interest of her patients. You can't trust someone like that, especially not with your health. I think many of the positive experiences on here may be from people blindly trusting a Doctor who takes time to explain things in detail, even though this person may not ultimately have the best intentions in serving your long-term health. read more

The five start reviews and the fact that she was in network brought me to this disaster. Went in towards the end of the pandemic to get a cleaning was told that I needed a root canal and crown. The cleaning was not a great experience that is where I should of ended. She did not have extra help around the office or during any of my procedure. She had a hard time getting the mold correctly and forcibly made the crown fit. I spitted a piece of my tooth and clean myself towards the end. I been in discomfort for almost two years and today my new dentist told me that I will need a new crown. You can clearly tell that the reason I been in discomfort all this time is because of her poor work(the X-rays don't lie). She will try to sale you everything and anything. I bought the toothbrush that was trash and her extra cleaning service which is a just minty toothpaste. She will also rush so she can to her next client leaving you with a confused look. Found Dr Yip via yelp and I am so happy with her! After moving to SF from NYC, it was hard for me to finally switch over to local practitioners. Dr Yip was so friendly and really caring. She went through each of my x rays and took pictures of my teeth. She explained the work that I needed to have done and was super efficient. In fact, the 2nd time I went to her for fillings, she had me in and out in less than 45 min. Her staff are all wonderful too. I found Dr.Yip through my insurance and am very glad I did. She didn't make me feel guilty about how I had treated my teeth in the past, instead explaining what could happen and why, and leaving it to me on whether I want to act on that info. That is surprisingly rare in a dentist. She first gave me a cleaning then said I should come back for a deep cleaning with anesthesia. As we were wrapping up I asked if it would be possible to just get the cleaning out of the way now and forgo the anesthesia -- at first she was hesitant, but found time to squeeze in the extra cleaning. That saved me another appt. which I was grateful for. She was also very transparent throughout the process, explaining that I would have to pay a little out of pocket for the deep cleaning, and stopping what she was doing to answer all of my questions and concerns. read more

Although it's tucked away in the Tenderloin district of SF, this is a top-notch dental clinic. There is a buzzer that you have to ring to enter. I arrived 15 mins before my first appointment to fill out some paperwork and the dental assistant walked me in immediately after--I didn't have to wait long at all. Dr. Michael Lee gave my teeth a deep clean and was extremely professional and thorough. I got to see scans of my teeth and Dr. Lee explained that I had areas of buildup. After the deep clean, Dr. Lee gave me some tips to prevent the buildup. I usually don't like visiting the dentist, but I had a very good experience here and learned a lot about how to maintain the health of my teeth. read more

Dr. Yip and her entire staff are amazing! Super clean facility, all staff are very personable and the service is impeccable. Dr. Yip is very understanding and adjusts all of your procedures to what works for you financially, physically & emotionally (we all know how tough dentist appointments can be!). I've definitely seen dentists that will reprimand you and basically make you feel like you're the worst for not going regularly. Carolyn sets the tone by being super friendly and thorough with all of the paperwork, insurance, etc. while engaging in some great conversations. One time, she even squeezed in multiple fillings (that were supposed to take place in 2 sessions) into 1 session to accommodate my work schedule. Doctor Yip is a great dentist who is very patient and truly cares for her patient! I started visiting her last year and had 10 teeth fixed at her place. The service is always great, and I especially appreciate how I can get early morning appointments(~8am) and finish before work starts. What pushed me to write this review, however, is how helpful she is at this time of pandemic. Recently, her office has been closed for non-urgent appointments due to stay-at-home order, but when I called her and mentioned that the filling for one of my teeth had fallen off and caused some pain, she let me keep the appointment for this Thursday. She followed a very strict protocol for seeing patients at this time: I came in with masks, while she wore a complete PPE set covering her whole body and took my temperature as soon as I got in. There is a waiting period between patients for cleanup and each patient has to rinse their mouth with Hydrogen Peroxide for one minute. I'm a little ashamed to admit that I am normally not a fan of going to the dentist. I generally tried to go as little as possible in college which surprise surprise, led me to have some teeth issues a couple of years later. BUT this has all changed with Dr. Yip!
