Coney with sauce and easy onion.

It was good. This was our first time. We bother ordered the same thing: Combo #1: Coney, Soup and Drink The soup was Chicken Noodle and it was really good. We both upgraded our drinks to a Butterscotch Shake. These were good as well. As for the Coneys, there were good. Not amazing - just good. I'd like to try their fires. We'd come back.

You can never have a bad meal here. Everything is fantastic, from the coneys to the gyros. Service is fast and the atmosphere is like nowhere else, with what is most likely original booths, tables, and chairs. Coney Island is a gem in downtown Duluth; don't miss out!

Old-school diner food right here. For some reason, a good hot dog is just as appealing to me as a nice steak. Call me a savage, but the dogs here I could eat all day long. You'll be taking a step back through time when you come in, getting excellent, homemade recipes for a very decent price. Dogs not your thing, maybe a chili burger/fries are up your alley. Either way, it would be near blasphemy not to try their coney sauce on something you won't want to stop inhaling long after your belt is ready to burst. Duluth is a lot of things, but in my opinion, it's a better place because of this establishment. It's longevity tends to verify the sentiment.

Always the best. No contest. If you're a coney island style hot dog fan, you need to make the trek to Duluth, Minnesota to try the best. "Secret lingo", walk up to the counter, and say "three with" (for here or to go).

The coney sauce I could eat by the pint (do they sell that separately???) and covers the dog perfectly end to end.

Ok, so this is 2 different review ratings. Take into consideration we arrived just after a huge…read morerush (possibly bus) of people. We sat at the end of the bar in front of the glass wash station. Our waitress was pleasant despite. She checked in with us a few times during our meal. The prices are comperable to other similar establishments but I feel the portions here make it one step above. The wings are the huge sized wings if you like those. The curly fries (for the 2nd time) were overcooked and crunchy. They have 1919 root beer on it's own tap! It was fun to just look around at the decor and play "I Spy". The restrooms were pleasant. Now, the part I hope the owner reads. There was a busboy, whom I feel may be family, "working" there. I surmised this because if I were one of those waitresses, I'd have had some WORDS long ago. I can honestly say this young man is probably costing you way more money than having him there, unless your sole reason is to keep him out of trouble...even so. He was very obviously working harder at not working than actually doing so. I feel like this is a very common example of our youth as a whole right now. He literally, for our ENTIRE stay (which took double the time as any usual meal does due to the kitchen being so slow) basically shuffled in front of us getting in the way of every waitress trying to do their job. He opened the coolers repeatedly turning labels, looking like he was checking stock, etc. I'm certain the bottles ended up being 4 degrees warmer, especially when he left the doors cracked open. Waitresses were carrying LOADS of dishes to the back and only occasionally, when he noticed, would he go back to the kitchen only to emerge right back in front of us. He seemed to like washing glasses though. Just one or two he'd slowly concentrate on them spending as much time as possible. Nothing like someone's face constantly inches from your food. Another time after coming from the back, he switched the big screen from football to car racing, which was also on the smaller TV. People were mildly watching the game. They had to ask a waitress to switch it back. When we were finished with our meals, we neatly stacked the tray/basket/silverware with the napkins on top, clearly indicating they were ready to be taken, at the edge of the bar, pretty much right under his nose as he washed glasses. Nope, the lightbulb didn't go on. A waitress came and took mine away. My Mom finished hers later and did the same. Still he didn't get a clue. I could see the frustration on the other's faces. I was exhausted just watching him do absolutely nothing. PLEASE teach this young man manners, consideration, work ethic, and teamwork. If he plans to go into management of any kind, nevermind, carry on. At the very least, find someplace else for him to be and alleviate the frustration for those employees who ARE trying to do their jobs. On the flip side, if I were to give the benefit of the doubt, perhaps he was doing his intended job of monitoring other employees to ensure everything is on the up and up and to report back. In any case, this seems to be going more into a rant than a review of the establishment. Love Gronk's in general and look forward for an opportunity to stop in when I'm in town. Don't miss out!

Comes a time in many men's lives when they hears the call of the old home town, and feel the…read morepassion of his ancestors start to well up inside him. Thus began the latest chapter in the life of Ed Carmody, born in Duluth, world traveler, grandson of some former scions of the early hospitality industry in Duluth. Ed's Irish immigrant grandparents built a mini-empire in Duluth in the late 1800s, starting a restaurant, acquiring hotels, and being a part of People's Brewing Co. a rather long-lived post prohibition beer company that lasted until 1957. Ed's genetic ambitions led him to create Carmody Irish Pub in Duluth, five years ago, add a Northshore branch, Carmody 61, and finally to add micro-brewing capability on site. Carmody's, at 308 East Superior Street in the heart of the "new" old downtown, opens daily at 3PM, has live music six nights a week, with 32 beers and 21 Irish whiskeys on hand in addition to his own micro-brews. Demand for the latter is causing him to double brewing output capacity this year. A believer in supporting local businesses as well as the locavore movement, Ed sources as much product locally as he is able to, and estimates that over 80% of the food products come from establishments within an hour of the Twin Ports. Carmody's food offerings include their takes on traditional bar food, with the addition of some Chicago favorites (one of Ed's major life stopping points), as well as an homage or two to Irish / UK specialties. Chicago style dishes include the "Maxwell Street Chicago Dog," dressed as one would find at hundreds of Chicago eateries, with mustard, cucumber, relish, peppers, tomato, and a dash of celery salt. Another Chicago legend on the menu is the Italian Beef sandwich, thin sliced roast beef slowly marinaded in a flavorful au jus, served on a fresh bakery roll and topped with mild or spicy giardiniera. Beef for the sandwich is sourced from Fraboni's on the range, and cooked at Carmody 61, which enjoys a larger kitchen and prep area than the Duluth outlet. A tribute to the cuisine of the UK and Ireland can be found in the bangers and mash, and his version of the Cornish pasty. If you're not familiar with the pasty, its a crimped, baked meat and vegetable pie, popularized by miners from the British Isles and Eastern Europe, who settled in the mining communities of Northern Michigan and Minnesota. The hand-held pie provided hearty fare for miner lunches. Ed says his version of the pasty has "Slavic" influences, rather than Cornish or Finnish. The pasty has become widely associated with the Finnish culture in Minnesota. Sausages at Carmody's are made from Ed's secret family recipes, built to the pub's specifications at Wrazidlo's Old World Meats in Duluth. Bread and rolls are an exclusive Carmody recipe baked by Duluth's Johnson's Bakery. Additional menu items include starters, sandwiches, wraps, pizza with some vegetarian friendly choices. The menu at the Two Harbors branch has different menu choices, including entrees and burgers. Taste experiences this visit included the pretzel appetizer with house made mustard, Italian Beef sandwich, and bangers with garlic mash. All were excellent. We look forward to grazing our way through the rest of the menu in the near future.
