I have to say that this little gem is hidden in the corner of it's shopping plaza and is a must visit. The owners are great and very personable. We had great service and great food. We got some soup before we left and it's probably the best beef noodle soup I've had. I highly recommend stopping by and enjoying a dog or two. The slaw dog and Reuben dog were a smash hit and I can't wait to try some of the others soon. read more

In 2025, Coney Express was recognized on the Bravo show, America's Best Restaurants. It makes sense too! This Mishawaka, Indiana staple has been around and family-owned since 1972. Located only a mile from my new Indiana home, my partner and I had a filling lunch here on a busy Saturday afternoon in September 2026. The decor is the opposite of minimal - there's a LOT of hockey memorabilia all around. My partner has eaten here a few times before while this was my first visit. I had a fun time looking around while we waited for our food. We ordered: 2 Coney Specials, 1 Sonoran dog, 1 Nashville Hot Dog, 1 order of onion rings, 1 order of french fries, and 1 Coke Zero. It cost about $37. It was delivered to our table after about 5ish minutes by a very friendly server. The fries were good but basic but my boyfriend loved their large onion rings. The coney special dogs are tasty and worth it but boyfriend said he wouldn't order the expensive Sonoran dog again. Was it the best food I have ever had? Absolutely not. But was it made with love from a dedicated staff and also very locally owned? Yes! I will happily add Coney Express to the list of restaurants I'll continue to visit from time to time. read more

Ok, it's hot dogs, mostly, I get it. They also have good soups. Price is right, food is tasty. Every fry order is cooked per order so you always get hot fresh fries, I appreciate that. Owners are always friendly and kind. This is a staple for my son and I who visit about once a week. If you like hot dogs, best in the city read more

The atmosphere is fun and nostalgic. Spent quite awhile looking at all the treasures. The service was excellent! Tracy was so kind, helpful, and patient with our questions and indecision. The food was fantastic! You must try the Greek Fries! Thank you for a wonderful experience! read more

The food was awesome. The service was great. I definitely enjoyed the food. Relaxing and family welcoming.

Food is always good. They never disappoint when you need good soup and a sandwich. Very friendly service.

Excellent food, excellent service, excellent employees. I used to come in here quite a bit with best friend but stopped coming here after he died. Came in here the other day and it's just like time stood still.......excellent food, excellent service, excellent service and fast and friendly. Good variety of food on menu and still packed at noon. This is one thing that never changes. Don't hesitate to stop in and explore the different options on the menu. read more

Delicious food and great service! A real treasure on Grape Road. If you like Coney dogs...this is the place to go.

Dude what a diamond of a business!! I walked in for the first time and was greeted kindly and told about their specials. The place is so cute! I love the diner feeling. I'll be bringing my family here for sure. I ordered two dogs and some soup. They had it out to me in under 5 minutes despite the lunch rush. They even threw in an extra soup as a BOGO just because. Now the taste of the food? Absolutely amazing. I'm stuffed and still craving another coney dog. So So good. Definitely recommend and will probably be back in less than a week. read more

This is my families favorite lunch spots. Food is always consistently delicious. Some of the best soups on the planet. This is a family owned restaurant and they welcome you like family. read more

I've walked past this place 20 times...finally walked by while I was hungry and decided to give it a try...glad I did. Not all hotdogs or businesses serving them are created equal. The best way for me to tell you if it's good is to run a simple dog with mustard. The bun was soft and fresh, the mustard was on par and the dog was absolutely fantastic! Wish I could share a picture, but I ate it too fast. A half order of fries (Kringle fries cooked to perfection )was more than enough and they have free refills on Coke products....Coke is the only worthwhile soda...so thank you for not serving Pepsi. Very friendly service, family owned restaurant, you can't go wrong! I'll be back and if your contemplating coming by...make sure you do. It doesn't always look open from the parking lot...and that's its biggest downfall...it always looks like it's closed...but stop in, say hello and enjoy a great hotdog!! read more

The best coneys around! Try the Coney special, Coney sauce with extra seasoned ground beef, with light onions, the BEST! read more

We stopped in Coney Express for the first time the other day for lunch. We had checked out the new location of Waka Dog last week and thought it would be good to make a comparison since we've heard good things about Coney Express. We stopped in around noon on Monday for lunch and it was crowded. You order at the counter and there was a line, which gave us a couple minutes to review the menu. I'm a fan of Chicago dogs, but it didn't look like it was a true, authentic one so my husband and I both decided to try their signature Coney dogs (2 for my husband and one for me). We ordered a side of chili cheese fries and a cup of the cream of broccoli soup. You have the option of a regular dog or upgraded all beef version. We went for the all beef, which was slightly more expensive. Everyone raves about their homemade soups and they day we were there, they had cream of broccoli, cream of mushroom, ham and bean, chicken and rice along with their everyday chili. The soups are definitely popular - it seemed like almost everyone ordered some. We placed our order (around $17 for three hot dogs, chili cheese fries, a cup of soup and two drinks). After ordering, we got our drinks and found a booth. The place definitely needs to work on their ventilation as the entire place smelled like a fryer. It took awhile for our food to come out, which was surprising since it was hot dogs and fries. The all beef hot dogs were good and the buns were nicely steamed. The coney sauce was pretty good. The chili cheese fries were smothered in chili and cheese sauce. The chili had good flavor and a nice little kick. I enjoyed the soup and will go back to try some of the others. Next time I will have to try the Chicago dog to see how it stacks up against Waka Dog. read more

Every single soup is 5 star and the coney dogs are consistently amazing! Great local restaurant with great owners!!

This place has off the wall soups at lunchtime. Their Clam Chowder is as good as anything visiting Cape Cod! Kudos to the Soup Nazi

This place is just consistently good. It's not great food but service is always solid and it's cheap. This is a great go to spot!

If you want a hotdog that is the girth of your pinky finger, would like to wait a long time for the food, want to pay 15.00 for two people (one without a drink) and want to sit in a place that is not too caring about cleaning up any other tables....this is your place. Overpriced for sure. Dirty. Literally three open tables that did not have trash on the table, waiting to be cleaned up. The people working there were visiting with others, sitting in the booth in the place while one gal worked the counter. Cleaning and clearing tables was not a priority at all. Grab a pack of dogs at the store, a pack of buns and make your own at home. The special for Tuesday is 99 cent dogs. read more

This is a trip down memory lane, since I will not be able to visit for awhile. However, since I've been frequenting this restaurant for almost 20 years, I can tell you exactly how good it is. I'm sure there are healthy options on their menu, but that is not what I come here for...unless you are 1 gram of fat away from a heart attack, try their coney dog with cheese and onions and especially their chili cheese fries. In fact, if you don't like hot dogs, just order two baskets of the fries. Their chili cheese fries are the ones which you will then judge all others by. The chili they make has won awards. It is the perfect meat-based no-bean chili to put on, well, anything but cake. The cheese sauce in no way resembles the cheez whiz variety that you normally find. Their fries are fresh-fried to order and crinkle-cut. The hot dogs are never overdone, and they put just the right amount of toppings on them. The bun-to-dog ratio is spot-on. This is a guilty pleasure to be enjoyed when you have enough time to sit down and enjoy it. Even though their food is so tasty that service is a moot point, it is worth mentioning that in 20 years I have NEVER had unfriendly, rude, or otherwise awful service. In fact, even if it's someone who does not know my undying love and devotion to their food, I'm treated in a friendly-but-not-overly-so manner. In fact, when I lived in Mishawaka for a few years, I was MOST excited about being so close to this place. And that excitement didn't fade when I left. I'm still on a mission to find a restaurant in Indy that has knock-your-socks-off chili cheese fries, but nothing yet even comes close to this. An absolute must-have for lunch if you ever find yourself in Mishawaka. read more

A hot dog is a hot dog- but at least these are good hot dogs-I've had bad. I emphasised the fries in this shot because they are GOOOOOD! Old fashioned (classic?) cottage-cut fries made fresh with no "coating", "seasoning", "batter"or artificial crisper chemicals. A good place for lunch. read more

Coney Express - Good Dogs and Fries!! - Hot Dogs Near Me - Mishawaka, Indiana

I really enjoyed the food at Coney Express.I recommend it to everyone I give it 4 1/2 stars

We have been taking the kids here for years. The foods is always good..we get either chilli dogs or chicago style dogs. Fries are crinkle cut, soups are usually great and it is mostly self service, but they deliver your food to your table. They do a very busy lunch so be prepared to wait a minute or two to get your order in. They do have a lunch counter ...which is kind of nice. Not many mom and pop diners even have a dining counter anymore. Its not terribly expensive, definitely less expensive than Waka dog. read more

Boyfriend used to live in the area, and now we visit. This place is an absolute must every time we do! Went a few months ago with Boyfriend and Boyfriend's parents. We love it. The coney dogs are great, but truly the thing I dream about, almost weekly, is their cream of mushroom soup. I don't know what makes it so darn special. But it's amazing. In fact, all of the soups I have tried there are great, but cream o' shroom makes me melt. The service is fast and friendly, the place is small and usually busy, but well-maintained. The gentleman who busses the tables, specifically, is great and apparently has been there for ages and a day. Prices are beyond reasonable. Love this place and can't wait to go back. read more

All I could say is this place has the best hot dogs. If you looking for a great hot dog joint. Go here! They have a great menu of food! Like burgers, hot dogs, really delicious fries, and more! This place has a lot of Detroit Red Wing decor (not lying. There's lot's of it!). "This place has DELICIOUS hot dogs and french fries... I'm coming back." read more

Coney Express - The entrance of coney express - Hot Dogs Near Me - Mishawaka, Indiana

I love little "hole in the wall" places, so finding good ones around town in a real treat, especially when it comes to burgers and hotdogs. There's nothing like sitting down to simple entrees that made well and by people you can tell love their job. The menu is pretty simple, but they give you a lot of options in terms of toppings so you get exactly what you want. The service is fast, the atmosphere is cozy, and the price is right. Takes about 5-7 mins on average for us to get our meal. Burgers are juicy and full of flavor, hotdogs are browned just right with plenty of toppings, and the fries are fairly decent crinkle-cuts that go perfectly with some ketchup or chili. If you're looking for something cheap, laid back, but still delicious, Coney Express is the spot to go. read more

Good, down-to-earth, ma-and-pa hot dog joint. No one will ever call it gourmet, but hey, it's a hot dog restaurant. Foot long coney dog with chili, cheese, and onions - trust me. I'd go 5 stars, but I got the mozzerella triangles appetizer - lose a star for the mcdonalds-style prepackaged marinara sauce. Tacky. read more

Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. 8/3/2016. Came here today for lunch with my 3 grandsons ages 10,11 and 12. It was my first time eating here. The counter guy helped me with ordering. When I ordered 4 fries he was nice enough to tell me the portions were large and 2 orders would be good for us. The fries were good and the coney dogs were great. The mistakenly made an extra coney dog and gave it to us. No charge. I mean there were enough people in line ordering the could have served it to someone else but gave it to us free. I would definitely go back there. They are kid and grandma friendly. I got 3 hot dogs, 2 coney ( that I paid for) 2 orders of fries and 4 small drinks for a little under $20.00. Please don't review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you're connected in any way to the owner or employees. read more

Amazing food and selection. Don't got anywhere else for your hot dog cravings!! The people who work here are all kind and quick! And it's family owned! Check them out! read more

Have been going for lunch occasionally for years with my wife. Always have enjoyed it, until yesterday. It has new ownership and not much has changed, the food is still good. But one of the I'm assuming family members had their two small children there for I'm guessing for the day. All they did was run around and scream and yell and made it very unpleasant to try to enjoy a lunch conversation. Since it's turned into a day care we won't be going back anytime soon. read more

One of the best places to get chili cheese dogs in Mishawaka. My friend and I go there every week during lunch. Every single time the service has been fast and friendly. The French fries have always been good and the coney sauce is delicious! This has become one of my favorite lunch spots! read more

Most basic hot dog I have ever had and it was $15 for two people. Hot dog places usually have something that makes their dogs unique. Not here. Ownership doesn't seem to have much vision. I suppose there are people that don't mind paying that much for something so underwhelming, but I expected more based on all the free-meal-inspired 5 star reviews. read more

I drove all the from Tampa for this! Well not really, but this was the first place I returned to when I got back into town. The soups are made from scratch every morning and delicious! The coney dogs are PERFECT! I've been around for 20 years as well, eaten at the original location, with the original owners. Literally, grew up infont of them, and I do miss them. However, the new owners hit the ground running keeping the original recipes and deserve 5 stars. read more

I've been going here since the early 90's even when it was at it old location across town. It's a no drill hot dog place and has great consistency! This place is a favorite of my "lunch bunch". The homemade soups are really tasty and comforting, there is a different selection every day. I work around the corner and would love to love this place but everything is average. I could heat up a hotdog of my own. I tired to give the place a chance more than once but the fries are nothing memorable and as a huge Chicago dog fan...jalapenos are not the same as pepperoncini's :/ read more

I came for lunch because I had a craving for a good Chicago style dog. I'm new to Mishawaka and thought I'd try it out. My favorite Chicago dogs are from The Hot Dog Cart that's been in down town St Joe Michigan every summer for over 20 years. The Hot Dog Carts Chicago style dogs are Vienna beef, diced onions, a great relish, tomato slices, small jalapeno peppers, celery salt, mustard, on a steamed poppyseed bun. They are delicious and maybe one of my favorite foods. That's what I was looking for when I came to Coney express. I ordered two Chicago style dogs with fries and a Diet Coke that cost me about $11 including tax. Coney express Chicago style dog was your choice of regular hot dog or beef hot dog. It came served on a steamed regular hot dog bun, diced onions and tomatoes and sliced jalapeno peppers and sliced hamburger pickles. They came served in a wicker basket with crinkle cut fries. I was disappointed by the sliced hamburger pickles and the regular steamed bun. in my opinion it wasn't a authentic Chicago style hot dog , at least not what I was looking for. The service was great the place was clean and there seem to be a lot of people coming in just for the soup so maybe I'll try that some time. read more
