I found Complete Paving & Masonry on Yelp, and reached out; Jerry responded very quickly and was able to come by to provide a visual inspection and a quote. He recommended that work needs to be done on the outside in order to fix the inside. We took a walk around the outside and he provided points of what work needed to be done. Essentially, he recommended to dig up the dirt around the foundation; patch and seal the foundation; put in some gravel and then cover it up with dirt. This would help prevent water from leaking through the foundation into the basement/garage. After conversing with my fellow condo neighbor, we hired Jerry's team to do the work. Within a week, they were able to come on site and start the work. It took them 4 days to do the work (original quote was 3-5 days). Jerry and his team did a magnificent job. They went above and beyond the original estimate's work at no extra charge to improve the water flow surrounding the condo. They also did some additional patch work on the outside of the condo. When the job was completed, Jerry walked me through everything his team did and why it was done, so I was able to understand the reason for the work. Jerry is friendly, honest, and provides top notch service. I highly recommend his team for any mason work.

The gentleman showed up when he said he would, which was great that I didn't have to waster 2 hours in traffic for nothing. However, the oddness ensued quickly. Every time I showed him a part of the basement, he'd say "Great. I'll take a look and find you if I have any questions" but his "inspections" would only take 2 minutes. So, we'd walk to the next part of the basement, he'd say he'd let me know when he was done, then I'd wait a minute or two and then proceed to the next section. (I swear I'm not making this up.) It was really odd. After his inspection, I said "what do you think?" He said they don't really do much with fieldstone foundations (which would have been very beneficial to tell me over the phone) but that he was going to talk with his boss and that I shouldn't worry because they wouldn't "leave me high and dry" (no pun intended.) He then excused himself once again to call someone and then a few minutes later comes back to tell me there isn't really anything they can do and we should contact someone who specializes in fieldstone foundation repair and then leaves. Well, that's pretty much what I've been experiencing in my home for years after heavy rainfall. Water would leak in my basement from many areas, putting a lot of strain on my tiny sump pump, wetting pretty much everything in sight and leaving that section of the basement difficult to utilize. The Strongmen Waterproofers work very well together, are extremely focused and knowledgeable in their trade (it's evident), attentive to detail, explain the process and products used in the installation of a perimeter drain system. Every worker on this project was punctual (as a matter of fact arrived early), personable, and introduced themselves to me before proceeding to the basement to start work. There wasn't as much noise as I was anticipating with the installation of the perimeter drain; the workers were extremely neat and conscientious about working around my property. My project was projected to take 3 days, it actually took one day and a half. It was very thoughtful of one of the workers to return to my home on a Sunday just to reconnect the washer and dryer that was disconnected and moved during the perimeter drain installation. Another instance, the owner was observed picking up small pieces of debris left in the yard, but because of the size of the debris, and the workers were so neat, it was not necessary. The outside portion of the project went just as smoothly as the inside. The grass was returned to the same trenched place it was removed. From start to finish this project went on like clockwork, the workers didn't even stop for lunch; I hope they had a big breakfast. Strongmen Waterproofing also removes and disposes of junk, which I had my share. I highly recommend Strongmen Waterproofing as their fees are reasonable, they get the job done efficiently, timely, neatly, and it's evident they enjoy what they're doing. The guys they sent to do the demo work were unqualified and made a mess of my yard and the drip edge of my roof issue mangled in many places (Chris said it would be straightened then just hid it behind the gutters). Luckily the roofing crew finished the work they started, but it still didn't come out great. I've got multiple gaps that have formed around the fascia boards and gutters that are all messed up now, with water getting behind them in multiple places. There are wasps currently building nests in the gaps they left. I've called, texted and sent messages to Chris (the owner) through Yelp and he hasn't responded once and apparently doesn't stand behind his work. They also found a roof issue while they were doing the fascia boards that required them to remove a section of the roof and repair it, and while I haven't noticed any issues with it yet I'm nervous about the quality of it after seeing how the fascia boards turned out. They were supposed to replace the soffit reveal where they replaced the roof but never did, and I found a piece where they were supposed to install pvc fascia material is actually just a piece of tin cut to that shape. The soffit reveals all around the house are also uneven in a lot of places. I ended up having to buy a roofing magnet to pick up the hundreds of nails they left behind in my yard. I tried to give Chris the opportunity to make this right, but he won't answer or return any of my calls or messages. I would not recommend using Oakwood Roofing.

My positive experience with the first home in Quincy, more than 15 years ago, was so professional and positive that I didn't need to repeat all the research I had previously done. My 1st home didn't have a pump previously, but water came into my basement and I panicked. I never worried about it again. My new home in Rockland already had an antiquated pump without a battery back up. What good is a pump if the power goes out and you don't have a back up? Plus the outflow piping was not freeze proof and was just a flexible hose. The replacement pump is in, as well as the dehumidifier/air cleaner which feeds right into the pump. It doesn't look at all like anyone was here working today. They called to confirm the day before, they called when they were on the way, they showed up and did an outstanding job. I can't even see where the lawn was dug up to bury the out flow pvc pipes. I'm beyond impressed and finally feel secure about moving furniture into my finished basement.

Worst Contractor Experience Ever - Avoid DryZone Basement Systems / All Things Basementy…read more I had the single most egregious contractor experience of my life with DryZone Basement Systems (the local All Things Basementy provider) on my Massachusetts property. I hired them to clean out my crawlspace, which had an older vapor barrier, and upgrade it to a new vapor barrier system. Their sales pitch and materials specifically promised that the space would be thoroughly cleaned before any new material was installed. On the first day the crew began laying the new vapor barrier directly over the existing dirt, debris, and old vapor barrier without cleaning anything. I immediately stopped the project and contacted management to request a different crew that would actually do the job properly. Management promised they would send a project manager and that he would be on site the whole day on day two while the crew cleaned. What actually happened is that the project manager was only there for about 20 minutes. While the crew was supposedly cleaning out the old material, they only cleaned a small section and then covered up all the remaining old debris and old vapor barrier with the new material -- doing exactly what I had already complained about on day one and had been assured would not happen. To make matters worse, the crew spray-foamed rodent bait stations directly into the side of my house. It was obvious this was done deliberately and in a retaliatory, vindictive manner after I had complained and stopped their work. At that point I fired them. I lost my entire $6,000 deposit and had to hire another crew to rip out everything they had done. The cost to remove their improper work and start over was more than the original contract amount. I ultimately had the crawlspace properly cleaned and the vapor barrier upgrade completed correctly through the Mass Save program. This company showed zero respect for the homeowner's instructions, broke their promises about oversight, and acted dishonestly even after management got involved. I told them in no uncertain terms that they would never be allowed back on my property again. Strong recommendation: Do not use DryZone Basement Systems or any All Things Basementy contractor under any circumstances. They charge double the competition (or more) while promising quality but delivering substandard work. If you need crawlspace cleaning, vapor barrier upgrade, or encapsulation work, hire a dedicated cleanup/restoration crew separately (Servpro or equivalent) to get the space truly clean and ready, then have the new vapor barrier installed through Mass Save or a reputable local contractor. You will save yourself an enormous amount of money and avoid massive frustration. This was by far the worst contractor experience I have ever had. Learn from my mistake.
