May 1, 2024 : Day Two of my East Coast trip : This was a planned to stay in a haunted room in a haunted old hotel. While the bestie and I didnt get to experience anything spooky, it was an amazing place. I'm currently updating all my reviews. Thank you for your patience and check back soon!

This is a historical fixture in the town of Concord, serving as a hotel since the late 1800s. The location is perfect for visiting Main Street and the town center after passing by the town green. A two minute walk takes you to the Concord Visitor Center where you can take a tour, rent a bike, or just grab some brochures. Their water refilling station was not working. So many other areas of interest are easily accessible and close (walking, driving, biking), so location wise, this deserves a high rating. The Inn has "old" and "new" rooms, as there have been additions made over its long history. Our room, 310, was in the newer section. The room was clean and most adequate, same for bathroom. The bed was quite comfortable, all was clean and we loved that the windows actually opened to let some fresh air circulate. No microwave or mini fridge. The Inn itself is maze like and confusing. There are no elevators. The staff was ok but did not seem enthusiastic or knowledgeable about much, overwhelmed with the simplest questions. Both check in and check out seemed to take way more time than it should. There is a parking lot behind the inn, but the spaces are extremely tight and hard to find. It's packed. We visited in November so I cannot imagine summertime. Picturing mayhem. Someone dinged my year old car opening their door carelessly. Ugh!!!!! Frustrating. There is on street parking but not for overnight. Restaurant on site. No warm and fuzzy for us, but was the best priced place in the area. Not horrible but not great.

Our tour guide recommended the colonial inn for lunch and it did not disappoint. We arrived at 12:48 on a Friday and they were busy. We decided to eat outside on the porch of this old inn and it was beautiful. My husband got the baked scrod and it was light and delicious. I got the chicken pot pie and it was so good. Flaky crust, chunks of chicken and just a few veggies. It came with a small cup of cranberry cocktail, mashed potatoes and squash. The squash tasted like it had brown sugar and cinnamon in it. Before the meal, they also brought some rolls and some delicious cornbread with very cold delicious butter. Our server was Kim and she was great. Before tip it was $54.57.

Our service was amazing. We loved being in the low light tavern area... Our food was delicious, and we loved learning about the history of the inn.

We had dinner here after attending the reenactments at Minute Man National Historic Park. The ambience at the Colonial Inn was a fitting end to our day. We felt transported to another time. I had the pesto flatbread which was tasty.

One of the most picturesque little Colonial town squares in Massachusetts, you'll find (the front of) Concord Inn to be an upscale version of what Colonial patriots were used to in the 1770's. Sit outside for lunch and soak in the history. There are no reservations for outdoor dining on the porch and walk-ins are often turned away on busy summer and autumn weekends, so book a table inside in advance and ask them to make a note you prefer the porch. Not sure why they don't do outside reservations. You can also eat in the inside restaurant, which is nice but feels a bit strange, like eating in a Victorian grandmother's house. One of our favorite spots is the tavern, which is very rustic ... lots of dark wood and brass. Almost like eating in an old barn with a warm fireplace. Not quite as nice as outside porch seating on a sunny day. Even during colder weather, they have heaters outside which make the outdoor dining comfortable. I am taking off one star for the chaotic reservation system and the often slow service. The food here is good ... you'll find antique New England staples, like Chicken Pot Pie (technically theirs is chicken and vegetables in gravy in a casserole dish with a flaky pastry topping, not a pie), Yankee Pot Roast (tender crock-pot style sliced beef in a beef gravy) and Indian Pudding with vanilla ice cream. Their creamy clam chowder is a-ok for those who don't mind a little bacon in their chowder. There are more modern dishes with avocado, fancy salads, fish and chips and even a reuben sandwich and poutine. Our favorite is the bacon blue cheese burger ... this is a fantastic no-frills cheeseburger but it is done perfectly. If you take one thing away from this review, make it this ... UPGRADE TO THE TRUFFLE FRIES! These are some of the best truffle fries I've had. They are tossed in a coating of truffle flavored cheese. Hard to describe but you'll be amazed! Overall, the restaurant is a staple for us during the summer and especially the fall months. There's no place like the front porch or outer court yard to swat away yellow jackets and take in the movie set-like atmosphere of New England. We have not stayed in the Inn but the old colonial part of the inn doesn't have many rooms. There is an ugly brick annex building, built in the 1970's attached ... this is likely why so many bad reviews appear. I too would be pissed if I was expecting to stay in a 1770's Inn and was put in a small room in an attached building that looks like a college dorm from the 70's.

Great place for outdoor dining when in Concord. Was surprised at how few restaurants there are in the town center. Had a nice lunch or fish and chips (nice piece of cod that was lightly battered). A few good beers on tap helped for a great meal. Ended up returning later for dinner with my wife. Ordered the chicken pot pie, which was very good. Loved the sides of mashed and squash. Not sure if that's their thing here or a New England thing (sides) bc pot pies are sold complete down Philly way. This was like thanksgiving! Super friendly service at both meals.

Each room in the Inn is completely unique in decor and arrangement, and is named after a prominent figure in American history (we were in the "Emily Dickinson suite"), which was fun for history buffs. Each morning the communal dining area offers a fresh breakfast buffet in addition to being served by the friendly staff of the Inn, who take individual orders for hot food such as eggs, pancakes, sausage, etc. This was a great space to talk with the other residents of the inn. These five stars are secretly four and a half, as in all honesty, the older woman who was present for the majority of our stay as the concierge, while accommodating and helpful, wasn't particularly as friendly as one would expect for an intimate Inn. However this certainly didn't take enough away from the quality of the Inn to merit four stars. Would absolutely recommend this hidden gem!

My husband and I travel every Dec to the Army Navy game n always like spending a few days after n taking in the local sights, but mostly the history. Given that this location is LITERALLY where the Revolutionary War began, it would have been nice to have a friendlier staff (unmasked) and been told some history of the city AND the home. Every B&B we've ever been to, (10 in the past few years alone) we've been greeted with questions as to where we are from, and been told about the facility, location, etc. I got more at a Hilton earlier in our trip. Embrace your customers. Being met by a masked worker is NOT welcoming. I felt she thought we were putting her out and toxic to her. This was our home for 2 days and we should not feel like that. The inn is beautiful, the food was good n fresh, the bedding was luxurious n comfy. But your customer service has something to be desired for those choosing a more personal n quaint experience.

It is away from the hustle-and-bustle of Waltham. In my view, it is one of the best options for lodging in Waltham. Prior to moving to Boston, I would visit this hotel yearly on my trips to Waltham for medical needs. The hotel has always been safe, clean, comfy, and cozy. My most recent stay is no different than the past. We checked in after a long drive back from New York State. Luggage carts easily accessible right at the entrance. Plenty of free, COVERED parking, which is a recent addition to this property! They also have expanded electric car capability for those of you with an EV! The night-staff always has and still leaves much to be desired. I feel they could use a touch-up on hospitality, accommodating guests, and basics like cutting workable room keys. Additionally, the on-site snack shop could use restocking a bit more often given the traffic this hotel receives. The lobby and common areas are always clean, fresh, and in great condition. I've noticed on my regular stays here the level of upkeep and maintenance. They truly care about and take pride in their property. It's why I continue to stay here when in Waltham. The rooms are fresh, open, and airy. The beds are plush with fresh, crisp, and clean linens. There are no lingering smells or odors anywhere on the property, which is a welcome relief these days! The rooms feature a mini fridge, coffee maker, and mini fridge. The suites do come with a microwave. Otherwise, there is a microwave in the lobby area for a late-night bite. They also have a gift shop on site, however I've noticed it usually is out of stock due to the traffic here. The breakfast is top-notch. Several main choices. Several proteins. Hand-held fruits. Yogurt. Pastries/Muffins, Waffles. They do the full gamut of the Hampton Breakfast. The staff is attentive to guest flow and demand and I've never had them run out of food. The sales manager is also lovely and always goes above and beyond to accommodate us and our needs. This is one of the many reasons we remain loyal to the brand for 200-300 nights every year. If you're looking for a clean, comfortable accommodation in or around Waltham, you cannot go wrong with the Hampton Inn Waltham! Pro Tip: The on-site mini bar/ Craft Food Hall concept is only open Monday-Wednesday due to demand. Outside of that, delivery services are reliable here and the hotel has given us several phenomenal delivery recommendations during our stay here!
